The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Ok, I've been distracted by real life things, and haven't avidly read all posts for the last couple of months. I have noticed more publishing delay threads than usual, and a couple of posts like @Duleigh's that seems to suggest Lit is folding. Any truth to that, or just crystal ball gazing?

No one has heard anything from Laurel since late August. And the last couple of challenges have gone kinda really screwy from what I've heard. Also, the old stand by of, if your submission gets stuck pm Laurel about it, is no longer working.

The last story I had posted was in the Summer Lovin' contest. Now I have 3 stories stuck in pending and my Halloween story gets submitted today. I see stories are listed on the Halloween page, but how?

Some things get through. Probably most. Total publications are down close to 25% which might mean that a quarter are getting caught. Unlike most of the problems reported months ago, this wave includes many long term very successful writers.

I think the fear is laurel is not well which brings the viability of the site in question. There have been other failures and they have stopped updating their social
Media prese

There were twelve Halloween stories published today, and a total of 160 stories. Since Sunday, when there were over 200 new stories, the number of stories published per day has varied in a small range around 160. That's down quite a bit from last summer.

We can't see from here exactly what's going on, but it doesn't look like a shut down. Aside from that, I'm not going to speculate.

Today I was well enough to cook for the first time in a few weeks. Apple crumble, sticky toffee date pudding, and that authentic Indian dish, back-of-the-fridge&freezer curry. Yes, coriander and parsley are vegetables in sufficient quantity.

I finally got a plot bunny for a Halloween story but there's no way I'll get it done for this year. Maybe I should get back to my April Fool story that I didn't finish for this year or the one before... Or any of the rest of the ever-expanding warren.

I shut the cooler down for the winter. I'm still running the fountain on the patio because our Lesser Goldfinches bathe in it and the neighborhood tomcats drink from it (not at the same time). I should be shutting that down pretty soon. The goldfinches need to move to the river and/or go south.

It looks like I have enough jalapenos to pickle and can five more pints, and enough chiles to let me process another cup or so.

Just finished another story, 15K words. Some discussion of mother-daughter team sex with the MMC... which doesn't actually happen. (Psych!) 😜

A two-parter is in front of it. Having some trouble with an ending that isn't a big reach. Might pare down the run-up instead.

I'd like to see that recipe, please. Bec is trying to up her protein, but shop bought bars have so much sugar...
Russ, I am too lazy to hunt up your recipe thread; I will dig up the recipe (I left it with grandkid in case he wanted to make another batch) and post it tomorrow. Keep in mind you will need some powdered collagen which not everyone keeps on hand (that is where all the protein helps it add up and also why no flour of any sort--look for it in 24 hours or so).

Here you go, ATL.

Collagen is interesting.

Thanks

There's a bag of baby carrots in the 'fridge for plot bunnies or making carrot cake ... your choice. The food processor is back next to the stove if you want to grate them up.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are donuts and danish on the counter for those who want give their plot bunnies a sugar high.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. I just hope the plot bunnies won't nibble on my ankles and distract me from discussing my story with my Muse ...

The one thing I wanted to see in NM was the Balloon Fiesta. I was usually TDY to Turkey or Saudi Arabia (Same shit, different desert) However NASA had a balloon facility at Fort Sumner NM and they'd launch high altitude balloons that were just fascinating to watch. I remember seeing one that looked about half the size of the moon up there, then we saw a 747 at about 35,000 passing under the balloon and it was so small compared to the balloon. Another balloon didn't get much altitude for some reason and it floated over Cannon AFB at about 5,000 feet or lower and it shut down flying until it got out of the way.

Good-ish day today - 4 stories in Pending last night, this morning I find one has a go-live date of tomorrow. @Laurel thinks that 25% of my work is worthwhile. I've had better days, but I'll take it.
