start-->program files-->accessories-->system tools--->character map and flick the pulldown menu to a standard font like ariel or new times roman. There's others, but they won't work in all situations.

Oh, and the character map is in a different place on win2000 and XP, I think. Maybe on ME, too.

I'm not sure if it's the same for all laptops, but I *think* pressing shift and nmlock at the same time should activate the numeric keypad. It'll probably just be easier for you to use the character map and copy and paste from there, though. =(
