Couldn’t find a place to put this so here it is. It’s spooky season again and I decided to make a thread asking for spooky, weird, odd or scary real life stories. Personal involvement would make the story much better but I’d be fine with this happened to a friend of mine stories too. But please don’t tell a friend of my cousins sister… type story.
Here’s mine.
When I was I think 12-14 years old my parents decided to convert our attic to a second living room/play room kind of space. We were not wealthy by any stretch but my dad was able to acquire a used pool table from a local bar that was buying new ones so he got a great deal. The only downside to this was we had to carry it upstairs, in pieces, which were quite heavy. It took a few days to get everything set up but it was worth it, or so we thought. Nothing was special about the pool table or the pool cues but we got the pool balls from my grandparents house. They haven’t had a pool table for a long long time, and it was just sitting in their house and they offered them to us, with the caveat that they could come over and play sometimes. My grandpa was a bit of a shark, he didn’t seem like he’d be a pool player but was crazy good. Obviously I was a young teenager but he kicked my ass in pool more times than I can count. But I digress… one weekend shortly after getting things set up my cousin was staying with me and we were up late watching tv in the living room with the volume turned way down to keep from waking anyone and we heard the sound of someone playing pool upstairs. At first we blew it off, but the next morning we went up to play and despite the fact that I know we had put everything away, there were pool balls scattered on the table, as if someone had played recently. There was also a smell, I know now as cigars, in the air. None of my family smoked, none the less cigars, so it was an odd smell. We cleaned up, thinking not much of it. Over the next few months it kept happening, I’d hear the sound of playing pool upstairs and later would come up to a filled table. Nothing odd aside from that ever happened, just sometimes coming up to a weird smell and scattered pool balls. I asked my grandpa about the origin of the pool balls and he told me he got them from a VFW many many years ago. Nothing scary other than that ever happened. And despite having many friends over who witnessed it, my parents denied it. Accusing us of forgetting to put things away. Randomly one weekend one of my friends accidentally broke on of the balls, doing stupid teenager things, so we replaced the whole set, giving the remainder back to my grandpa. After that it never happened again. I know it’s not scary but it was a odd/weird thing I remember from childhood.
