You know, I'm seriously curious to know how most people feel about this topic. Stroke stories vs love stories. What turns you on? What do you enjoy to read, and what makes you CRINGE when you read it. I'll go first.

I hate stroke peices. Its a personal thing for me, because what i DEEM a stroke peice is something where the characters hardly have any developement, hardly know one another, fuck generically and there is no emotional connection, or even any connection at all. A stroke peice will use simple means of describing the act, almost funny things, where as a love story tries to find artistic ways of describing the act.

So, "He filled me up thick as a phone pole, my butt stretched around his massive cock." vs. "I felt full, the thick girth of his cock stretching me until I thought i might break open with the intensity. I arched my body, wanting more, loving that 'too full' feeling and he let out a growl, one hand splaying over my belly to hold me still while he held onto his control, trying to regain his mind."

Please, realize, that as a writer who writes in the gay catagory more often then not, i'm curious to know what YOU guys thing, in particular, since i cater to you in a large way. (Well, straight females also get a lot of joy out of my writing, but i write it for the gay comunity, not the straight chicks.)

I am also not saying that the other style of writing is less then or not good or in any way intending insult. I just mean, i personally dislike it. I can not get turned on by that type of writing. I literally cringe when i hear the female vagina refured to as cunt, slit, hole, - i dunno why, i just dont like it. I cringe when i read passages like the one above referring to a cock as a phone pole. I dunno why, its personal. To me, that just is the farthest thing from arousing.

That's not to say non concent, hard, rough, intense quick, stories can't be wonderful. They can be, just not that style. I need it to be a more serious style for it to be arousing. Descriptive, flowing, but not 'funny' descriptive.

I dunno, this is my take on it. I hope i make a little sense. i'm curious to know how you guys feel personally. ALL of you, Gay, bi, male, female, tran - whatever, all of you, i'm curious how you feel about stories writen FOR our/this community. What really gets you hot n bothered! Strokes, or Love peices?

I can't vote because for me it's not either/or. Love pieces almost always get me stroking. :)

Something I wrote to Tiger1978 in a recent thread about M-M story lines answers your question.

What I'd really like to see more of in gay lit are stories about male-male bonding and love, aspects that extend far beyond the purely physical although the physical part is good too.

From your [hetero] perspective this might be easier. Write about deep friendships you've had with other males and how you felt emotionally about these friendships. Include a little touching, hugging and some occasional grab-assing and your readers' imaginations can run wild.

For me kissing and cuddling with my partner will always be more erotic than sucking his dick. Does that make me a minority inside a minority? Probably. Do I care? No.

Power...

Great response. You don have to vote for one or the other, the response was helpful and exactly what i was looking for. The fact that you enjoy exactly what i write is fun, if you ever feel like it you should check out my stories!! (Link is in my signature)

Anyhoot, very helpful comment, thank you. Makes alot of sense :)

If you give the choice between quality sensual writing or generic technical sex acts, the answer is obvious. If you meant heartfelt romantic stories vs. erotic couplings without as much background, then each has their times.

For romance, I prefer stories where a stealth transsexual comes out to her partner. It might be a bit formulaic, but I find them to be emotionally overwhelming. I relate so well to the stories, since the exact same thing will probably happen to me. Of course it should end with a bit of sex...

Otherwise, I like stories without pages and pages of background. 2-4 paragraphs max. I also tend to prefer shorter single page stories, unless it is particularly good.

I like both. One of my favorite stories has it all.. the new love between two women and the hot sex mixed in.

There was a thread similar to this on the story feedback thread I believe which asked a similar question. I myself started off writing 'stroke' stories, this was mainly because a quick search of lit. will reveal thousands of stroke stories so you kinda assume theres a reason for this! however I got pretty bored with them, looking back at some of hte stuff I've written makes me cringe today.

this is one that I wrote recently:

Here I tried to 'fuse' the two, where most of the story explains the emotional connection that leads to two guys sharing a moment, the action itself is very brief, you probably wont get a 'stroke' out of it. Have a look if you will, thats my two cence

I generally go to the stories section to stroke, but occasionally a particularly good dramatic story will catch my eye and I'll read it for the usual literary entertainment. And not necessarily a love story, just a good story where stuff happens to people and they say things to other people about the stuff that's happening. And stuff.

Although I usually don't have the time/inclination for longer stories, especially when I'm stroking, but even when I'm not. Two, maybe three pages, but much longer than that and I'd rather just go read a novel.

i'm not sure that the two are mutually exclusive

having also just written a poem (see sig - would welcome everyone to read, vote and post feedback) that combines the two. sexual language is so specific to the individual... i like dirty talk; i also cannot have sexual relationships with people i don't have a strong spiritual/emotional connection (but am highly polyamorous), so for me the two combine. that said, I prefer even erotic stories that dig a little deeper than either "romance" or "stroke" by themselves would normally take us...

P.S., Harrowborg, I just read your story and loved it. I am sorry that I screwed up with my voting... (voted again and posted though to raise the score)

Eeek, Darling, Double voting doesn't help at all. The extra vote will just be taken away. if you want to fix a mistake in voting, send Laurel a PM and ask if she can fix it manually, she may be able to.

So everyone knows, NEVER vote more then once on a story - the IP address is checked and the extra votes are removed by a script. One vote, per person is allowed.

:HUGS:

Loving the insights here. Good to know about the longer stories too. Most of my stories are much longer, yet they still get quite a few reads. I have noticed that while its easier for me to post chapters of my long stories, Chapters get glossed over and not read as much either, which is sorta sad since that particular story "Slave to Love" is one of my better stories.

At any rate, keep the opinions coming, its helpful to hear what people think ad feel.

*bump* No one else feels like adding their two cents? I'd really love to know how people feel and what gets their engines going when reading a story - since i write for thsi community mostly. :)
