From what I have read, the COLA for Social Security will be 1.5% in Jan. This is less than the usual increase, and this is the "bad news."

Medicare also is a big target. They're already going after pensions, too.

If the government ever truly wishes to seriously combat the ever increasing debt problem, it will have to reduce my Social Security or Medicare benefits or both. I understand that.

Until such time as they make that decision, I see no ethical violation in applying for and receiving those benefits for which they have decided I qualify. Are you so rich you will turn yours down? What's the point?
