So I'm watching the gay marriage debate on BBC Parliament.

Why wouldn't it be civil? It is going to pass the commons and nobody is going to jump up and look the arse fighting it. The conservatives will give it a pass rather than appear as Tennessee types.

There are plenty speaking against it. And not all Conservative, either.

I am hearing lots of "god" and "the lord Jesus Christ" which, unlike US politics, is EXTREMELY rare in British political life.

Everything I have seen pretty much says that they'll either not vote or abstain rather than make a real attempt to stop it.

The H of Lords can stop this travesty to English life before it ruins your nation*.

*new and improved ruination

Yeah, it's less likely to pass the other place. But the Lords can't actually kill a bill, they can only amend it.

Mainly, they can delay it for another few months so those who say "god" can go out and stump with their people before it passes.

ya know, if you'd lift the hunting ban and pass gay marriage - I'd pack up and go over for good.

I'm hearing a lot of Northern Ireland accents on the nay side. Colour me surprised. Of course, the bill won't actually apply in NI.

Hobbit will be along later to propose hunting homosexuals with hounds.

Hounds cannot hunt queers by scent, unlike heteros we wash.

Ian Paisley jr just called gays unnatural. I swear, he makes his old man look like a tolerant teddy bear.

I thought all the male ones smelled of perfume and the female ones of Doc Martin boots.

You're one of those ultra right conservative tory sterotypes aren't you? Secret homophobe god boy?

Heh. What amuses me the most is that the vast majority of righties opposing the bill went to public schools where they were undoubtedly taking it up the arse on a regular basis.

I'm perplexed, are you disparaging their first-hand experience on the matter?

I'm disparaging the hypocrisy. BTW, did you know that same sex marriage would lead to the legalisation of polygamy and bestiality?

Someone already posted a picture of two of the hounds 'kissing' me directly on the face, and with tongue. It has already started.

This is just another cog in the great machine of the Homosexual Agenda for Tyranny

I knew letting "you people" have any rights at all was a mistake. Slippery slope.

Wait, weren't you educated in public school too?

Nope. State comprehensive. Homosexuality was a bit sophisticated for us. Foreplay for my lot consisted of saying, "brace yourself, Sharon."

Actually almost everyone's political life.:D

Something I find interesting here is that in Canada, although it has a government almost identical to Englands (even down to a 3 party system and an appointed Senate) things took a completely course.

The Supreme court decided not allowing gay marriage was unconstitutional, then a couple of Provinces decided to pass their own legistlation then the Federal government moved in to make it a national law. Since the Liberal government of the day had a majority I do not imagine there was much of a debate on it.

If we still have to debate equality in parliament now, we clearly have no equality or freedom in this farce they call democracy.

The opinions of others are their own and they're entirely within their rights to voice it but whatever they may think..... a gay couple wishing to get married is their business and only their business.

I am more concerned that outside parliament, on the streets of our capital city, we have people on hunger strike because politicians and police appear to be above the law.
