No one has mentioned the Democratic parties 2000 Vice Presidential candidate Joseph Lieberman. With Gore out of the way, Lieberman is the next in line for the 2004 Democractic nomination for president. He has already announced that he will probably run and honestly, I think he would do a much better job then Gore, Clinton, Dubya, or anyone else at this time. Not to mention he would be the first Jewish president, and that would be interesting to see.

Rice has no natural constituencey, especially in her own party. She doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of being elected. Your top republican contenders for 2008 are Tom Ridge and Jeb Bush. I would expect Ridge to be our next VP just moments after Cheyney's heart explodes deep within a secure location.

Gore's not running cause he's being squeezed out of the money and because he's running 20 points behind Bush in current polls. Plus I think Gore is smart enough to see that whatever democrat loses in 2004 is tainted goods and he's waiting for 2008. So is Hillary.

The Democrats are sitting back now and looking for someone who can do a Barry Goldwater impersonation.

I agree, Rice doesn't have a chance. Ari Fleischer scares me---not because he'll be president---maybe he'll run for the House and quickly move up, he is about 40y.o. and from New York. There are plenty of Republicans that have slimey intentions but he routinely and successfully sells crap that is 25% true as the whole truth. Illinois Democrat up-and-comer Rahm Emanuel will move up the ranks quickly in the House. He was Clinton's senior advisor--so obviously a policy whiz and he can communicate. Unfortunately I agree that arrows are pointing to JEB, I think Ridge is kinda stiff. Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb) can be an candidate that is anti-establishment (he's not in the BUSH or Falwell camp)---he's friends with McCain and usually has a reasonable and responsible approach. He is 54 y.o. and won reelection with 83% in NOV.

When they decide Lott must step down--Frist will win because the GWB factor. McConnell will get the sympathy for Lott vote. Hagel will get McCain, Chafee, Ben Nighthorse, and Snowe to vote for him. You said recently--Powell could win the general election vote with ease, I agree. As much as JazzJim, Ishmael, Miles, and UB laud militaristic extreme rightwing, it's not going to stay. GWB is the last Reaganite. Being a leftist, the Repubs possibly shifting towards that Powell, Hagel and McCain camp both pleases me and frightens me in equal measures.
