Trump 47: A Civilizational Fork in the Road?

Lol. You have it flipped ass about face.

The patrician reactionaries are people like Biden and the Clintons and Pelosi....

The social reformers are the Trump America First team....
You seem to miss the fact that Trump caters to the interests of the wealthy and powerful, first and foremost, and above all, to himself and his own wealth and power. Giving tax breaks to billionaires, raising taxes on the poor, Taking away our health care, taking away our protections for clean air and water, taking away our public lands, taking away our education, and above all, stripping away our freedoms are NOT things that will benefit the working class. These things benefit the wealthy- almost exclusively.

He doesn't care about me, he doesn't care about the American worker, and he doesn't care about you. Full stop. He may tell the gullible what they want to hear. "Make America GREAT Again!" He says. "I'll give tax breaks to the wealthy, and big corporations and it will REBUILD America!" he says- without a rational explanation of exactly HOW it will all work out.

In other words- he has successfully duped people like you and I. (Only difference is, I saw through it.)

Oh, but he also promised to clean up America of all immigrants, minorities, blacks, gays, and what not. Some people, especially people like you- do like this very much. For some, the Rightguide/busybodys of the world, it's probably only thing they like. Us versus "Those Others." My team versus the rainbow colored, dark skinned, Spanish speaking team. Chiefs versus 49ers- only this isn't the fucking Super Bowl. The losers suffer from more than a long off-season.

And I am not saying the Democrats have all the answers either, mind you. Obviously, Biden's term in office left a lot to be desired. I am not some "Leftist." Only a patriot who wants what's best for the country- and what's best is a leader that helps to uplift everyone- with equal justice for all, not one that divides us and screws over most of us.

You ever see that ramp he built? Friggin' impressive. It's still there today.

I've hiked some of Hadrian's Wall too back, and been to a couple of the remains of their old forts - Vindolanda, and another one. It's impressive to see their engineering 2000 years after it was built still there.

Last year, I visited Britain, Italy, Greece, Turkey (Ephesus), Rhodes, Thira (Santorini), Mykonos, and Athens. I think my next trip will have a much shorter itinerary. Racing from one place to the next is a hassle. I'd still like to see the Temple of Jupiter in Baalbek, Lebanon but the region is a bit too hot politically, maybe next year or the year after.

Quite something isn't it. I really enjoy reading about the Romans. My husband has book after book on the Roman military and I've been working my way thru his. Mine are all on Roman history and politics, and a big collection of fiction set in the Roman Empire. A lot of the fiction authors know so many little details.

I'm partway through reading Liddell Hart's Scipio Africanus book about kicking Carthaginian ass in the Second Punic War. The man is up there with Alexander, like the Dolphin's '72 season. He made up for Cannae with what he and his boys did to Hannibal at Zama. It kind of takes the fight out of your opponent when you kill every last one of the motherfuckers.

Note: the above is a brief description of a historical event and is not a threat of any kind, so you Tattle Tale Patrol pussies carry your sorry asses back to your tattle tale sorry ass thread and plot your next bit of hate inspired naughtiness. May Laurel ban the lot of you for being the annoying cunts you are.

Scipio Africanus was, well, classic Roman! We have a book on him somewhere.

Now did you watch HBO's Rome series - such a shame it was dropped after 2 seasons. I loved all the actors - Caesar, Mark Anthony, Pompey, Octavian - and the scene with Herod!!!!

The US will subsidize Musk because he's friends with the big guy
The US is no longer subsidizing Musk.
Obama did that as he claimed to be bailing out the auto industry while pouring cash into green companies. Solindra failed. Musk used the cash wisely and propped his stock up first.

Funny you should ask, as I thought of asking you the same thing. Loved it from start to finish. Big Titus Pullo fan. I liked how he was so oafish and yet slick as a greased eel with Octavian. I told a g/f I binged the series with - first time for her and probably my 5th rewatch - about Vorenus and Pullo, "watch these guys, they kill everything they see." She said, "wow, you're right."

And we learned that Titus Pullo brought down the republic.

Lol.....the US is still subsidizing Musk and his companies. Between space x and starlink and Tesla.......musk aligns his companies to take advantage of subsidies....it's a big reason why he's such a rich man

The government is purchasing services. Much different than Obama coercing congress to fund the electric car companies bottom line on the way to financial ruin. No dollars should have gone to Solindra either. Those grifters are still undermining the US financial system. Musk is a big part of the economy. As for X, I wish I had more stock. TSLA is a roller coaster but its up over 200% from where I started. Maybe instead of complaining find a way to benefit.

I only saw one episode -- where Juius Caesar tells a priest he knows nothing of religious matters.

This at a time when Caesar had been Pontifex Maximus (chief priest of Rome's state religion) for 10 or 20 years!

Lol....Musk aligned his company buys so that he maximized the subsidies. He didn't start them.

One of my favorite ancient commanders. You might be interested in Polybius's Histories. It has been translated into English and is available online and elsewhere. There is the Evelyn S. Shuckburgh Translation (1889) a classic English translation that remains widely used and respected. It's also available for free in the public domain on platforms like Project Gutenberg and Perseus Digital Library.

The ramp is impressive when you realize they built it with hand tools.:)

I reckon I might be interested. Thank you.

Odd that these right wing ancient history, engineering, architectural, and archaeology buffs are only lauding "certain" civilizations and their accomplishments… (It isn’t odd at all, actually…)

Meanwhile, Machu Pichu, a truly incredible achievement that was built at 8,000 ft., on a rocky ridge, in an incredibly active earthquake zone, sans metal tools or even knowledge of the wheel, designed with integrated terraced agriculture, and ingenious drainage &i irrigation solutions, goes unmentioned…

Weird…(It isn’t weird at all, actually…)

But the subject wasn't the Inca's, altho Machu Pichu is amazing. Tiahuanaco in western Bolivia, near Lake Titicaca, is., IMHO, even more so. 4 square kilometers of ruins with some amazing stonework and dating back to 2-300BC. I've visited one Inca Fortress and site, at San Pedro De Atacama in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, when my dad was working in Buenos Aires and we went there for a long weekend. It's nothing impressive, but it was the southernmost reach of the old Inca Empire and all that's left are some old stone ruins, nowhere near as impressive as Machu Pichu. The old Inca Empire is quite something, nothing like the Aztecs, as is the story of it's conquest by Pizzaro and his conquistadors.

The 2024 election was not any civilizational fork in the road. Trump won because the voters were sick of inflation and mis-blamed Biden for it, not because they found Trump's politics or world-view appealing.

The timeline "Five Decades of Fear and Loathing" brought me right here.
