Trump and Kegsbreath to allow Qatar to establish a military air force base in the state of Idaho

Once again, the political power in charge screws up their own news announcements. It took Laura Loomer to call them out and Keg and DJT backed down. Right-wingers on Lit pounced on it blaming Democrats for accurately quoting Republican team members in power for their initial mistake.
To be honest, the original announcement might very well have been hegseth's/trump's/qataris desire but they knew they might receive blowback... probably waited to see just how much resistance there was to the idea (how it might endanger trump votes) before amending the details. trump does it all the time: makes announcements then 'clarifies' when he realises he cannot push as far as he wanted.
Or we could cancel the project and save a few billion bucks. Let Qatar train on their own soil and build an American barrack for our guys to go over and train them there. Why do that on our soil for a country that is known for terrorism?
I think there's a reason trump wants that base here, now, and at the location intended: it is very close to the Canadian border and you can be sure Canadians have taken note of that. They. Are. Pissed.

p.s 300-350 miles from the border isn't that far in a fighter jet.
AI Overview:
Based on the location of Qatar's new facility at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, an F-15QA could cross into Canada in a matter of minutes
. The training facility is located in the U.S. and is far closer to Canada than Qatar's home air base.

Me thinks you give the two of them more credit for intelligence and foresight than due... ;)(y)

ha :) it's more a case of 'trump wants this, hegseth goes "great idea, sir!!!" and the advisors who are more savvy are all like "we may get some resistance but we have a plan for that" *as they nod their 2025 heads*

okay, I need to concede I was wrong about the timing of the location, though Canadians are still pissed given it's under trump's administration (they have every reason not to trust him given some of his statements about taking over Canada) and didn't seem to have been too worried under Biden.

Work got started on an environmental assessment to determine the possible impact on the area surrounding the Mountain Home Air Force Base began around 2020, and the assessment was completed in 2022.

It aims to “provide mission-ready Gunfighters to conduct military operations anytime, anywhere,” according to its website.

I would say to that ^.

Even as DonOld and Whiskey Pete Kegsbreath have "clarified" the nature of the physical operation at the base (the parameters of the facility itself), there has been zero clarification on what laws would be followed inside the facility;

Is that facility considered an embassy of Qatar???

Will there be some measure of diplomatic immunity for Qatari personnel???

🤔

I found this response from a search assist:

Search Assist

The training facility for pilots in the U.S. does not automatically have diplomatic immunity; such privileges depend on specific agreements between the countries involved and the nature of the facility's operations. Generally, military training facilities operate under U.S. jurisdiction and regulations, not as foreign diplomatic missions.

🤔

The segment of that ^ answer which caught my attention and caused some minor alarm was: “such privileges depend on agreements between the countries involved”…

🤔

What “agreements” are DonOld and the Qataris coming to on “privileges”???

🤔

The fine print is definitely worth a read, imho…

😑

We. Told. Them. So.
