Sci-Fi/Fantasy Chain Story Idea

I'm going to need to get into a "watcher" conference soon, probably "off the air" in PMs. I think my next chapter lends itself to starting with a bit o' that, and I want to toss the ideas at everyone before I start writing it.
 
Well, I'm up for a PM/IM discussion or simply talking about it here...I too was thinking about doing a watcher Chapter...But I'll see what's been up...Don't want too many in a row...

Mine won't center on it, it's just a starter for the chapter to hint in that direction. It will shift to center on the Master-Genie relationship after the initial hints.

I'm working up a general outline now.
 
Mine is more focussed on Laresa and how she relates to her Master/Mistress.
I've hinted at another genie being around, but she didn't see him/her.
Just left her wondering. Could be a starter for somebody else.

I've got a response from Danielle and deathlynx on my "watchers" question, and responded to some thoughts deathlynx had on my idea. I'm putting together a text compilation of any such back and forth that I'll upload to my webspace and update as we work through it, so everyone can have a link to the main part of the discussion without having to paste chunks of IMs.

I'll get that uploaded and send links once everyone has put in their initial thoughts.

Just thought I'd drop a headsup, since I'm close to getting my next chapter rolling ( I'll confirm as soon as I have a good chunk of it done, but it is pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point )

Ch. 12 - Black Tulip: Dark Master
Ch. 13 - deathlynx: ?
Ch. 14 - Tseranc: ?
Ch. 15 - RedHairedandFriendly: ?
Ch. 16 - Darkinciad: Dark Master

BT and I are both going to have really dark Masters that Laresa does *not* like. We've kept a fairly good mix ( although leaning toward kind masters somewhat ) thusfar, so we probably want to keep a mix going.

So if anybody between us is still searching for their storyline, might want to lean toward a nice/neutral Master to keep the mix running.

Everyone seems to like my idea on the Watchers thusfar, so I'm going to forge ahead with that. I can always tweak it a little later on if necessary.
 
Thanks Dark for the post with the chapters. :) :kiss: I appreciate it. I'll do mine of course. :) I'll update the larger one too, so it is more upfront on the thread. Surgery took a lot out of me, so I appreciate everyone staying on top of their chapters while I was gone. :rose: :kiss:
 
I'm probably going to go more of a good master...I've been developing a good theory of a story as we discuss the "watchers"...

My next story after that, I'm really hoping to follow a good master who doesn't lose the ring in story...but we'll see...
 
If you know somebody who hasn't read my latest chapter yet, send them to it. It's only 5 votes short of that magical 50 with a 4.98 score, and I would assume that after all the contest sweeps, most of those votes should stick *laugh*

Maybe a chain story taking a monthly contest will wake people up to the fact that the category is there :D

Read and PCed...I should get around to reading both 11 and 12 later today...Plenty of time today and not much to do...I'll probably start writing my chapter tonight at work...Hope I can find my muse again by then or it'll be a miserable night...

The title: Laresa's World Ch. 01: XXXXXX (Your title choice)
If you wish to submit early let me know and I can change the schedule to reflect that. With the stories jumping back and forth through time, if you submit early isn't a big issue, just please let me know if you do, or if you can't reach the schedule date.


Her Limits and some things she can do:

  • She's pretty much a slave with powers of a Genie and once the person loses the ring, they lose her.
  • We'll travel through time and space.
  • CAN'T alter major historical events.
  • She can't make anyone fall in love.
  • Can't bring back the dead, but if there is one breath left in the body, she can heal them.
  • A Genie only knows as much as they have seen, been taught, or are allowed through the powers of the rules/laws written long ago.


How does one lose her:

  • Lose the ring, have it stolen, and lie to her, ask for a wish she can't do. (the ones where she'd break the rules)
  • Lieing to her makes the ring disappear, into time or across space, up to the writer.
  • So lieing to her means the ring disappears, where it goes in time or space is up to you the writer.
  • Rules can not be revealed unless the Master/Mistress asks about them, or if the Genie likes a Master/Mistress, they can reveal them

Summening her:

  • Twisting the ring counter-clockwise by accident, and twisting it while whispering her name on purpose.
  • Laresa must recouperate inside the ring sometimes, when she becomes exhausted.
  • She is invisible to all, unless her Master/Mistress deems her visible. So far this has been implied in some stories.


Death/Freedom of a Genie & other oddities:

(this is a new category - - so it is open to discussion.)

  • A Genie doesn't know how they are ultimately set free.
  • A Master/Mistress can not "wish" their genie free.
  • Death of a genie - the destruction of the home (ring, bottle, medallion, bracelet. . .whatever they live in)
  • No more than two genies per Master/Mistress
  • Wishes that involve the actual desire of a Genie transcend from Master/Mistress throughout the genie's life.
  • Wishes made by Masters/Mistresses transcend through time also. (Ones that effect the Master/Mistress directly as well as the world itself.
  • Characters in the stories can not wish yourself to be a Genie - So there are no new Genies at this time.
  • The Genies all came from Laresa's People and were created by Shaman's (obviously the most skilled of the people) - Through sacrifices that were outlined in Tseranc's chapter 3.

Anything else we can think of we can post here and I'll add.

Red, good to see you back and posting. I'll do another chapter as soon as the Nano is over. I doubt I'll submit anything to the holiday contest this year. I'm tired of the trolls seeing my name on a contest entry and shooting it down so I'm staying away from them for a while. That little blue W doesn't mean that much to me considering that the way you have to get it sucks.

Three votes away now, and still at 4.98. Sooo close *laugh*

My next chapter is underway, my editor is back from surgery and doing fine (hope you get back to 100% soon too Red :rose: )

I have an idea for the Winter Holiday, but it's real world, and the real world scares me :p

I'll post and let everyone know as soon as my next Laresa is ready to roll, in case anyone needs to trade dates to keep the schedule moving along.

May not be too long of a wait, even with the Halloween contest going on, my new ones have been going up in 6 days at the most.

If my website ever comes back online ( grrrr... ) I've finished a new page for linking all Laresa stories online anywhere, which people can be pointed to for one stop Laresa shopping. It will make it easy for people to start at the beginning of the chain and read them all - or for us to review past stories if we've forgotten a detail we know is in there.

I'll keep it updated just like the old links on the local website copies of my stories as new stories post in the chain. It's much nicer than the jumble of links on my local website copies I had been using.
 
Lol...I've been bookmarking each in a separate folder as they come out...that way it's easy to go back and check...or remember to go through and read and comment? :eek:
 
51 votes on Ch. 10 as of about a quarter till midnight last night. Now, if at least 50 of them just survive sweeps *crosses fingers*
