How do fantasy / sci-fi stories go on Literotica?

Hi everyone,

I originally got into writing when I wrote my own fantasy story. That was a long time ago and I've actually written 5 fantasy stories and 1 sci-fi story.

To be honest the rapid feedback from posting on literotica I think has greatly improved my writing, not just fir sex scenes!

Anyway, I have been toying with the idea of writing a fantasy or a sci-fi series for Literotica.

I can't say I have read many on here so I wanted to see firstly if there are any series you'd suggest I have a read of.

Also, if you have any tips, I think I've got a good enough grasp to write not too bad stories but I know different categories are people looking for different things. For example, gay male I find as long as you write a hot sex scene you're good. Incest I find you also need a emotional connection.

Do people like long stories with multiple parts, I am partial to reading epic fantasy books so would like to do a similar idea with a lot of sex involved.

So for you literotica fantasy / sci-fi writers, I'm open to any advise or tips you may have.

Hope you're all well šŸ˜

I haven't written much sci fi/fantasy but I've read enough, including here at Literotica to say yes, IMO many readers are receptive to long, chaptered stories. Sci Fi/Fantasy lends itself well to that. It's also probably one of the most flexible categories. Readers aren't just there for the sex; they want the world-building/fantasy/sci fi elements too. That gives the author a wide creative range. Broadly speaking, I see the category as fitting into two basic types of stories: one is the the type of story where the primary story arc is about the sci fi or fantasy and the sex, even if frequent, is the secondary element, and the other is one where the sex is central. My tentacle sex story, for instance, is an example where the sex is the central element of the story, but I could have written it very differently.

What Simon says.

Also, it's a small category in terms of readership. Most of my sci-fi/fantasy stories have fewer than 3.5k views except one where I piggybacked on a contest. You'll get a higher view-to-vote ratio, though, but not many comments in my experience.

But in terms of acceptance it's very broad. I have a dark sword & sorcery series, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi story, and a couple of stand-alones that are mostly just dark and weird. They've all done pretty well.

Edit: and a silly story where the plot is just an excuse for the main character to have non-stop sex.

I tend to write Loving Wives stories for swingers/sharing. But three years ago, I wrote a Fantasy/Scifi story for the "Amorous Goods" author's challenge in October. My LW stories tend to get about 10K views, but rate around 3.4 average.

The Scifi story was "Amorous Goods: The Anklet Pair" (Pair of magic hot wife anklets create two sex-crazed wives), and it garnered 18.6k views and is my only Red-H story at 4.55. I published two sequels to the story in the Amorous Goods challenge, expanding on the scifi theme, but they only received 4.14 and 3.67 average ratings with far fewer views (3.6k and 6.4k). So, if you're publishing a series, make it clear from the start (that first was a standalone story), and publish faster. (Also, my third story was kludged together as an attempt at a tentacle monster story.)

I think Simon has hit the nail on the head.

I've done well in that category and some of my favourites are in there, some almost novel-length.

Go for it!

The readership mostly appreciates long, chaptered stories with interesting plot and characters. Sex is often secondary to the core readership, although the sexual themes matter a lot in attracting readers from other categories. If you write a good story and make a good mix of popular sexual themes, views can go unusually high for this otherwise modest category.

Readers here LOVE SF and fantasy. LOVE it. I've had excellent receptions from all my stories in both genres. Same goes for supernatural (Halloween-y type stuff) and historical material set in the middle ages, even without magic and such: readers here dig it if it's well-written, with enjoyable characters.

On a somewhat related note, how do you draw boundaries between SF&F, Non-Human, and Erotic Horror (or even T&CG when it comes to futa stories)?

The "random" selection of stories in each category isn't much of a hint, maybe for EH always featuring "scary" or disturbing elements. But then again, I've seen several quite disturbing stories in SF&F, too, so it doesn't seem clearcut to me in the slightest.

First two chapters in my sci-fi saga did pretty well. chapter three is fighting me hand and tooth, though...

I've had good experiences with readers in this category. It might not be as well traveled as some categories but it's far from dead. My 2 month old sci-fi has 24k views. Like any story, an eye catching title and an enticing description is recommended.

That's a question I often find myself facing, as much of my material here could plausibly fit in more than one of those (but I've mostly stuck to the mind control category since its presence is kind of 'higher level', like a smidge of incest taking a story out of other plausible categories).
For me, I tend to want to put a story in NH if the eroticism is intended to derive from the taboo of lacking humanity, whether that's sex with an alien or robot, or from transforming/being transformed into some other creature, like a werewolf. If there's significant trauma or angst as a consequence, I'd lean toward EH (since NC/R seems mostly to veer toward plausible, real-world stuff). If the non-human elements are just there as part of the background, and half-elves or half-Klingons or what-have-you are considered normal for the world in question, definitely SF/F.

I humbly call your attention to my completed series Lost Colony.

I'll second what other authors here have said, which is that while readership won't necessarily be high, readers will be accepting of longer stories with character development, world building, and plots are spiced-up with sex rather than being sex driven.
