Reliance on Russia's oil and gas will be replaced by a reliance on American gas

Most of the oil that is planned on being released from the Strategic reserve will be exported.

It depends on where it will be refined. My guess is most of it will be sent to gulf refineries here. The shale crude is typically what's sent overseas for refining

The UK, and most of Europe, are trying to reduce dependence on oil and gas. In the UK's case apart from more renewables - wind and sun, they intend to build more nuclear plants.

They have an electrical link to France but they cannot rely on it. At times of peak demand in France power was sent there; in peak demand in the UK, power came from France, but President Macron has announced he could cut the UK off over the dispute on fishing rights, so another link which was to be built has been postponed or cancelled.

I think that this is mainly about US exporting LNG. Is that part of the Strategic Reserve being released?

No it won't. Those refineries are configured to refine heavy crude. The SPR is medium crude and would require them to reconfigure their refineries so they buy that at a discount if that's all they can get. It's value is maximized if exported. It will still have the effect of reducing price pressure somewhat.

Yah, I wasn't sure what type of crude SPR was. My point was that where it gets refined is dependant on that.

Is this because of Brexit?

No. It is mainly because of the UK's commitment to reducing carbon emissions. The arrangement with France was in the interest of both countries but President Macron is facing an election soon and bashing the UK is popular.

For UK Politicians, bashing the French is also a favourite sport. We're still regretting the Entente Cordiale before WW1.

whaaaaat?

I don't quite understand the industry and concepts that you guys are referring to
but trying to save the Planet from global warming through building more nuclear plants?

Wasn't there a debate about 10 years ago, before the Global warming stuff started. that nuclear plants (even the decomissioned ones) are dangerous and they were trying to reduce them??
Why did they go full 180?

The UK has always been committed to nuclear as a replacement for coal and gas. The debate by environmentalists was dismissed because without nuclear renewables can never meet the demand nor react fast enough to a surge in demand.

You guys still haven't gotten over the 100 Years War, have you?

Neither have the French. They still hate us for Trafalgar and Waterloo, forgetting their part in the American War of Independence.
