Okay, so someone asked me this the other day and I was stumped for an answer.

Why do we (Canadians) celebrate Thanksgiving in October, while the U.S. celebrates it in November?

Anyone?

By November it's so fucking cold in Canada that no one wants to be thankful.

Just a guess...

LOL! Okay, while that may be true, I doubt it's the real reason, but it makes sense :)

My guess would be that the since the holiday celebrates a fruitful harvest, and it is colder in Canada than in the states, that the harvest occurred up there one month earlier due to the climate.

Btw - good one PH!

Because we like to be different.

Or maybe because Canadians finally figured out that that much turkey that close together is way to much, so we decided to move it back a month.

See the Calling all Canadians thread for the answer to this. But Zip basically pegged it.

Okay, my mother says in Britain they called it "Harvest Festival" or something like that, not Thansgiving, so Zipman may be on the right track.

Crap crap crap. This means I have to admit my mother was right?

Dammit!

Thanks Freya, I shall check it out.

That's true, she doesn't come here, so I'm safe :)

I LOVE YOUR AV!!!!!!!

Before anyone thinks I am all smart like, I found this on a website ;)

In 1879, Parliament declared November 6th a day of Thanksgiving and a national holiday. Over the years many dates were used for Thanksgiving, the most popular was the 3rd Monday in October. After World War I, both Armistice Day and Thanksgiving were celebrated on the Monday of the week in which November 11th occurred. Ten years later, in 1931, the two days became separate holidays and Armistice Day was renamed Remembrance Day.

Finally, on January 31st, 1957, Parliament proclaimed...

"A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed ... to be observed on the 2nd Monday in October.

I do believe ours were in .jpg form. How did you go about saving it?

Lol..I tried to use the link as is.

Should I save to my c:drive?

I'm not exactly bright when it comes to this stuff, especially when the properties aren't the properties, if you get my drift!

Saving it to your c: drive would probably be one of the easier ways to do it.

WOOHOO!

:) he he he..I didn't see the option of browsing your pc for uploading av's :)

Thanks much, both of you!
