When it comes to dating and looking for a potential mate, do you tend to date a woman who is close to your age ... or do you tend to go for younger women ?

If you date younger women , is there a reason you would rather date a woman younger then yourself as oppossed to a woman your own age or close to your age ?

Thanks, in advance.

:)

I would probably look to someone close to my age. I do like a mature woman.

I'm not opposed to someone younger if the opportunity should arise...but I wouldn't go too far beneath the limit. I would avoid someone in their twenties...it would seem too odd.

I might add that you cannot help who you fall in love with...and that may change everything. Still, if someone was too I would feel as if I was holding them back.

I'd go as young as possible while still keeping some kind of standard for maturity, perceptiveness and a good head, none of which are really age based. I like the power imbalance, it's very sexual to me. I also like being the teacher.

I date within a range of ages...I am 43 and tend to look for women between 35 and 48...though it is not a hard and fast rule. What IS hard and fast is that the woman be mature, regardless of age. Of course, that all supposes that I date with any regularity...lol..

So does this mean you would never date an older women?

You can also be a teacher to an older woman , don't you think ?!

What you see as power, looks like fear to me...

Rambrat,

I know one can not help themselves when it comes to falling in love.

But there are individuals out there who have have this preconceived notion of that what they are looking for in a woman or a man .. and they set their eyes for that specific individual ....like age.

Do I make any sense ?! :)

I prefer people my own age for frame of reference conversational purposes, but sometimes I find that people my own age have less energy & are preoccupied by their loss of health.

I did fall in love with someone 15 years younger once, but they carded us both at bars, so it wasn't really an age problem.

Actually, the best relationship I've had would be the one with the slightly older woman.:)

My 2cents worth is know which qualities are most important, look for them, & don't pre-judge or exclude on other grounds. You might be pleasantly surprised, or even learn something.

Yes...you do make sense.

I'm not always a good judge of age...but their may be a certain look and personality trait that appeals to me. Age has never been a factor for me except that i would not approach someone of a certain age based on my preconceived notion that they wouldn't be interested.

I too have had this idea image of a woman in my head...but in the end, the one who stole my heart defied that description.

It comes down to two compatible hearts.

There should be more men like you out in this vast universe.

It's too bad that she turned out to be a con artist and a married liar, isn't it? I still feel bad for the pain you went through with someone that nasty. Makes you wonder what character flaw caused such a personality problem, or if there really is such a thing as a born liar.

Sometimes I think we are much better off sticking with our heads and ignoring our hearts.

To me age is of no difference if you both match emotionally, intellectually, and maturity. I have dated women of all background levels, ages, and religions. However, what seems to be the biggest factor is emotional intelligence or eq.

The greater the age gap the greater the societial margin you must overcome like that of music, political events, and yes even values.

Also given that I have never married, I often find I have more in common with women whom have not been previously married or have children. Which often is true for women of whom are younger. Through the tedium of life some of us learn lessons which chart our paths. Sometimes these lessons bring about greater understanding in a world with increasingly fewer choices, and greater challenges. Although I never look at age in an equation when such differences apply there are also self imposed limits of respectable nature.

After the age of 25 I have found nothing of significance which would make age an issue when searching for a mate. If all other factors are equal.

I tend to date a woman who is close to my own age. Somewhere down around 2/3 of my age is the territory where there's not generally enough in common to sustain a relationship for long in all probability.

Depends.....

I get attracted to females based on their character, and sometimes the age gets in the way. My last gf had the character I find attractive, we went out for awhile, and soon the age thing came up. It didn't bother me she was 18years younger than I, but seemed to bother her. Well, after living together for 5 years, she's on her own, and I'm going my direction. It was fun while it lasted.
I find that females more my age have a hardness in character. A sort of cynical view on things of the world, and hard to excite about a sunset, and things that turn me on, the little everyday miracles around us. They are more concerned with P.C.-ness, and telling everyone how they should live.

Aphrodisiac,

I'm not male but generally the men I date are 35+, I really had hard time going out with someone who was 32 (four years my junior), though it really didn't matter after we got to know one another. Sexually speaking he had so much energy, it was pretty wonderful.

Most of the men I encounter don't look for younger women. They seem to prefer one who is confident and sexy...comfortable in her own skin and it shows. They want someone who's stable and more reality based, maybe not so focused on the dreams of one's youth. Naivety can be refreshing, but intelligence and common sense are more sought after.

DAmazon,

I find myself dating older men and its not like I make sure they are older then myself when I meet them .. it just happens.

I do agree that age is simply a number and we should see a person as a whole rather then singaling out certain things.

But there have been times when I will not go out with a man because of his age. Somehow the idea of going out with a 20yr old man does not appeal to me. I don't think we would have much in common...

I have heard this said before ... also most men see women their age or older as to demanding and since some have lived through some hard challenges in their lives when it comes to relationships, some women tend to be cynical like you said...

I am sure not all women are that way though ' ...

I look at ads where women range in age from 45 to 65.........I'm 56.

As long as I can remember, I've been attracted to mature women in this general age group and, now that I'm also in that age group, it makes no difference.

About younger women? This "trophy-bride" syndrome is just nonsense to me.......sign of an immature male who thinks she'll keep others from noticing his age............25 f + 50 m = 40 f in her prime sexually and an old fart to either cheat on or be frustrated by, most likely.......nutty deal.

I"m close enough to 35 to field this.

I don't have any notions which involve age in the woman for whom I look. I look for any number of other qualities that just aren't age-determined and at my point in life, the number just doesn't much matter to me.

The only time I've thought that age made any difference is in talking about things I remember loving as a kid about which some younger women have no frame of reference because they were either too young or not born yet.

I'm only 31 but I'm going to answer anyway...

...In the past year I have been involved with women that range from 21 to 39. Age is not an issue for me. Compatability is, although the compatability with the 21 year old was stretching it. Like Rambrat said, you cannot help who you fall in love with...it just happens. If I had choices....if only I had choices...*sigh*

Sort of like trying to explain rummy to someone and they have no earthly idea what you are talking about....

Yes, I know what you mean......:)

Only the truly deprived have never played rummy! ;)

Well, I meant more like things like the music I grew up with and the old cartoons - stuff that made childhood magical. :)
