I attended a seminar this am on organ donation. The numbers startled me. It seems in texas alone, there are over 12,000 people on the donor list and they only average 14 donations a year. So the question is, are you one, or would you consider it, or NO.
BTW I am one

I would, I want...but I don't think I'm allowed.

I should have added a choice "I want to but not eligable" BTW, Perky, I have an organ I would love to donate to you while still alive

Yes, I am registered as a donor. We can indicate our preference on our driver license. I made sure my family knew also.

I understand that people of the Jewish faith are forbidden to donate but what about the others who chose not to, what are your reasons? I am not asking to pass judgement, just curious. Most of the people I know are registered so I don't have access to another point of view.

we had the same poll 2 or 3 weeks ago, but nevermind... i cant done organs back home because i have lived in the UK for too long (BSE risk), but in the UK I'm a registered organ donor. :)

Halo :rose:

Yes. I'm a donor. I won't need it, they can have whatever can be used.

I've read on this board before that a lot of people are organ donors. But there are very few donations a year, as you said Vinny. I wonder how many times families over-rule the wishes of the donor individual (which they can do, at least where I live!)?

Not a liver. Try again.
Well we have to understand that causes of death eliminate people. Brian death is good for organs and cardiac death for tissues. However, there are some families unwiklling to keep their loved ones on a respirator until they do the procedures. Age is also another factor.

yes, I have my donor reg card all filled out and everything.

Years ago, when my grandfather passed away, the doctors asked my grandmother if she would be willing to donate his organs. She was shocked because he hadn't taken care of his body, most of his organs were weakened or non-functioning when he passed. As she said this, the doctor looked at her and said, "What about his eyes?" We'd never thought of that, and yes, she agreed. That story always gets me...

organ...hmmmm.... I'm sure you'll have to show me.

I am one...

hey, what can I say, I am an exhibitionist! I hope it's some pretty young thing getting the parts when I am through with them.

I'm a registered donor. Don't know what kind of condition my organs will be in when I croak, but if someone wants them, they're welcome to 'em.

Halo :rose:

What are the rules in the US for organ donors who've spent a few years abroad since the 1980s? I know they were debating eliminating us as blood donors (and in fact may have), but I hadn't considered what that might mean as far as organ donation goes.

Yes...

Anything that's left over will be burned and scattered in the ocean.
I won't be needing it.....

Any organ they want.

My goal is to have most of them not usuable from fine old age. They can even cut me up and use me for research if they want.

I am one

I have a daughter that has a fatal Genetic disorder and will probably need a double lung transplant someday. So my motivation is personal.

I am. And my family knows.

Ever see "Jesus of Montreal?" Good flick.

I am an organ donor & have my family and friends very aware of that fact. I am a firm believer in the organ donor program & encourage all my friends to sign their donor card. If I can help someone live a longer life when I pass on, I will be able to rest.

Yup I'm an organ doner. What use do I have with them when I'm dead? If it can save someone else's life, I'll do it in a heart beat. That's why I signed the back of my drivers Liecense.

While I've donated gallons of blood, & put myself on the marrow registry as well, there is a distinct difference between this & a donation that requires the death of the donor. I want to see deaths from all causes reduced& prevented, including drive by shootings, domestic violence, & drunk driving.

I have problems with the way things are done ,or have been with regard to transplants. They need to change the way the resource is managed. I don't think more donors will solve those problems. No income, no life span, no organ supply is ever enough,....unless it's used wisely.
