I have a question for the masses! What would you do?
Today, from my home-office window I observed an older teen (17, 18, 19) urinating on the neighbors' house, not the foundation, but right down the wall! Front/side yard, 15 feet from my office window. My husband went out onto our front step and told the kid to "make this the last time this happens" the kid replied "shut up m*fucker (I hate that phrase!) before I come slap you around", and the language got worse from there. I heard the exchange from the kitchen. After the second offer of a beating, my husband told me to call the police and ask for a cruiser. By the time the police arrived the kids (2 in a 2002 Avalanche(sp)) were long gone. The officers took the information, and warned us not to confront them if they returned, to simply call for a cruiser. We're also to watch for vandalism and keep the doors locked.
Trying to be a "good guy" my spouse went to the home of the 20somthing kid that the other two were visiting. He wanted to tell the neighbor kid what happened and explain why the police were involved. Instead of the "kid" the parent came to the door. He put all the blame for the incident on us, complained that we're asking too much to expect a quiet neighborhood, and why couldn't we remember what it's like to be young? We should just "leave the kids alone".
Did I miss something? We became the bad guys when I didn't want to watch the kid pee on someones siding? Or when we'd prefer that our wall hangings not vibrate from the car stereos? We should be glad that they leave trash in our yard?
Was I wrong to be upset about this? What would you have done? Opinions please...I know you have them!
BTW we live in a nice neighborhood, good schools, white collar professional types. Just as a point of reference.
