On your first meeting with someone you find out ...

I also discriminate, with great prejudice, against serial killers, rapists, child abusers, bullies, people that drive slow in the fast lane, and baltimore ravens fans.

All y’all are free to hang out with people that have made those choices. I’ll pass.

Lol. Placing police officers in that group of people… oh Katie. You try so hard. 🌹

Holy shit!
We got a lot of "I would never..." going on in here.
WTF tho?!

I would date anyone with whom there was a mutual attraction.
Why not?

I've joked that I would make a terrible doctor's wife because I like my menfolk home for dinner, but that wouldn't preclude me from dating a doc. I'd have to adapt.

I'm stunned at how many people are willing to rule out large swaths of the human race as 'unmarrigable' based on things I view as minutiae. If I wanted someone with the same political views as me, same outlook on life, the proper job, the right income... I may as well date myself!

I would date a butcher, a baker, AND a candlestick maker, if they made me happy, and were decent human beings contributing positively to society.

Statistics?
Ladies.

My ex is immaculate looking on paper.
He makes a pretty penny too in a proper "professional" job.
And he's attractive.
Tall, dark, handsome Italian man.
No criminal record to speak of.
Good marks at work.
Articulate.
Intelligent.
Witty.
He voted for Biden too.

He's also an abusive, highly functioning alcoholic that stole and wore my panties and after a good night of edging he'd pass out and I would awake to very slippery doorknobs and lots of bottles, pills, and powders.
He barred the door so I couldn't leave the house.
He pulled my baby from my arms and held her hostage so I couldn't leave the house.
He hid money and drugs and women everywhere.
He had a PO Box, secret credit cards, secret bank accounts, secret investments.

^Im not even saying this to be punchy. Or argumentative.

I'm saying it as a PSA: Not everyone who looks good on paper is actually good!

And, not everyone who looks bad on paper is bad.

Yes, yes I would date a cop.
Emphatic yes.
He'd, at minimum, keep me and my kids safe from my fucking white collar ex!

100% deal breaker

Same for military men and other law enforcement careers such as DHS officers especially CBP, BP or ICE

There is a certain personality that is attracted to those jobs and based on the high percentage of DV incidents. Big pass for me.

Who would you date?
Curious.
Since now we're profiling n all.

How in sweet fuck did accountants catch a stray here? I'm neither orderly nor do I care about precision when it's not needed (it's very often not). I would count Ludacris and his 20 bank accounts in at any time though.

I don’t know, man! I got an accountant in the family who looks like Jerry Garcia and wears his pajamas to work so I’m as confused as you.

Ladies in the end you’re much better off dating a firefighter. 😂

Any man that dates me? Must be able to fight fire. 🔥😉

With proper hose placement I can put out any fire. Just need to get in deep to get drench all the hot spots.

As if I needed another reason to think you’re a fucking amazing woman, you pull out this shit. 😍

Also, I agree. :)

I understand it’s not a thread about race. But it’s the height of prejudice to say that you wouldn’t continue talks simply based upon a person’s occupation.

I don’t want your opinion to be mine. But I suspect you would show quite a moral outrage if someone said something similar with regard to something other than occupation. Certainly unflattering statistics can be shared about a number of jobs, races or religions.

I think when we judge people based on the actions of others, we perpetuate prejudice. You are literally choosing discrimination.
I just love the things you say

Well, based on risk factors, I choose to not date men, as they are exponentially more likely to commit DV crimes. It takes a certain kind of personality that men seem to possess which leads to domestic abuse and I’m not having any of that. So I’m sticking with women.

*props self up on high horse*

Also, I bet Trekka is dripping in firefighter semen right now.

Awww, thank you!
Right back ‘atcha, chica. 😘

I think it’s just an important, gentle reminder to not judge a book by its cover.

Or profession.

At one point I believe Ted Bundy was working for the Natl Suicide Hotline while he was studying psychology at UW, for example. Such a catch!

If I didn’t like the D quite so much, I might agree with you here. Not about Trekka, she is undoubtedly enjoying her life.

Exponentially is a large word - in fact the latest figures show that the amount of DV perpetrated on men by women is climbing, if the trend continues it will not be long before it evens out. The figures are also skewed because 1 men dont report incidnces of domestic violence and 2 when they do - nobody believes them.

I am a first responder working with the ambulance service - and I attended a call where a man had been attacked by a woman, had a moderate to severe laceration to his head and had called police to report the incident - and HE got arrested just because it was a DV call and the police made assumptions.

Would i date a police officer. Probably not becuse they seem to be all dumb fucks. it has nothing to do with their occupation, just the level of intelligence in a LEO seems to be lacking these days.
Would I date a firefigter - probably not - they don't know how to keep their hoses in their pants.

Who would i date? anyone that would have me - which is probably a very small selection - but i found one and i'm very happy with her. (and neither of us beats up the other one.)

I don't know, one of the nicest people I've met on Lit is a Yankees fan (you have no idea what sacrilege that is for Bostonian to say that), and I have met nice Lakers fans (I hope there is a cure for that fandom).

Honestly! As if we needed any other evidence that sexual orientation is something we are born with. I would absolutely choose women over men. I even tried once, but it’s definitely not for me. I am so very fortunate to have found the man I’ve been with for the past several years - he’s incredible!

Now, I am totally down to Golden Girls my later years should I find myself flying solo.

In the lovely state of MA an employee (male) was put into the hospital by a women, and they arrested him for DV because women never harm men (despite being fully able to do anything a man can do).

OTOH I was brought up you NEVER hit a woman. Just not done. Not enough bad things can happen to men who do.

I'd talk to a cop, I mean, why not? They're people too. Not a hard question that way.

How do you react? I would be a little wary. Having been arrested more than once in my life will do that, you know? But, I'm no cop hater.

Does it increase your interest? Not particularly. Yea, I know, not a very interesting answer. Then why am I here!? I don't know! I don't know! Coffee please?

Are you neutral? Yea, pretty neutral. Huh? Neutral about what exactly?

I mean, if it turns out this cop is some hard bitten thuggish cop with heaps of PTSD, has multiple difficulties with shooting civilians? I am not going to be neutral. But then I am also not going to poke him or her with a stick either. Might even be good to think about an exit strategy. That cop is obviously not the same as the one that's a desk jockey and never leaves the station.

Or is it a deal killer? Hmmm, no, I'll happily sell him or her some life insurance. Or, heyyyyy was this about dating a cop? That could have been a little more clear. I'm not dating, nor am I inclined to be. If I were? No, people are people. I might want to know more. Like, are they nutzi sympathizers? Do they need training? Maybe I could help. 😈

How about, Car washers? Waste collectors? IRS agents? Pastors? Mom's basement dwellers? Painters? So many different occupations. I digress.

You meet someone in some public social setting ( you know, the old fashioned way ) and are having your first conversation with them. At some point it comes out that they are a police officer. How do you react? Does it increase your interest? Are you neutral? Or is it a deal killer?
Deal killer. 100%. But I would tell them.
