Omicron.

It appears that the Democrat Industrial Media Complex is going to try and put the mass hysteria genie back in the bottle now that Biden (with the benefit of vaccines) is "responsible" for more deaths than attributed to Trump with no vaccine available until days after the election.

"We're doing very, very well. Very manageable. There's no crisis. We have about 460 patients in our hospitals. That's less than 10% of our overall capacity."@NorthwellHealth CEO @MichaelJDowling on Hospital situation in New York.

As has been aptly demonstrated, mass hysteria is easily fomented. Recalling it is going to be interesting.

The above competes with the contingent that wants fear-based mass mailing of ballots redux.

With elections looming next year,
it's time to place bets on when the
Democrat media establishment declares
its victory over virus and time to move on...

I say they start in July when weather begins suppressing outbreaks.
In October, all mention of Omicron will be dropped from the public lexicon.

If Republicans sweep (which is looking likely [and I know this will get pushback])
then the virus will rear its ugly head in a sudden reemergence and the blame game will begin anew...

The media can do what they want but they won't be able to suppress the foreign media and the new panic over whatever follows Omicron because whatever follows Omicron will panic the Eurozone and panic is contagious.

Last night's news in the UK:

We know omicron is more infectious and is spreading fast. What we don't know is whether it will cause more deaths or more severe cases in hospital - yet.

We won't know until January.

We know...

It's been in South Africa for as long as you're now willing to wait for British results.

I know. But South African data might be massaged by their government. They are desperate for tourists in their summer. Even if it isn't:

What agrees with UK data so far is that Omicron infects more younger (unvaccinated ) people than the older vaccinated ones. But South Africa does not have as many older people as the UK. The average age of their population is 14 years lower than the UK's. They have far fewer people over 65.

We don't know what will happen if older vaccinated people contract Omicron. The South African data has too few older infected people to make any calculation - yet. But when we know, the UK data could be used to predict what hapems in the US.

I already suspect what is going to transpire.

Fear is a powerful and lucrative industry but,
fool me once...

;) ;)

The UK media is backpedalling fast on the threat of Omicron. But they, like the medical professionals, don't know what the reality will be.

Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are introducing more measures, either today or from Boxing day. In England? No change yet but they re saying if the data gets worse, from Boxing Day onwards they might bring in more restrictions.

Apparently, it depends on how many people get a booster jab - about one million a day currently, and how Omicron affects the UK population in terms of deaths and hospitalizations. So far except in London which has the most unvaccinated people, hospital admissions are flat. But in London they are rising fast.

They know. They're smart. They can see. It's already evident.

Be calm. Don't panic. That doesn't sell soap to the unwashed.

New studies say Omicron COVID-19 variant appears milder than Delta strain

Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Two new scientific studies indicate that the Omicron COVID-19 variant appears to be milder than prior strains like Delta, but it still has the potential to kill and overwhelm hospitals worldwide.

So, even though it somehow appears to have the magical ability to appear in every corner of the human population almost simultaneously, it doesn't appear to have much of a kick.

Maybe the fuckers that panicked and trashed the markets last week will go bury their heads now.

Maybe it IS milder but if even a small percentage of those who get it need hospital treatment and might die, a smaller percentage of a larger population could lead to more hospitalizations and deaths than the smaller number of Delta sufferers.

A week or so ago the UK was running around 40,000 infections a day. Now it is over 100,000 and that increase is mainly down to Omicron. 2 % of 40,000 (800) is less than 1% of 100,000 (1,000)

NO! ours is carefully crafted by government employees. it is 100% on message. always.

Our politicians are often embarrassed by the truth given by the Office of National Statistics. They are independent of government and tell it how it is, without political spin.

should be interesting if Russia does its usual Christmas thing of invading somewhere, to see how quickly Covid falls off the top headline spot.

Doctor please, some more of these, into the store ....

For 2nd time in 2 days, FDA gives emergency clearance to COVID-19 antiviral pill
Dec. 23 (UPI) -- For the second time in as many days, federal regulators on Thursday granted emergency approval to an antiviral pill as a treatment for COVID-19 -- this one from Merck.

https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/202...thorization-merck-molnupiravir/9711640275797/

The UK has ordered millions of anti-viral pills that can help people who have caught Covid. This time last year such things didn't exist. (except some of the much posted useless ideas such as bleach, and ivermectin).

The number of people dying as a percentage of those needing hospital treatment is dropping as more treatments are approved. But none of them are as effective as being vaccinated. That is the largest help to surviving if you need to go to hospital, and if you hadn't been, after catching Covid it is far too late for a vaccine to help.
