Omicron.

I am waiting to see which age group has the highest vax fatality rate. We may have millions of orphans.

What vax fatality rate? Covid death rate? Yes. Vax death rate? Almost invisible. Chicago has more gunshot deaths in a week than the worldwide total of deaths from the vaccines.

In the UK for the last year to the end of October, the number of deaths recorded from the adverse effect of the vaccination is 9. That is death certificates where the primary cause is stated to be the Covid vaccination. There could be other contributing causes. That compares with 146,000+ deaths from Covid.

For what it's worth; I saw an interview with an expert who said that speculation about Omicron being less virulent is premature because it is confronting populations that are highly vaccinated or with some natural immunity, and thus may only APPEAR to be less of a threat than Delta.

Rememeber that most hospitalizations and deaths are among the unvaccinated even with Delta.

If everybody was vaccinated, Delta would APPEAR to be less dangerous than some earlier variants.

The good news is, with a combination of vaccines, natural immunity, and therapeutics, a total collapse of healthcare services is unlikely.

That ^ doesn't mean healthcare services won't be severly stressed, which justifies the continued need for mitigation efforts.

All true, except I would add that the U.S. health care system is run by human beings who have been dealing with this shit for 2 years, and they've all about had it. Another surge of new patients is going to be more than many of them can manage.

I think the big remaining questions with Omicron are:

1. How dangerous it will be for those who have no level of immunity from either a vaccine or from a previous Covid infection. That's a minority at this point, but in the U.S. that's still millions of people.

2. Whether it really does lead to fewer hospitalizations and deaths, or if that's just an illusion caused by its speed. Omicron cases seem to have already peaked in South Africa, where it hasn't even yet been a month since it was revealed to be a new variant, so there hasn't really been time for a lot of these cases to advance to the point of hospitalization.

The South African population is much younger than in the US (or UK). For the UK the average age of South Africans is 14 years younger than the UK average. They also have far fewer people aged over 65.

The number of South Africans who have had the vaccine, even one dose, is lower than in the US or UK. It has been said that it needs two vaccinations AND the booster to provide effective protection against Omicron infections and to reduce the severity if you become infected. Very few South Africans have had two vaccinations plus the booster.

So would I. At present I am drinking some 'premium lager' from Aldi. It's good enough to go with a Vindaloo.

PS. Locally our Labour Party branch is in turmoil. The local Chairman has just cancelled the membership of an 84-year-old blogger who has been a Labour party member for over 60 years.

Her offences?

1. For suggesting that Starmer's performance in PMQs was pathetic, and

2. Querying the membership numbers stated to be in the local branch since only one-third of that number voted Labour in the last General election and only a quarter voted in the last Council elections.

Aldi lagar is quite decent, jerry knows a thing or two about ABV to be frank.

mine is in open warfare, quite literally near the home guard club adajent to Morrisons, after some *ickhead sent an email to all members (not bcc).. some decent 'reply to all' responses,

not being anti prozionist with anti corbyn tendancies?

local branch of the conservative party of great britain and northern ireland (imitation socialist branch) seeks non union brick layer and had carrier to build wall in order to mark the great day

Lidl have some half decent beers also.

In Thanet District Council, the opposition to the ruling group is dissident Conservatives who accuse the others (with some justification) of corruption and cronyism. The few Labour and Lib Dem members just watch. But the Brexit party almost unseated the Tories and then all become Tories - wimps!

that'll be the farge DNA. my local councillor seriously misjudged the electorate, started a petition to oust Corbyn, signed it on behalf of the CLP, rose to the rank of leader of the council.... is now unemployed. :D :rose:

Agreed; though I do remain hopeful that therapeutics, faniliarity with the disease, and less severely compromised patients will lessen the burden on healthcare providers..

I also believe that decent people will continue to practice mitigation efforts to offset the Deplorables who do not.

That ^ is another key point Deplorables comstantly overlook. If not for the previous and ongoing mitigation efforts by decent people, healthcare systems could have already reached their breaking point.

A lot is riding on the Pfizer pill. While vaccines are obviously still the best defense against Covid, the Pfizer pill should provide healthcare services with a powerful tool to reduce the number of occupied hospital beds. Being able to give a significant number of patients a prescription and sending them home to their own beds would be a game changer.

You are part of the SFB's that latch onto a fragment and attempt to apply it to the whole. No one that I know in the scientific community claim that the Wuhan Flu was "engineered." Nor does anyone I know of in the scientific community claim that the virus was purposely released.

On the other hand the growing consensus is that it DID originate in that lab and most likely spread by a worker in that lab.

So take your parsing and shove it where the Sun doesn't shine.

Given the latest news:
China's massive investment into building brain-control weaponry

https://www.wionews.com/videos/grav...ain-control-weapons-for-super-soldiers-437794

I think that more former skeptics will start considering the lab leak theory

PS -- This would merit a thread of it's own, the way China is using the new technologies to become no.1 is super-interesting and super-nuts!
I read that China is also testing AI (monitoring of brainwaves) in classrooms!!!

If Omnicron spread as fast in the US as it is doing in the UK and Europe, the US is going to have difficulties coping, particularly with the numbers refusing any vaccines.
South Africa has a 25% vaccination rate. There are places in the US where the vaccination rate is 93%. South Africa is doing just fine and the more vaccinated areas of the US are not doing better than the less vaccinated areas.

The only consistent variable is weather. When people are closed up indoors breathing recirculated air they are more likely to catch it. There is no other variable that is reliable.

If this variant was the original variant we wouldn't be having any of these discussions nor would we have taken any of the actions we have taken. There is no evidence whatsoever so far that this particular variant is anything to fear. There is lots of evidence that this variant is mild in both vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

Dr. Coronager has been so monumentally wrong about everything Covid related that it's only fitting he continues to be wrong about Omicron.

Dr. Coronager's predictions about Covid were only marginally better than the POS who claimed Covid would magically disappear by Easter 2020. (Although, that ^ POS knew he was lying).

SAD!!'

They are still fully stocked from the last PR stunt

Yeah: Trump's PR stunt necessitated by his failire to prepare for and respond to a predicted pandemic.

And while the deployment of Mercy and Comfort were mostly for optics, the federal government DOES deploy personnel and equipment via other avenues to help states that are overwhelmed by Covid cases.

👍

This is complete utter horseshit.
The death rate in "red" states which have a higher percentage of unvaccinated people is approx 25 per 100,000. In blue states it's 7.8. And that gap has been widening for the last five months.

It has to be the same in your country where we have observed
