we your highly intelligent Government are not going to tell you what we have found out or where we expect it. We do not need your help in fighting these attacks and so we lose a few more unemployed people. Thank You for your attention. Flame ON!

OK .. here we go again. We have a new FBI warning out there. We’re being told that there is a 100 percent chance of some sort of a new terrorist attack within a week or so. What kind of attack? Who knows? If the FBI does, which I doubt, we aren’t being told.

So, just what was the purpose of issuing this warning? If Americans don’t know what type of an attack it’s going to be, how can we protect ourselves? Other than being just a bit more alert, there’s not much we can do. The more irrational among us can stay off of airplanes I guess, but I plan to be flying this weekend – and my wife will be going commercial – so I’m not buying into that “fear of flying” nonsense.

Perhaps the FBI warning was meant more for the terrorists than for the American public. “We know you’re planning something. Now you guess how much more we know.” Maybe the purpose is to get them to fall back and regroup.

While we’re pondering that question … ask again, what is the purpose of terrorism? The purpose is not to kill innocent people. The purpose of terrorism is to make innocent people fearful of being killed. That being the true goal, the attack we’re being warned of, whether it’s carried out or not, has been somewhat successful.

Someone ought to print some placards to place in empty airline seats. “This empty seat represents a victory for the enemies of freedom.” Nothing would depress these Islamic nut-cases more than to see Americans resuming normal behavior. Can we at least make an effort to do just that?

Hold on, Todd got married?

If they told everyone " this is gonna happen and then 2 things will happen..

1) Panic in the affected area?
2) Terrorists change their plans.

Ok, we are at war
AND
They have information from a "reputable individual" that there is going to be a terrorist attack sometime within the next three days.. So let's send the Pres of the US to Yankee Stadium with a whole bunch of people. And show him on national TV throwing out the first pitch. Are they TRYING to get our President assasinated?

Ummm how stupid is this?

I heard that some of the informaton on the attack came from CSIS.

Well I would tend to say that since they don't want to instill fear or panic, IF they actually do have info on a reputable attack from a reputable source.............shouldn't they have just kept their damn big mouths shut...............for fear of creating hysteria or panic of merely just knowing that an attack might be coming?

Although at least it might put people on an elevated alert status to keep their eyes open and report strange things or sightings of suspicous things happening or taking place............

Todd isn't married -

The problem is he cut and pasted something and overlooked that line.

Fear: They say they intercepted telephone calls from Canada to Afghanistan referring to big trouble "down South," meaning in the US of A. Sounds disinformational to me - by al-Qaeda, or by our government. We have to believe, if not to hope, that there's some reasoning behind what we're told. I'm hardly one of those folks with a pathetic faith in our government, but if the best they can do is rev up our vigilance, so be it. I certainly don't see panic - ANYWHERE.

I get the feeling sometimes that the only thing that will shut up the nay-sayers just now is another big terrorist event, as if 9/11 and 3 1/2 dead anthrax victims isn't disturbing enough.

Talk about that proverbial rock and hard place. The FBI has "credible information" that there may be another attack.

Choice A - Alert the proper officials of gov't agencies and law enforcement in the affected areas. Attack may not occur and FBI is accused of inciting terror. (Even if the alert isn't made public by the Atty General and the FBI, you KNOW it will be on the news. Someone somewhere will pass the alert along.)

Choice B - Maintain former alert levels, attack does or does not happen but someone somewhere sometime finds out that the FBI had information that it was possible. FBI is now villified for not giving a warning and providing the public with needed information.

from my RELIABLE source

I work with a guy who'sister-in-law lives down in central florida. Her best friend was dating one of the highjackers. (of course she didn't know this at the time) When he left she found a note telling her not to fly any where on Sept 11, 2001 and not to be in any malls ANYWHERE on Oct 31, 2001. Of course, at first she didn't know what to make of the note. Then when the attacks happened she turned the note over to the FBI.

My friend was telling me this about 2 weeks ago when he learned I was going to orlando this past weekend. He thought I might be taking my girls to the Florida Mall to trick or treat for halloween. Honestly, I thought he was full of bull. But now, I dunno..... Could this have anything to do with the vague warning they gave us???

The story above is pure urban legend--an absolute fiction. I have personally been sent e-mail claiming different versions of the exact same thing, by at least 5 people. IT'S UTTER BULLSHIT. You've been stung by the infamous FOAF--friend of a friend.

Damned if you do and damned if you do, so what do you do? At the very least forewarn of a "potential" attack to heighten senses and keep people alerted to the possibility of an attack. I fear this one, may happen in my hometown (Charlotte, NC).....

The reason you ask, Charlotte is the second largest banking center in the US of A outside of NYC. So just for good measure I am staying away from downtown for the next few days and OUT OF THE MALLS for the NEXT FEW DAYS also...........

there have been several warnings similar to what Savage Kitten posted about...........maybe it is NOT true and maybe it is TRUE. But considering some of the sources I have heard it from, I will take my chances by staying away from MALLS. Period.

Work with a guy whose sister-in-law's bestfriend??? I think you're a couple degrees over the bullshit-o-meter right there.

*shrugs* i dunno... i was sorta thinkin the same thing. altho, i haven't gotten any email about. it's enough for me though, to keep my children at home, close to me, this halloween.

no matter if it is this "urban legend" or some other, the gov. told us what they did for a reason. i think more than trying to get the message out to us they were letting the terrorist know that they are on to them.....

i guess we all hold our breaths in baited anticipation....

Like morninggirl said there are probably many people who do have a need to know about the threat, so why not just release it rather than have it leak out from Barney Fife or some congressional intern.

Yeah, 3 1/2 dead anthrax victims, but during the same period we probably had 1500 common cold deaths. Not to mention 800 auto accident victims a week.

I understand what you are saying... I could give you names but, I'd rather not get that personal. The girl this officer was telling me about has been a friend of their family for sometime, and is his wife's sister's best friend....

I'm not trying to convince anyone... just trying to say.. watch yourself and becareful

Welllllll .......

I'm not going anywhere near a mall tomorrow ..... even if there is a great shoe sale at Bloomies.

I only type 120 words per minute. Is that fast?:D

Nope I'm not one of your students. I'm way to old and dumb for school. ;) Oh wait, no that's not it. I have to work to pay bills, can't waste my time getting a much better education this late in life. ;)

I'm not letting anyone get in my way of free candy. :D

We are going to the school carnival. To wet, cold and windy here to be out trick or treating anyway.
