I am SO pissed. The mother in law called to cancel last week. I called to sign up on thursday. They mentioned then that they didn't have an order to cancel. So, I told her, and she called them on Friday. Yesterday, no phone. Today, called em, and bitched, they said it wasn't turned off. Mother in Law said she called again after us, and they gave her a line about wanting to re-connect her. So, we called back. NOW, they are saying that since she had been disconnected due to lack of payment, they need to prove we didn't live there at the time, because of the same last names. So, in order to have a phone, I have to dig around, find bills in my name, from September, and October, that say I didn't live there. Then, fax em to them. Then, after that, I can call on it to get it connected the next day. THEn, I might have a fucking phone by thursday.

I am SO pissed off.

Phew, are you sure you don't live in Australia? Sounds just like the same system we have over here - screwed, and we have to pay for local calls too!!!!

Sit down, put your feet up and take deep breaths - you can get through this.

:)

yeah

I hear ya....we here have to pay for some shit called "Local long distance"...now what the hell is that all about......?

With all the deals out......free nights, weekends etc.etc....cell phone can actually be cheaper than a land line........well here in the midwest anyway......lots of cell competion here.

:)

Ok, phone company legalities...

Is it legal to keep a canceled line open, and refuse to connect a new line, based on a previous tenants phone bill?

We called to cancel her line. They are telling us now that we can't get a line hooked up there until she pays off the majority of a $500 phone bill that she stopped paying on almost 2 months ago. We used my name (which still retains my maiden name) to avoid any conflicts with canceling in her last name, and re-instating in hubby's same last name. I knew when I called last week there would be a problem doing that, because she had a huge bill, and it had -just- been shut off for non-payment. So, we put it in my name, and they never said anything about it. Overall, between her, and us, we have now called on it 8 times. 4 of which were today. It wasn't until call number 7 when they even gave us that reason for not turning it on.

So, is it legal to with hold a service based on someone elses previous service agreement? The numbers were not switched to our name. The whole deal was kept seperate by last name, and they have no idea she even IS related to us in any way.

They own the lines......so they can do pretty much what they like. Breaking up the monopoly of ATT did nothing for the consumer, it just opened the door for goughing.

They did this to us

My parents bought me and my girls a house four years ago. during the time we were restoring it which was 6 months my dad had a phone put in so people could reach us.

Well when it was time for me to move in, my dad had just sent in his check (now mind you he had paid on time every month) and they said they couldnt hook us up until the bill was paid there. Now my dad and I have diffrent last names as I am married so I got to thinking what if it is rental property and you move in and the last tenant didnt pay the bill, are you screwed then?

We fought with them for over two weeks even after they received payment it was a nightmare! But unfortunalty like with cable and water they have a monopoly going you cant choose who you want to go with, you have no choice.

Good luck to you keep us posted

Ok, now I am well and truly pissed.

Hubby called again. Asked to talk to a manager. Manager told him to get it through his head that we weren't getting service. Then she hung up on him.

Gilly, I can't help you today, but tomorrow I will send you a phone number for Ameritech's executive offices. They happen to be at the very top of my shit list. I won't go into my story here, but yours doesn't compare...yet.

Go to the FCC site and file a complaint against them.

:)

Well, I finally got some info I wanted out of them.

Called, told em who I was, and the problem, and that I just had a few questions left, reguarding the previous account. They told me I can't access information about a previous account unless it was mine. I told them that if they were holding the previous account against me, then I damn well wanted information from it, because that was my right. They gave in. Anyway, I found out that my mother in law knew from the first time she called that we would need to send in verification of our previous address before the phone line would be able to be activated. Which is what I figured happened, since they never put forth a cancellation notice under her name. Either way, hubby was arguing that no one told us, so why would they tell her? I argued that since it was in her name, and the history was sitting right in front of them at the time, that they likely knew then, and would have told her then. So, I called, got the info outta them, and proved she DID know that. They said it is standard proceduare, to make certain the exsisting tenant isn't trying to pull another phone line under a different name.

-GROWL-

Ok, Yesterday, I was told to fax in verification of my previous address. I was told they would recieve that right away, and process it. The next buisness day (Today) I was to call first thing in the morning, and the phone would be turned on that same day.

Now, I called last night, to make sure they recieved it. I was bounced from a few departments, and finally, someone in the faxing department said it had been recieved, and should be all set in the morning.

NOW, they are telling me that they have not even looked at yesterdays faxes yet, and that there is no way someone could have told me it was there or when it would be done.

And to top it off, it will be tomorrow before they get to yesterday's faxes, and one more buisness day to process it, leaving me phoneless until at least monday.

So, after I hear that, I get mad, and get off the phone. Now, I called back, and asked to speak with a manager. They refuse to put me through to one.

So help me, if there were another form of service in my area, I would take it immediatly, and tell these guys in no uncertain terms to go fuck themselves.

Be sure to call them when you go into labor. Since they wont give you a phone line, let them call your family and friends for you.

ROFL

Actually, I had thought of doing that!

I was going to call them up, and tell them, well, I am in labor now, you have yet to give me a line, so here's the list of people you need to call for me. Oh, and can you send some nice flowers to me as well? Maybe a balloon or two?

Maybe some of those nice Godiva ones? I really like the dark chocolate. Oh, and since it has been 9 months since i have had a single drink, and I MORE then deserve it after the stress you have given me, don't forget to add in a bottle of the nice Godiva Chocolate Liquere... And maybe a bottle of buttershots as well. Thanks for your service :)

-grins-

That would be SO nice of me, would it not?

Also, I complained to he BBB about them and since Ameritech is a member of the BBB, they are required to promptly address the issue to my satisfaction. :)

Ok, I am banning Ameritech! I swear!

And if there was another phone company in my area, I WOULD, too!

Today, I FINALLY got approved to have the line put in. They said the first day I would have a phone no later then wensday. Then, it was wait 48 hours (to thursday) and you will have a phone on friday. Today, I was approved, and they now tell me, well I think we can get it turned on first thing Tuesday.

So, I am phoneless till tuesday. Also, I won't have the phone at the old place like I do now. So, I am no longer internet happy. Nothing at all to keep me happy. Nothing but boxes upon boxes to unpack. -sighs- I hate this lots. Anyway, after tonight, you won't see me till next week. Good luck to all, and hopefully the next time I post, I will also be sharing news of a new baby. We can hope, can't we?

I was going to say something sarcastic about the balance of your hormones, but no...... I do hope you have a short labour and a lovely, lovely child.

I look forward to your return with lovely screaming child.
