I liked the "Same opening line" thing. It could be one line or a paragraph, or three paragraphs and I'd find it interesting to read how each author wove their tale from the same thread.

From there... maybe have everyone write the same opening line and arrive at the same ending line? Not necessarily everyone with the sane ending, but just the same line. Be a good challenge I think.

The same beginning and ending would be a good challenge, I think. It would probably (in my opinion) work best if it's the same opening line and same closing line.

... ha, maybe one challenge could actually be "write a loving wives story that is actually about a loving wife." That would really piss then off, twelve stories sitting in the new story section of LW that are sweet affectionate tales of fabulous wives.

I think this is the third time (at least) I've seen this mentioned. You guys really want to bait the LW trolls, don't'cha?

Every story has to end with the same piece of dialog...and the story must be relevant to the dialog.

Something like...

"...and I thought I would die...from __________ !"

Leave the last phrase to the author.

I disagree on monkey paw ending up with the same story. But then again I'm weird so maybe I just don't get lost with looking at a monkey paw and going what the fuck do you do with it.

A central location is a rather good one, and I thought of it. Oh my god, you guys are listening to me. I guess hell froze over.

LW would be interesting, and I happen to not be afraid of posting something there, just haven't typed it up yet. It's even of a loving wife. Fairly old idea I think I even mentioned it in the forums once, about a wife that just lost her husband and gets bent over his coffin by his best friend as part of his will.

It's not the scene that's the issue. It's writing about real people who live or have lived. I've used historical people in stories, but in passing, not as any part of the erotica. And if it was any category but Non-Erotic I'd be writing erotica, because . . . well . . . this is an erotica site.

Yeah, celebrity is not anything I like either. I've read a few, and admittedly laughed at some of the way over-the-top ones (I recall some space-age wrestling match between Janet Jackson and J Lo, I think). Generally, though, it does feel like an intrusion to me as well, or like a bad practical joke.

As for LW, it's not a category I like, either. So I might let it slide. I joked about writing about an actual loving wife, and I know others (like DG Hear) have done it, but to me that's not much different than a romance.

I've pulled the bait-n-switch in LW before and did reasonably well with an actual loving wife. Only have two, and that's one of them. The other is a cheating story.

I don't really like writing about cheating, so that's why I don't really venture there that often. Any story that doesn't involve cheating will do much better in another category.

Keeping my eye on the thread as usual. If the final criteria spark an idea, I'll jump on it.

Mature is my bread and butter in this pen name, so naturally, that appeals to me. It's also a much overlooked category that gets tremendous reader response. Anyone who hasn't written in it will probably find themselves rather pleasantly surprised by the feedback.

There seems to be a lot of reaction to this particular idea (writing to Loving Wives). That's not to say we're definitely going that route, but the appeal is obviously there.

I approached this with one within the bounds of both being a husband-wife romance and the wife sleeping with another man, with the "why" being the hook, and that worked pretty well.

Unless you're looking at it from the same point of view as Loving Wives, in which case, don't all husbands cheat on their wives?

Actually, that offers another interesting possibility for a FAWC. A Loving Husbands series of stories, focused on why a man would cheat on his wife, or what a wife would do if she caught her husband cheating. A role-reversal for the category.

Appealed for me at the time because I wanted to crack the category but still stay closer to what I could stomach. There was a good reason why the husband encouraged it in the context of the story--and I particularly liked it because it got a Green E. The editor apparently could see what I was trying to do in cracking the category without being sleazy.

The hook I was going for was sex outside of marriage that wasn't cheating (because the husband knew and encouraged it) and that had mitigating reasoning behind it. It isn't something I normally would write, but each time I write for the LW category is to toy with the theme--and not to poke the lion therein.

I'll keep my eye on the contest - but love the idea of working from a common thematic photo.

That would be a really good image to work from. I enter an annual art museum short story contest based on images from the museum's collection, and it's a very interesting exercise.

The only thing I've seen suggested that I'm not wild about is the backwards story. I'm not ready for that. I'd even do celebrities, which I'm not crazy about. I have a little unwritten cartoon thing in my pile.

Well, it's been steady since yesterday afternoon, so I think I made the right move. I'll be sure after I can go a week without incident.

At this point, we're only tossing around ideas. Over the next couple of weeks, I'm sure a definite plan will solidify.

Everyone that participates in FAWC are very diverse, and it'd be awesome to see a picture and read different realizations of the same photo. So... I guess I'm for the same photo for everyone rather than each their own.

On another note, the last two FAWCs of course generated the "who wrote what" guessing game here on the forum. At first I was like "well what's the point of the anonymous challenge then?" But while I dove into every entry with an open mind, not caring about who wrote which story, after they were all read and voted I did sorta wonder. And I think its an unintentional and entertaining product of the challenge that I think we all enjoy.

And for the FAWC authors, I hope you all return for the next challenge. I was a reader and it was kinda like an "all-star game" of Let's talented authors. Great fucking job to everybody and nice change of pace. Just like I do with all my favorite TV shows, I rolled my eyes when Slyc posted the "Anyone wanna FAWC" thread, then immediately dove in and loved the damned contest. Well done to all.

I love the photo idea, and I think it would be most interesting if everyone used the same photo.

I also like the idea of everyone starting with the same sentence or paragraph, and even ending on the same one, too.

Then you can count me in. If you're tabulating votes, I like the LW suggestion or the picture challenge. The same opening line, not so much.

Some other ideas:

A period (like the 80s, or the 40s, Victorian era, or maybe go all medieval on our asses.

Technology

Create a cast of 12-20 characters, and randomly assign 2-4 of them per author.

The guessing game has turned out to be one of the most interesting aspects of these challenges. It wasn't planned to be part of the mix, but looking back at the start of it I can see easily how it became such an integral part of the exercise.

Personally, I like the critiques. There have been some really detailed analyses of the stories, and a lot of interesting observations made about content, style, and characterization. I think that, more than anything, is what makes FAWC so valuable for those who participate.

NaNo begins Nov. 1. Some of us will be involved with that and completing two stories could be difficult. Incorporating FAWC 3 into NaNo is a possibility if we know the parameters early enough.
