So, over a week ago, my Internet connection went down . . . and stayed down. Friday came and went, then Saturday. Had some access on Sunday, but not much. What time I did get I had to devote to accessing my virtual classroom.

Finally fed up with unreliable Internet, I called a different provider and they were able to send me the equipment I needed to get set up. Lo and behold, the wireless receiver didn't work. Turned out it was defective. After calling the company, and verifying that it wasn't receiving the signal, they sent out another one that arrived in the mail today.

Since getting it installed, it appears I now have functional Internet.

We'll see. :p

Anyway . . . .

On the assumption that the new Internet service is going to be reliable, I figured we could get to setting up FAWC 3. I don't have a concrete idea as of yet, but I know there are some good ones which have already been mentioned, such as submitting all stories to the same category (other than Chain Stories -- they would all go to Erotic Horror, or Loving Wives, or Lesbian, whatever).

So let's brainstorm and come up with some ideas for the next FAWC, or the next few for that matter. We'll have some time before the Winter Holidays contest begins, so there's no immediate rush.

The trials and tribulations of internet carriers.

Welcome back.

Thanks, Zeb.

On to FAWCking.

A few ideas that have been rattling around in my head for the next challenge:

1) Scenes From A Hat: A popular schtick from the TV improvisation show Whose Line Is It? is that the actors would perform a scene based on an idea pulled from a hat. We could come up with, say, a dozen basic scenarios (wife caught cheating, sister spies on brother, traffic accident, etc.) and then each writer would receive one of those at random.

2) Same Start: All the stories start with the same basic premise. Maybe it's an exact line, or paragraph, or maybe just the same basic beginning (four people in a coffee house, for instance).

3) Going Backwards: This one could be tricky, but fun. The idea is to write the events in the story in descending order. In other words, you start with the ending, then work backwards to where the story began. This one might scare off some people, but who knows?

Other ideas?

Any chance you'll get your Halloween story in? I was looking forward to it. :)

Oh bad slyc, you skipped one.

There is the same thing in each story, pants or a great hat. Blue light, don't look at me like that I mentioned the blue light story for the Halloween story thread in story ideas. It's been sitting there going type me you bitch.

Doesn't have to be an article of clothing, can be a car. A hotel, actually that is a good one. I mean people go to hotels for every reason under the sun. Car can be a good one as well since it only has to drive by at some point. ;)

Now if you want to really make it hard, make it an off the wall thing, like a monkey paw. Also leave it just monkey paw, so perhaps it is a monkey that is alive and in the story, or is it a dessicated paw like you can find in some of the odder occult stores, not to mention a Chinese apothecary. Perhaps it is just a poster or a tattoo.

It didn't seem like I was going to get it done in time, but I received a flash of inspiration this afternoon while watching a SyFy movie. So, we'll see.

Having a similar element in each story would work, but I think for the purposes of the challenge, the item would have to be more or less central to the story. We may end up with some serious repetition if fifteen writers all have to write a story involving a monkey paw. A more banal object -- like a hat -- would fit that theme better, I think.

Could do the category thing--they all have to be MFM and posted to Group Sex. It would bust the category open and make it accept a category belonging there. :D

MFM, MMF, FFM . . . Lots of variation there.

I think it was Bucky in the other thread that proposed Loving Wives. An anonymous challenge would be an interesting way for some writers to post their first foray into that category.

'Course, they wouldn't remain anonymous . . . .

I would think an interesting approach to LW would be in fact to write about... a loving wife. :p Silly me.

I admit I'm kind of torn about it. I like writing in whatever category comes to mind with the topic, but then they're kind of exiled to Chain Stories. So writing in just about any other category has a great appeal as well.

I also like the idea of everyone starting with the same idea or sentence or what have you and seeing where they go.

I wouldn't mind. I haven't done badly in the LW category.

*Gasp!* How dare you suggest we actually write about loving wives! :p

Writing to a specific category would certainly give us more reads. I can only imagine the reaction a Loving Wives FAWC would receive from the readership.

I also like the idea of everyone starting with the same idea or sentence or what have you and seeing where they go.

Reminds me of Finding Forrester, when he gives the kid a couple of paragraphs he wrote decades before and tells him to continue it. This one has appeal.

I wouldn't mind. I haven't done badly in the LW category.

I've only written the one, myself. I'm not intimidated by the category, just haven't had any ideas that would have ended up posted to it.

Other than Group Sex and Loving Wives, I think Fetish and Mature would be interesting categories as well.

At least one of my LW ones was a about a real loving wife. Another one that I did for a contest was a real bitch who turned into a loving wife. That's one of my "most votes" stories and came close to placing in the contest that Christmas.

How about a combination--both a category and a common first sentence or paragraph to work from?

Going to bounce in a few ideas.

I liked the random story possibility of the last one. It was a challenge beyond just the writing a good story in and of itself. It tested our creativity to find a story link between so many diverse items. Maybe something similar? But different.

Part of me would love to have this be a random category challenge. We would have fawckers all across the boards though.

I like the idea of the story being set in a location chosen at random. That could be a fun to write idea if you got something like bus, or train station. How about in a school locker room? A library?

I have no problems writing in any category, so if its all the entries going to be in the same one I'm fine with that idea as well.

Celebrity could be interesting. Who would chose what? Could you guess who wrote what based on the celebrity they chose?

Like I said, just some ideas. Like a guy with two pots of coffee and a bottle of Viagra I'm up for anything.

:D

I can too, it involves lynch mobs and burning torches. Maybe a few pitchforks thrown in for good measure.

I wouldn't do celebrity--but others might enjoy it. I consider it an intrusion I'm not going to participate in.

I think that would be fun. And by fun, I mean that it would be like being beaten, piñata style. I'm in. :D

Fetish is tough one to write in and get a good score. It's so specific to the reader and if you don't write about the 'type' of fetish they have they don't really seem to think its a good story. Tough crowd to please. (my take anyway)

Mature is almost my bread and butter. My own particular fetish i guess.:)

Star fucking is an old form of entertainment.

The celebrity doesn't have to still be alive. A period piece set in the 1800's? Buffalo Bills Really Wild West Show?

Have fun if it's chosen (which would be fine with me. I just wouldn't play that round).

It's not the scene that's the issue. It's writing about real people who live or have lived. I've used historical people in stories, but in passing, not as any part of the erotica. And if it was any category but Non-Erotic I'd be writing erotica, because . . . well . . . this is an erotica site.

The more challenge, the better. It doesn't have to be a single-element challenge (FAWC 2 wasn't, after all).

A random location is an interesting suggestion. I think it would have to involve more than that, however. Not just a locker room, but a locker room on game day or something like that.

Celebrity would be an interesting category, but I doubt there would be many takers.

I agree that fetish would be a tough one. There would probably be as much interest for that as there would be for Celebrity.

I have a similar sort of feeling for the category. I've read (or read through) maybe a dozen stories in that category. Most were along the lines of "what I would do to that pompous jackass/stuck-up bitch if I could." That's not to suggest that a FAWC in the Celebrity category would have to have stories like that, but judging from the comments I've seen on them, that theme seems to be a favorite among the readership.

I liked the challenge elements of FAWC 2 (reading them that is). It's cool that different things are done each time like this.

I like the same category deal. It'd be cool to see how each author handled the category, and it could generate a bit of readership for the category too.

I liked the "Same opening line" thing. It could be one line or a paragraph, or three paragraphs and I'd find it interesting to read how each author wove their tale from the same thread.

From there... maybe have everyone write the same opening line and arrive at the same ending line? Not necessarily everyone with the sane ending, but just the same line. Be a good challenge I think.

... ha, maybe one challenge could actually be "write a loving wives story that is actually about a loving wife." That would really piss then off, twelve stories sitting in the new story section of LW that are sweet affectionate tales of fabulous wives.

I wouldn't do celebrity either. The category has zero appeal for me.
