Celebrate with me!!

South african court has just ruled in favour of same-sex marriages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have requested that the common-law definition of marriage should be changed from being a "union between a man and a woman" to a "union between two persons".

Amen.

It's a strange country, but it has certainly come a long way in the past 10 years.

Two hours ago the court found that the marriage Act (which only approves unions between a man and a woman) is discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation. And this is after the court dismissed the appeal from a very brave lesbian couple who is demanding their right to be married.

I changed my post, but I was referring to a previous ruling. The SCA ruled that the Common Law definition of marriage included gay marriage on 30th Nov 2004, however, the 1961 Marriage Act maintained certain rules which prevented that from occurring in actuality. The Home Affairs Department took the case to the Constitutional Court, which today ordered Parliament to change the law.

Strange country indeed (signing N'kosi sikilele Africa) Did you know that SA is the only country that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in its constitution??

How many laws does it take to make life fair?

It's a lovely national anthem (and now I'm listening to it).

Yes, I did actually; it is, legally, one of the most gay-friendly nations in the world. Very strange for a country which as recently as it did had such racial policies, a country so conservative that it didn't have television until 1976 because it was "immoral". Of course, it was a completely different nation then, the country has made brilliant strides.

I miss the diversity incredibly...

That is fabulous!!! :D Now.. if only the United States and the rest of the world would follow.

Life isn't fair, and anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to sell you something, BUT that doesn't mean we can't all strive to change it.
I think it's awesome that they have fixed this particular injustice. Hopefully the rest of the world will follow suit.
