There are a couple of stories in a category that I won't touch with a bargepole, so I skipped those.

I really only read about three categories, I/T, EC and E/V.

I started with the intention of reading every entry. This morning, I made a start on that commitment.

But, as Graf Helmut von Multke the Elder wrote, "No plan survives contact with the enemy". There are a couple of stories in a category that I won't touch with a bargepole, so I skipped those. There are some stories >20k words that I have postponed until I have more time. I have read and rated stories in categories I don't usually look at.

What is your approach?

I skim around and see what takes my fancy. My own story is 25K words - apologies!

In terms of categories - I think that the contests are opportunities for us to broaden out a little in our reading by sampling stories that might be to our taste even though they're in a category we don't normally read. Many authors will have struggled to pick a category that fits the story, because the theme is Nude Day - so we have probably tended to write towards centralist storylines- the darkest recesses of L/W or N/C are less likely. As I think I said earlier, mine is in Romance, but it could have gone in Erotic Couplings, E/V or a couple of others at a pinch.

I made my first pass over the list. We are the second and third longest. @silkstockingslover has the longest entry on the list of stories up already, with @Voboy coming in just a smidgeon shorter than you. At least I feel in good company with my long entry.

Interesting. Despite being in the same category, my story is 4.58/19. I wonder if the word "nude" in your title makes a difference to the number of votes.

I’m in the “scores-don’t-matter-until-the-end” camp. I’m at 4.74, and I fully expect to finish out of the running. The big plus is increase in followers and the exposure of my back catalog. Most of my stories have gained favorites, and I’ve picked up 21 followers since the contest stories were posted.

I’m still working on mine, it looks like it’ll be 6-7k words, which is normal for me.

I don’t expect to win with this one, it’s just a crazy story I’ve had in mind for months. So far, it features nude horseback riding, nude sword and fist fighting (the characters spar with each other), and that’s before the actual sex happens!

I've been advised that in using characters from my universe I failed to provide sufficient background and development, and the story as a standalone simply doesn't work.

I don’t know, but I don’t think they ever are.
If you search for the tag of whichever contest or challenge you are checking on the list shows the category.
