Nude Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

Without exception, I dare write that I am the only writer mistreated on this site and I don't know why. Can someone please tell me why whenever I post a story whether it's a contest story or not that it's shit canned to the bottom of the pile?

Today, my story didn't post with the other contest stories. When it did finally post, it was only listed on my page. Then two hours later it was listed on the Nude Day board. Now, hours later, it still doesn't show up on the new story page. This isn't the first time either and I'm sure it won't be the last.

I wrote Laurel and she'll fix it, post it to the board, but I've already lost have a day of reads and votes.

No one else here is mistreated so unfairly. I don't understand. Maybe someone can enlighten me. Is it because I just write too many fucking stories on a fucking story site?

Oh, I know, I remember now, I may those posts yesterday about these contests being popularity contests and not writing contests.

I don't know who posts the stories, if it's Laurel herself or one of the moderators, but, whoever it is should treat all writers who write here for fucking FREE equally.

Ah, there, I feel better now. I need to edit my next story to post for tomorrow.

I'm sorry that you feel unfairly treated. It has happened to my contest entries a couple of times over the years and I have had to send a PM.

I don't think I'm unfairly treated by the system. I will moan (as we all do) about the voting and sweep mechanisms and the multiple 1 votes that keep returning.

My entry is now in the low 3.XX

Perhaps it is that bad.

I finished reading and voting on all stories posted so far. There are some really good stories here, and most got 5's from me. Great work, everyone.

Thank Og, that was very kind of you. I feel better after ranting.

I work very hard writing my stories and as everyone else is here, I'm human, too.

I apologize for my prior post.

No better detail than you've already surmised (although who knows who is doing the multiple-vote bombing; it's logical it's other contestants, but there's no way for anyone but the Web site administrators to know that). There, indeed, is vote sweeping, and not just for the contests. But the formula for doing so hasn't been revealed--and probably won't be revealed, so that those interested in doing so won't have help figuring out how to circumvent it.
That's understandable. I'm not trying to divine the security techniques of the management. I would, however, like to know what my real score is, which I imagine I will find out in due time. I notice that after only one week of voting, I already have over 50 more votes than the highest total I got in any previous contest. Do you suppose that there is now a much greater readership for the contest than there was for Earth Day? Or has the "bombing" intensified?

Category, day and time of posting, catchiness of title and tagline, plus umpteen other things influence how many votes and views you'll get.

Start with potential positives ( My title really grabbed them! ) before you start hunting for negatives :)

Despite that, you may never have a clue why something takes off. One I wrote that I damn nearly didn't post because it was barely adequate in my eyes has the highest vote total of anything I've ever written, comparable views with the highest, an above average score for my stuff in that name, etc.

To this day, I have no clue why it took off so fast and furious, and still view it as mediocre.

We've all done parodies and sattires of one another before and I was just wondering how far can I go, when writing a story about a Literotica member?

I know enough not to mention names, but will Literotica allow me to post a story about a prominent, albeit crazy individual who haunts the board, other than me, of course (lol)?

The story isn't mean spirited, rather it's funny.

How much leeway do I have when writing a story that's posted in the humor category. Obviously, for the regular AHer's you'll recognize the main character in the story immediately.

Should I write Laurel first, fess up, and ask her permission to write about someone or should I wait to see how much free speech we really do have here, when writing stories?

I'm new to the forum, and I don't know how to include quotes from multiple posters. My original comment concerned a phenomenon which I have noticed in previous contests, where at a certain point my number of votes began to go down, while my average score went up. I inferred from this that the management was purging the bogus negative votes.

During a contest, a bot periodically sweeps through the votes cast on every story and removes those that are considered dubious. The dubious votes can be negative or positive if one ip address has voted several times.

We aren't told how it works because some people would try to subvert it. It can cause jubilation if the rating rises, and grief if the rating falls, or so many votes are swept that the number falls below the minimum 25.

The last sweep just before the results are announced can be the most severe. It can elevate an also-ran to winner, or reduce a high-rated story to an also-ran.

It depends how careful you are about not identifying the person. I have been used, named as oggbashan, in the chain story The Literotica Olympics but I am not sensitive about being parodied. It isn't Literotica's reaction that is important, but how it might be regarded by lawyers in the real world.

Thanks, Og. I can assure you that the story would be nothing that anyone could develop a lawsuit. If anything it would be just in jest with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

If lawyers were likely, they could have a field day with the personal abuse that occurs every day on the General Board. :D

Mine is submitted but not posted yet.

Another of my Memories stories. Meaning it is based on something that happened with me and my second wife. The fun one. Most of it is true but some of it might not be so true. :D And I'm not telling what is what.

Good luck everyone and have fun above all else.

Submission - to - Post Delay?

Do contest submissions (appropriately marked as such) get any particular priority in being posted? Do they go up sooner than regular submissions, or is it the same (generally) three-day delay?

I put in a story last night, but now I'm thinking of tweaking it a little...I'd just like to have a little perspective on how much difference it'll make if I mess with it and re-submit. Obviously it'd be just a day's difference, but it seems like the sooner you have a story up, the more time it has to accrue votes.

Thanks!

New stories take around three days yes but Contest stories can be up as soon as a few hours depending on what time you submitted them. Usually 12 hours or less.

Wow. Thank you. That tells me everything I needed to know. Story pulled for revision. :)

Ralph, I plan to read one of your contest entries. Which one do you think is the best?

Which "one" do I think is best (lol)?

Actually, maybe you should wait until I post them all (lol). I still have another dozen to post. Then, you could pick the story from your favorite category, as I'll submitting 22 stories in 20 categories.

The one story that everyone may enjoy is the one that I wrote and will post tomorrow about Scouries, sorry, I mean, about an anonymous AH member.

I wrote a similar story years ago called Fictionrotica, I think, under BostonFictionWriter.

God damn it! This really pisses me off.

Just when I had something to complain about, they pull the rug right from under me.

Laurel posted my cross dressing contest story at the top of the new story board, instead of burying it beneath everyone else's contest story. Now, I have to find something else to complain about.

I know, after I pump my gas, I realize that I got the gas left in the hose from the guy in front of me, who just pumped his gas, but my gas, the gas that I just paid for is still left in the hose. I know. Especially with the high price of gas these days, doesn't that just piss you off?

I've been thinking about bringing a ladder with me, every time I buy gas, so that I can climb the ladder to straighten out the gas hose and hold it high enough to get all the gas that I just paid for in my tank. Only, the last gas station I tried that at, they told me not to come back anymore.

This guy caming running out yelling at me in Arabic. I swear he just got off his camel to lash out at me, just for trying to get the rest of my gas that remained in the hose and that I already paid to have.

"Fuck off, Akmar," I said. "Either you reimburse me for the quart of gas that's still in the hose or I'm going to get what's mine."

That's when he told me in English that he was going to get his camel to shit on my head. Now, I never had a camel shit on my head before, but those beasts are big and I could only imagine the size of their dump. So, I left.

Ah, I feel better getting that off my chest.

Thanks, Laurel for posting my story first.

Ralphie, try pulling in on the wrong side of the pump next time, pull the hose thingy over the top of the car and stretch out the hose. I've done it many times, cuz I forget I have a foreign car now. Duh! Hey, I get all that I can. Pumping gas is one chore that I don't have to use a ladder for.:D

Congrats on your story post! You've made it to the top!

Let's call a spade a spade, okay?

No one in their right mind calls a Ferrari a foreign car. Your Ferrari is so small that you don't have to worry which side to pump the gas.

In my next lifetime, I'm going to be a gay, Jewish man (with apologies to the gay, Jewish men). I'll have money enough to buy myself everything I want.

So, tell me, Babs. How is your rich Dr. Bill? Are you two still an item, or did you dump him for another rich lover?

Little Ralphie, I plan to read one of your edited contest entries. Which one do you think is the best?

“BEST!!!! EDITED!!! That's the funniest thing I've ever read!”

“I know! And of course they don’t call him little ralphie for nothing!”

“You mean…”

“Short stories … short …”

"Well that's not surprising! Anyway, forget about him and his amateur efforts. Let's read a story by one of the greats."

"Jim?"

"Of course Jim! One Scourian tale is worth fifty of these awful, unedited, unerotic failures."

"He makes me sooooo hot!"
