Nude Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

Nifty that you managed to take that photo without showing where you were holding the cell phone. Think you probably could give former congressman Weiner a lesson in self-photography. :)

Ah, red H's. …the only reason why I have any red H's at all is by turning off the voting before the bashers erase them. Does that answer your question?

No it doesn’t! What possible comfort can 3 or 4 red H’s be when you know you haven’t earned them? Simply voting your ALTS - giving your own stories 5’s and then turning off the voting accomplishes what exactly? Are you able to fool yourself? Do you forget how they were earned? I sorry ralphie but it’s up to the readers to award H’s – not the author of the story.

Now about me not editing and/or reading over my stories… I spend hours writing, developing, reading, rereading, and editing my stories.

God man the above must have been a tough line to write! Even you must have choked as you typed the words. Whatever your strengths or weaknesses as a writer are, I think we all know that rereading and editing of your stories is not one of your strengths.

I got through 4 long, long, meandering paragraphs of your first contest story yesterday before I clicked away. You had written enough words for an average ralphie story by then (800?) and I was shaking my head in despair. Take it down and send the fucking thing to ace – it needs an editor. And no I didn’t vote for it – I felt it would be best to leave the scoring to the reading public.

I only write contest stories.Yes, of course, most writers write one or two contest stories, so why do I write 20 or 30 contest stories? Because I can… Writing stories is my way of growing and developing my writing skills. you're missing the whole point of having such a valuable venue as is Literotica to display your thoughts.

Unfortunately the same aimless drivel about your love of writing and how you love LITEROTICA.

“Because you can”? Is that the best you can do? Why not be honest for once? Hell you’re supposed to be a man. You enter all these stories in themed contests and not through regular channels because you’re a bitter old man and you want to get back at all the people you perceive as having hurt you in the past. You can’t win the SURVIVOR contest so you decide to fuck up the THEMED contests.

And that shows you LOVE LITEROTICA? C’mon! All it shows ralphie is that all you’re capable of is childish piques and temper tantrums. Grow up! Give us your best shot and then put the rest of the SURVIVOR crap in the regular line.

ace out biking on nude day?

So, if your story has five Lit. pages, and a reader reads the whole story, doesn't that register as one view or five?

Someone, such as Scouries … could sit at his keyboard and increase his reads and his place on the all time chart by clicking on his story for hours

And here I’d ignored you for over 36 hours!

The reality with regard to VIEWS is as follows:

1) Every time a story is clicked open the stories VIEW count goes up by 5-10 views. The multiplier is applied randomly - not only by day of the week or time of the day but by category also (e.g. an Incest story may get 8 ‘views’ for every click open on Tuesday while a Romance one gets 6. The next day it might be just the opposite).

2)If the reader goes on to the second page the VIEW count goes up by one less than it went up for the first page. If the third page is opened the story gets 2 less VIEWS than the first page got ( i.e. a 7 page gay story that came out on May 13th would have got 5 VIEWS for page 1, 4 for page 2, 3 for page 3, 2 for page 4, 1 for page 5 and -1 for page 6 which equals 14 total VIEWS if every page was opened.

3) Stories whose titles start with this mark – “ – have their VIEWS doubled.

4) Stories that start with a numeric – i.e. 425 Literotica Street – get triple VIEWS. Recently the site has started to reject most stories that start like this.

5) There are ‘bonus’ VIEWS awarded according to a complicated formula. Generally speaking, ‘favorited’ authors benefit from these bonuses more than lesser lights.

So why are the VIEW totals inflated anyway? Well, quite frankly it’s because LITEROTICA conducted a psychological survey of submitting authors some years ago and found some perhaps not surprising results. Authors are very needy! But they are very, very fragile.

So they conducted a field test in 2001. They inflated the actual VIEWS of the stories of a randomly chosen one third of the authors 1000% while leaving the rest at the real totals.

Guess what happened? Pretty easy to guess actually. Those whose totals had been artificially inflated started submitting many more stories than the group whose totals hadn’t been inflated. Like five times as many!

The results were so dramatic that MANU stopped the test after only a few months and reprogrammed the LITEROTICA computers to inflate everyone’s VIEWS. WTF- MORE STORIES FOR THE SITE AND MORE HAPPY AUTHORS. It was a win – win deal.

Sounds like a man with sore thumbs from strumming his own view buttons. :D

I'm having a helluva start and want to thank all that voted, faved, and commented. Can't wait to read the rest of the entries.

Thank you so much SweetWitch! I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Your Magicicada story was creative and fun! However, I was rooting for the fae...until... *LOL*

Were you writing it as you posted about the magicicada inundation? Or did the collecting you were doing for Stella help prompt the inspiration? ;)

My story is doing well. :) The feedback and personal stories of growth and healing that people are opening up to and sharing with me are amazing.

I just got the highest honor today! A Literature professor who I had in college read my story and told me that she may use it in her Disability and Literature Class. WOW!!! I told her I would be beyond honored if she shared it with her students.

When I was taking her class, she shared my essay on "living with an invisible disability" (in regards to Fibromyalgia) and link to my college blog with the Disability Studies Department at Temple University. She was a wonderful professor and I was so fortunate that my college was so progressive when it came to advocation, and that I had the opportunity to take a course with her. Her adorable and quirky service dog endeared people to her classes too. *hehe*

So cool!

If I can talk my muse into cooperating, I will be entering the contest and, at risk of incurring the wrath of Scouries, I will have three entries. My muse, the bitch, is down at some local bar trying to pick up sailors, leaving me to struggle with the writing by myself.

When she does sober up and returns, I will be entering an essay which is right on about the contest, and it will contend for the Last Place (tm) award. The two stories, which are only marginally about nudity, will probably do much better.

This can be proven untrue based on your first point, because if you keep refreshing your story view page, the views sometime go up by only 1 or 2 in the course of a period of time.

There's a much simpler way to prove that something scouries says is false:

He said it.

And, that is one of the few things I've been able to determine for certain. Simply refreshing the first page does not result in 1 view per click. There are ways around it, of course ( as scouries well knows with his collection of fraudulent numbers ) but simple refreshing of the page won't do it.

I do the balk of my summertime writing outside in my Fortress of Solitude. At the time I started the story, the cicadas were so loud, I had to wear ear plugs. It was very distracting. I must have started at least a half-dozen different stories with cicadas making a surprise appearance in each. Finally, I decided to write about the little critters. It was the only way.

I'm glad you liked it. It was fun to write--and the faerie had to learn a lesson.

Yes, yes he did. Well, yay for the cicada inspiration! I'm just thankful for the aide they lended me a few years ago. I'm convinced it was fae who caught me on the precipice and nudged me back up the stairs, protecting us both. I need a Fortress of Solitude...ah maybe one day. :)

I had to build it myself--and they said it couldn't be done. :D

I'd love to hear the details of it (or see a pic?) Nice! Want something done, do it yourself, especially if you are handy enough for it. :)

Decided to go ahead and post a second story. I submitted it a little while ago. It's under Romance if the bosses don't change it. It's one of those multi-category stories. It's titled "What To Do?" First story is getting a lot of view and votes. Score is so-so but it is Loving Wives. LOL
Good luck all
With respect

Truly, I don't understand how some stories take off, while other stories languish.

My Siblings Get Naked for Nude Day, albeit an incest story with other incest stories I've written not having done as well, has nearly 80,000 hits and 1,000 votes.

Granted, I've had stories with more hits and votes, but never a story that has amassed so many votes in a such a short period of time, little more than 24 hours. Wow.

Sometimes this site is a rollercoaster ride. The stories that I love and think will do well, don't, and the ones that I think will fail, go wild.

Go figure.

Probably scouries taking you for another ride. This has happened to at least one story in the last three or four contests.

He has to do something with all the fake IPs that Manu has caught on to. Use them to pump up some story, knowing that not a damn one of them will stick. Don't be surprised to lose more than half of those votes.

Probably so he can come here and rant about how you're actually the one doing it, then point at the sweeps ( which he constantly decries ) as proof. Reversing the strategy he's used the last several times -- attacking the sweeps.

Gees, Dark, thanks for your vote of support that I could have a runaway story (lol) without the maniupulation of Scouries.

The proof will be after the sweeps to see how many votes I'll have left.

In the meantime, allow me to pretend (lol).

Voting & Judging

So the winners of this contest are determined by voting score, correct? Highest voting average wins first place, second highest wins second, etc? Or is there some other criteria for the contest?

Apologies if this has been asked like twenty times before or something. I just want to make sure I understand how this is done. I see that one needs at least 25 votes for a story to be eligible, but I'm not sure where it says who actually wins and/or how that's determined.

Unfortunately, this is not a writing contest. This is a popularity contest. The writer with the most friends wins the contest.

The contests here have nothing to do with talent. They have nothing to do with drafting the best story. All you need to do to win is to make sure that all your friends and family vote for your story. That's it.

Instead of readers picking the most popular winner, I'd rather see a panel of judges mixed with the popular vote, so that the best story wins, instead of the most popular writer.

Yet, such is life.

And now for an actual answer . . . yes, you are correct, the winners are based on score and score alone, assuming you have twenty-five votes after the sweeps.
