California Governor Gavin Newsom earned praise from Latino politicians for nominating Secretary of State Alex Padilla (D) to replace Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) as she takes office as Vice President — but also earned criticism from black leaders.

ABC affiliate KGO in San Francisco quoted the Latino Community Foundation: “We’re just so glad Gov. Newsom made a historic pick because one of our own is going to the senate to fight not just for the Latino community but for all of us.”

However, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, the first black woman to hold that post, said: “”This is a real blow to the African American community, to African American women, to women in general.” She had been a candidate for the post, along with Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), whom some had considered an outside candidate to be Joe Biden’s running mate.

”This is a real blow to the African American community, to African American women, to women in general.”

Dumb as fuck considering a black woman just left that post.

Also, STFU miles.

Replacing Harris with a member of the Latino community is a good idea. A gay man would have been ideal but either/or. To have a Latino Representative in the Senate is one giant step closer to having a Latino woman there. I'm all for diversity.

:)

Why?

What about being gay, Latino or a woman makes someone an ideal senator??

What exactly about that skin color, sexual orientation and genital combo makes a superior legislator??

Sound ultra racist and sexist to me.

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Catherine Cortez Masto has spent her career fighting for Nevada’s working families. She served two terms as Attorney General of Nevada and in November 2016, she made history by becoming the first woman from Nevada and the first Latina ever elected to the United States Senate.

Are you arguing that one Latina in the Senate is enough?

And yes, of course there were going to be complaints from all groups to whom Newsom's pick didn't belong. Wishful thinking from the right notwithstanding, it's not going to drive African-American voters to the Republicans.

Note Harris is the deciding vote in the Senate. I think that community is happy
40% of California(?) happy with Latino presence!
Go start trouble elsewhere
