New UK Thread

On the walk I passed a gentleman who was providing street art and decoration for the many roller shutters. He said hello and apologised for the fumes. I doubt it was Banksy as am not sure Banksy paints big weed leaves.
I thought that all happened by magic as I’ve never seen anyone doing it.

Cost! Manual is cheaper, or at least it was years ago.
... and better mpg. Our devil diesel VW managed 70mpg on a 240 m journey yesterday... assuming you believe VWs computer of course!

There are plenty of official street art events these days. I know they're not fine art and to everyone's taste but they do break up the otherwise grey urban scene. Isn't Banksy a woman anyway?

All i know about Banksy is the street art.

Usually the only people I see are doing the stride of pride

My recent Skoda Suberb (Company car, that I had no choice in) regularly does in excess of 60 MPG, with a boot full of tools and gear. With a full tank of fuel it reports a range of 850 miles. It does cost a fortune to fill up but not very often.

I've heard there was a fuel shortage years ago and the govt said the speed limit was 50?60? and that saved a fuckton of fuel. We've noticed more people driving at 70 on the Mways and we get great economy that way too.

I have a Volvo V70. The last time I filled it up, at the cheapest local garage, it cost £105.

LOL, you youngsters haven't lived, the 60 limit went to 50 on main roads and motorways went from 70 to 60. As I drive a company car and I have no incentive to save fuel my cruise control is generally set to 80. Stuck in slow traffic the MPG noticeably goes up.

Ah, yes. It has always been thus. Ask Mr Toad :D

Youngsters? I started driving when there were NO maximum speed limits at all (except in built-up areas) but my first vehicles weren't fast enough to bother anyone.

Later, when the 70 mph max on dual carriageways was introduced, I was stopped on the Honiton by-pass at 3 am doing 113 mph and pulling away from the police sports car I couldn't see in my rearview mirror.

Car insurance renewal.

I had automatic renewal on my car insurance. I was advised it would cost £20 more than last year. I went to Direct Line (about £70 less) and Go Compare. Quotes from companies I recognised were about £120 cheaper for the same cover.

I telephoned the current company to cancel the automatic renewal. They dropped their quote by £100!

I stayed with them. The small difference isn't worth the hassle of changing companies.

I'm wondering if the new FCA rules will make a difference. Insurers now have to renew at the price they offer new customers. I imagine they will just alter their terms for new customer sufficiently to say they are not comparable.

We now have a new government. All pesky problems will be solved by the end of the month. (Or the month after.) :)

Crikey that's expensive. I have a diesel pickup but never fill it up.
And get a free window washing for from the attendant whom pumps my fuel. I do tip them though as I'm not a tight wad.

Ma'am has left the building :(
she served the country far far longer than most; for all the pomp and wealth and privilege, there were endless dinners and meetings with political and royal heads of state, public appearances, and so much of her personal life under the microscope. The girl done good.

Good health to King Charles; given British politicians, a president as head of state? nuh huh

True - all those complete fuckwits she had to be polite to

Oh I doubt she was afraid to speak her mind in public. What pm is gonna come out and say the queen just called me a cunt or sum such.
And the conversation was between the two of them was private.

So god save the king.
Money is gonna change
So will the stamps
And now cause we have a new king I think it's in the rules we have to invade France and take it back.

I wondered today if the refugee smugglers could make a round trip and take desperate UK citizens over to France
