New UK Thread

I have both. It's become so complicated. I remember when it so simple 60 or 100 watt bayonet or nothing. Now you can spend a whole day trying to work out what you need.
G4 G11 GU10 H4 to name a few, do you want that in lumens or watts, what colour temperature would you like, will they be dimmable, full colour changing, controllable via the internet? Did I miss anything?

The voltages. Some of my light bulbs are small plug-in types. Some are 240 volts; some are 50 volts. The 240 volts in a 50-volt fitting are dim. the 50 volt in a 240 volt fitting blow in a second...

Agreed but I am fussy about light quality and colour. My uncle was an early adopter of the old low wattage lamps and his kitchen was like a gloomy green tinged nightmare that made me nauseous. Cold LEDs are also shit and especially offensive in modern cars like the fucking Mini or Range Rovers up your ass.
Sitting rooms need warm light, but specular so they throw pools of light not a fuzzy blur. I'd better stop there... it's a pet subject and I can go on for hours.

So...you

dont want..."the big light" putting on.
The big light spoils the mood.Like in a cinema when the films finished and the big lights come on.
Theres always a low guttural groan from the audience.

Guttural groans?! I don't watch those kinds of films - was it in Amsterdam?

you need good lighting in a kitchen, but ambient lighting for other rooms

when the lights go down in the cinema, you mentally slip into that state of heightened anticipation, a willingness to embrace the 'magic'... as the credits roll and the lights are still low, you're still a part of the experience. Soon as those lights go up, the mood's broken, everyday reality returns.

a BIG difference between parties i went to in the UK and parties here in the US is lighting: Americans' norm for a party is well-lit room with ADDITIONAL lighting! It totally lacks the intimacy of darker rooms with loud music to dance to and all manner of coloured lights.

Interesting to read the headline that Cressida Dick felt 'intimidated' into resigning, suggesting her shambolic handling of pretty much everything she touched hadn't registered with her. Maybe she attended the same Integrity classes as Boris?

Boris far exceeded my expectations.

Well BJ will be gone on Tuesday. Then we get lizzie. What has happened to thin the political gene pool?

Still lizzie will get her dream job and we will see that it is possible to be worse than BJ

I thought Italian politics was bad but we really seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel. The country needs a Winston Churchill character in its hour of need but I’m not sure we have one lying around anywhere.

How is half the population going to be able stay warm this winter. But really is it that big of an issue when you see the strife and suffering in the floods in Pakistan. There appears to be a new inland sea.

Well a good hard winter will reduce the pension costs and the welfare bill.
It will put a huge strain on the nhs which will see it collapse.
Then they get dearest wish to break it up and sell it.
The floods are horrific.

The NHS is being broken up by stealth mode anyway. As someone who works within the NHS but is not employed by them and who is married to someone who is employed by the NHS it is very noticeable the sneaky way that certain departments are run and operated by external companies. The break up is work in progress.

Cra Hire.

My daughter has hired a car for a week. She wanted an automatic. The local car hire firm had only one. I can't see that happening in the US.

I've never understood the British obsession with manual gearboxes.

In the past, say a decade ago, manual gearboxes meant better fuel consumption - if they were driven carefully.

Now? Most automatics will provide better fuel consumption than most drivers.

But we are slow to adapt.

I'm awake. I should be asleep. It's far too early to get up. I thought that I should share this with you. :)

I’m awake, and should be asleep. It’s not as early as @KinoKe but there is no way in hell that I’m getting up. 😂 I’m sure you all wanted to know that 😂

On the walk I passed a gentleman who was providing street art and decoration for the many roller shutters. He said hello and apologised for the fumes. I doubt it was Banksy as am not sure Banksy paints big weed leaves.
