New UK Thread

As close as I'll get to that is the Toby Carvery and I may just go there tomorrow. It will be a nice change from fish and chips by the sea.
Fish and chips by the sea.... using the tiny 2 prong wooden fork while watching for dive-bombing seagulls.

Heavy on the vinegar and extra batter scraps on the side please.

Yes Sunday lunch waited till Dad came back from the pub. round about 1:00pm
The pub was never a feature in our lives thankfully. My parents invested the little money they had in our education. They are both my heroes 🥰

Whenever the London part of my family visit, one meal has to be Fish and Chips. We have to keep a stock of chip shop vinegar (not genuine vinegar but a chemical product) for the authentic taste.

Aah yes, real vinegar that seeped through the newspaper and stained your clothes as you carried them home under your arm.

Fish and chips must be nearly 3 pounds by now I guess....that's without a pickled egg though.
Close enough to £10 atm and £2 for mushy peas and not far short for a pickled egg. The sooner we nuke Russia the better, not only are they getting blamed for gas but the shortage white fish too 🤣. Not sure what role they play in mushy pease and pickled eggs though ....

10 f******* pounds for fish and chips! (Sorry)
That adds up to nearly 30 quid to take the woman of your dreams for a good night out.

Sharing a fish supper and a couple of half ciders...a quick dance.
Smuggling a few (2) cans of red stripe lager ..

You might find that the modern British ladies will want to pay their own way or, shock! horror! treat their male chaperones to the entire evening 😂😘

Fish and chips price? We have so many Fish and Chip outlets that they complete on price. £5 is more normal or £3.50 for an OAP or child's small portion.

But at home? We have fish freshly caught from the sea, filleted by my wife, a trained fishmonger, and cooked at home. Fish cost? Nil. Chips? A pound or so.

I can't remember when we last bought fish and chips. We buy fresh fish and her indoors makes a brilliantly crispy Japanese-style batter. I am given the onerous task of preparing the chips and the mushy peas. :D

Talking to a customer the other day, the chippy near him are charging £11.50 for fish and chips

As soon as you mentioned a fishmonger, my thoughts went to winkles.. the salty ones that needed a pin to get them out. Not whelks which are more rubbery I find.
When I was last in the UK 2008, l bought 2 bags from the fish market in Newcastle. Great memories!
