Thanks to everyone for your prayers and well wishes for my Mom as she went through her quadruple bypass surgery yesterday. Her surgery went great, lasting approximately 4 1/2 hours (Although it seemed to last MUCH longer in my mind. lol)

She was very responsive fairly quickly after surgery and made it VERY obvious that she hated the respirator and drain tube going down her throat. LOL. They removed that about 9:00 last night and she seemed much happier after that. She nodded in response to all of our questions.

She was up and walking a bit today (Dr.s orders :)) It was great talking to her. (And listening to her bitch about how she wishes they would quit bringing her that nasty Ensure shit to drink. LOL!!)

The only problem the Surgeon told us he saw was her heart was extreemly enlarged (Due to years of not properly caring for her health, B/P, eating habits, smoking, etc...) and that her lungs were severely damaged from so many years of ciggarette smoking. (She quit smoking in January of 2000 after 30+ years of being a smoker.) She has a long road of lifestyle changes and healing ahead of her, but she's young (56) and with all of the family and friends standing behind her and nagging her making sure she takes care of herself, she should do just fine! :D

Thanks again everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes, emails and PM's. (((HUGS)))

woowoo!

Vilac pretty much summed it up. Still a long road to travel, but you'll get the opportunity to travel it together. :)

Keeping the good thoughts going here.

wonderful!

Mystic,

I think that is wonderful your mom's surgery went well and
she is up and about......I know all about that Ensure stuff,
because one of my residents had to be on that for a while!

It will be a long while for healing, but I believe your mom
added more years to her life by quitting smoking when
she did......it is hard to quit....my father quit last year in
May (he was part of a study at Yale w/ this experimental
drug and "patch" combo to help quit smoking) and its
going to be a year very soon and he has not even attempted
to smoke at all. I think your mom is very lucky to have
a daughter like you for support, and also other family
and friends!

Best wishes to your mom, and blessings for a healthy
future! :)

MysticSwing,

Hugs to you and your Mom on the great news. It will take time for the healing process to do its job, but now you can breathe a sigh of relief. As you wrote, with everyone on her side and all of the help and guidance, your Mom will be great and better than ever.

I'm thrilled for you and your family that you will know the goodness and love of your Mom for a long time to come. Best of luck and much happiness to you all.

That's wonderful news, Mystic!
I pray for continued healing blessings. :)

WHEW!!! I feel better now!

My mind kept telling me that heart surgery was safer all the time. At least much more so than 30 years ago!
I'm sure you did also, but like you my heart wins in cases like this!

Give mom a wink and a smile from me!

Good, good, good.

I am happy for you and your mother.

Now, the work really starts. Your going to have to keep on her about eating right, and walking. She is going to be wiped out for some time to come. But not forever.

When she is up and about get her out and walking, a little each day. I don't know if you leave near by or far away. If it is near by you can take her shopping. Take a wheelchair, let her ride, but also encourage her to walk some.

If your far away, get on the phone, and keep after her. Bypasses are great things. Thank God. By bypasses can also plug up. It isn't the cure all or end all.

Take some time for yourself today. Get away for a bit, go have lunch or something. Be happy. Smile.

I am happy for the both of you.

Mystic, so happy to hear that all went well for your mother. Take some time for yourself as she is recovering. You need it. And when your mother is on her feet again, enjoy her as much as you can. Times like these make us understand how fragile life can be.

I hope that you are doing well, as well as she is. Thanks for letting us know that she is fine.

Glad to hear the surgery went well. In time, I am sure she will be fine. I will continue keeping your mother in my thoughts.

That is excellent news! My Brother is mending fine after his openheart. I am suprised at the advancement in surgery/recovery technologies! What has struck me the most about my Bro is his mental changes. He is aware of his mortality, and he and his wife our going to slow down, maybe sell their expensive house, and enjoy themselves.
I hope and pray that your Mom does excellent in her recovery, and start her swimming as fast as possible to get those lungs in shape! :D :rose:
