In one of those moments of synchronicity, the above song was playing on the radio at one of my stops today. Across the street, a mom was trying to teach her young daughter how to ride a bicycle. She was pushing the girl on the bike, almost chanting "Pedal! Pedal!"

And perhaps because my mind was primed for homophones, the gears and cranks of my old noggin started turning.

Did she want the girl to make the bike move? (pedal) To make it sell? (peddle) Or just to make it pretty? (petal)

Which led to thinking whether or not it's a weather vane, a punctured vein or maybe you're just so vain.

We don't make this language thing easy, do we?
