Update from Fairysong:
Moonie's cold turned out to be much worse. By the end of the day she complained of bad headaches(which I thought was an after effect from the brain injury), stiff neck.. she said it hurt to bend her head. Later that night she has a high fever, the light was hurting her eyes and she was throwing up. They suspected Meningitis and immediately ordered for tests to be done.
They did a procedure called a spinal tap to check the fluid there for infection. The fluid came out cloudy. It is supposed to be clear in a healthy person. They sent the sample fluid in for culture then began a course of antibiotics asap. It takes 2 days for the results to come out and it is too long to wait without treatment. The CSF fluid was sent for examination of white blood cell, red blood cell, glucose , protein, Gram stain, culture , and possibly latex agglutination test, limulus lysates, or PCR for bacterial DNA. There are 2 main types of Meningitis Viral and Bacterial. There is no medication to cure the viral but the viral meningitis is not life threatening and goes away on its own in a few days. Bacterial Meningitis is very serious and can be life threatening. The chances are high that she has bacterial meningitis because she is a brain injury patient. Many patients with severe brain injury develop this illness.
Please keep the prayers coming. I will check my emails so if there is anything to pass on let me know.
hugs,
Fairysong
