Moonlight Elf

If anyone needs to know of the quality of Moonie, the fact that she herself is in rehab and yet she finds the strength and time to read to children in the hospital should answer the question.

Go, Moonie, go!
Absolutely agree :rose:

Good news about Moonie getting better. :)

Her taking time to help others and bring some joy into their lives when she herself needs help just makes me proud to know her.

Way to go Moonie!

Too bad about all those med bills, but they should be taken care of by the slug that hit them. I don't recall, and I'm too lazy to look back in the thread, but did the guy have insurance? If not then sue the bastard!

Hey Abs.

Things here have been very busy. Now that she's out of the medical unit and in the rehab floor they sent out the first medical bills. Brother has contacted a social worker and is trying to make arrangements for the payments. He also has to make plans to pay for the rehab. Inpatient rehab costs a lot but she isn't independent enough to be able to move back home.
Their parents have finally worked things out with immigration and will be coming in shortly(2 weeks with visa and all). Brother's hoping that once his parents are home he can request an out patient rehab for Moonie. She gets frustrated being cooped up in the hospital.

She's doing pretty good overall. Her therapists are happy with her progress. They say she's a very easy patient to work with. She has become quite famous around there. She spends 5 to 6 hours a day doing rebah. Naps quite a bit but when she's up she has managed to talk her nurse to take her to the childrens ward. She's made a habit of reading to the kids there. She smiles and says it speech therapy for her and fun therapy for the kids.

I've been keeping an eye on lil brother to make sure he eats right and sleeps. Can't have both of them in the hospital. I'll tell them. Also, I'll try to stop on lit sometime this week to update. Bother lost internet connection at his place but it should be back up soon.

Say hi to everyone for us.

Fairysong.

Glad to hear she's recovering well

The slug that hit them had minimal insurance coverage. His insurance is paying but it will not even begin to cover the medical costs.

Then as they used to say in the old days...

"Hang him by his petards until he pays!"

I hear Lawyers calling. . .

Good luck with everything Moonie.:rose:

(I know of a great Lawyer here on Lit. :) ) *hugs*

Not sure yet how things will go but I'll say that Moon Brother is working on it.
I think the social worker from the hospital has some lawyer contacts for them.

Thanks Red

You're welcome.

I know it will be hard, but it is their best interest to get someone to help them. :rose: I am so glad you are able to be with them through this. *hugs*

Some insurance policies have an uninsured or underinsured motorist clause. If the policy holder is hospitalized by a driver without insurance, the injured party's insurance will pick up the difference. Could Moonie have something like that?

So glad to hear about Moonie's continuing recovery. :rose:

In regard to the medical bills, there are social service agencies that act as intermediaries between the hospital and the patient if rembursement becomes a problem.

A lawyer will also take on a case like this, often pro bono, if the client is of low or moderate income. These are alternatives they may wish to consider.

That's our Moonelf!

Happy to hear the good news...sorry to hear the money thing though...but glad there's a pleasant result from it's spending.

It's never a straight run, there's always something to slow things down. So glad to hear the forward progress is beating the slow stuff. Reading to the kids brings tears to my eyes. So rare that someone thinks of others in their time of adversity.
I haven't met you yet, elf, but you're definitely a special soul.
