Men what are you doing to help relieve your symptoms from BPH an enlarged prostate? Are you taking medications or using natural herbs and vitamins? What works for you?

I am presently taking a product from the internet. I think it's basically an iodine solution, it tastes bitter. I think it helps when I remember to take it. BUT to be fair, my symptoms were intermittent to begin with. So it doesn't prove anything. On the objective/ quantifiable side, I never sleep less that six hours now before I get up to pee. I used to get up once in the middle of each night. Now if I wake up I just roll over and go back to sleep.

Yes pumpkin seed and saw palmetto are excellent supplements also I would add lycopene, Beta Sitosterol and another great herb which fights prostate cancer is Quercetin. Look those up they really help BPH and protect from prostate cancer. All of the above also block DHT which enlarges the prostate.

My PSA numbers have declined or stable after taking the prescription called Hytrin. I have been on this medicine for about 20 years and things have been stable. It also helps with my blood pressure.

BTW - I read that lots of sex helps with BPH. I use that information as much as possible with my lady friend.

I have noticed that within a few minutes after an ejaculation I can pee a normal stream and it feels like I'm pretty much emptying my bladder. But in an hour or two I'm back to normal BPH symptoms. I guess I would revert to normal all the time if I could orgasm every hour or so, but that's not very likely, LOL.

Anyone else notice this?

5mg daily of Tadalafill (Cialis) helps mitigate symptoms. Be sure to find a capable well informed urologist. Personally, I would stick with evidence based medication before going the supplement route. The problem with supplements is no efficacy or safety data plus what is listed on the label often isn’t what’s in the jar or is of a different potency. Plus, it can interfere with other medication’s like statins and blood pressure medication. If you do take supplements, make sure your urologist and primary care physician know exactly what to avoid interaction problems.

Supplements often seem like a safer, cheaper, "more natural" way to treat a condition. ..But in truth they can cause tremendous problems. They aren't closely regulated so there is little assurance of quality and consistency from one bottle of pills (or whatever) to the next. AND there's no requirement of demonstrable positive impact on a given condition/ disease.

Me too, my PCP prescribed it. Really expensive if you use it every day, but there is the added benefit of a better erection if you have a partner to use it on. I was referred to a urologist who prescribed Tamsulosin because he said it was more effective for BPH, and way cheaper (but without the ED benefit). I've been on that for a few years and I can sleep through the night if I haven't had much liquid in the hour or two before bedtime. It does seem to have slowed down my semen production though, because my ejaculations are much smaller now. Oh well ...

Saw palmetto. I have seen quercetin mentioned for the immune system, but I didn't know it's an herb I can find on a shelf. I avoid prescriptions, because doctor's appointments are worse than BPH.
