Slips into the thread, reading the few overnight posts I may have missed. This morning's topic is about motivations of posting. The way I see it there are two major reasons people post, one is the share their viewpoint on something, the other is to have someone respond to them. Some, obviously, try for both. I'm sure the PC response is That people post to share their views, but deep down I think we all want to be noticed and that's ultimately the driver.

It's nice to get to know people better by reading their thoughts and opinions on subjects.....heck, if we didn't do that, what else would we do......just throw random naked pictures at someone to get noticed? What fun is that? ;)

I think most people would like their opinions atleast validated. It's good to get a response when you feel your post was valid.
I think all of us would be lying if we said we didn't want to be noticed to some extent. Some more than others. There are people who flit in and out of Lit and always seem to have something worthwhile to say and are noticed. Then others who need continual reassurance that they are 'wanted' and will post over and over in the popularity threads.
Everyone is different some people may be lacking the attention they get here in real life. Others post for fun. Some post to be controversial.
But I think we all post for some kind of attention. I love to see others view points it makes for a good debate or conversation.

What SmileyGurrrrl said.

I post because Imma attention whore & I wanna mess with peoples...in a nonthreatening manner, of course. ;)

I also post so SmileyGurrrl & I can be partners in crime. :D

Sometimes I post hints for a certain person. It really depends on the thread. If it's a thread on a specific issue or topic, then I really may just want to give my opinion. I hope people notice it for the enlightened, progressive, makes-you-think opinion that it is. :) I honestly don't really know if my posts in certain areas get "noticed". Perhaps they are read.

I was more thinking of Eric Cartman from South Park. My favorite!!

Whateva! Whateva! I do what I want.

Ah... you've called me out there! I do have a deep desire to be noticed (in a good way!) and I often struggle to achieve that (at least, in real life). I'm constrained by the need to adhere to social norms and an inner voice that warns me not to show off.

With that in mind, a forum is quite a useful platform for me, as it offers me an opportunity to interact thoughtfully on an equal basis (or, at least, on a more level playing field than a real-life gathering where the pushiest or loudest person often "wins").

I am genuinely interested in sharing views with other people, and in broadening my own. I also like to have fun with a wider circle of friends than I could muster in real life. I think this forum serves both purposes fairly well.
.

I always read a person's profile before responding. I like to get a complete picture of a person, through their posts and the profile. What's funny is how often the two are completely different. What we want people to believe about us (the profile) is sometimes completely different than what they learn through our responses (the threads).

LOL me too!

Yes. It is the "social" part in social media. We all crave contact with other human beings. Posting on a BBS is one way to make that contact. Recognition. Acknowledgement. Confirmation. Affirmation. We like to share our opinions and view and stories with other people - and it is always nice to have them acknowledged and appreciated.

I've always been struck by the curious phenomena of loners or "lone wolves" on social media sites. "I don't need anyone." Uh, then why are you posting the fact you don't need anyone on a social media website? I love being human, we're so full of BS.

Sometimes I post just to let my fellow Litsters know that I'm still alive. :cattail:

I generally post because:

a) I'm bored and/or practicing task avoidance
b) I want to give pmann shit/love etc.
c) I have something to say to someone/about something
d) I want to know what someone looks like

I've often toyed with the idea of posting in ampics for the attention/exhibitionist factor but then I always decide I'd rather no attention than leg humping.

Here's how I got around that. Because okay, I sometimes like to take pictures of moi. And showing them off...because sometime that's what I feel. So...that there is probably the biggest reason I took my PMs off. No more leg humping. Leg humping is way down if a humper has to do so in public. Public humping shows everyone how bad their game is, so they don't. So I put up naughty Avs when the mood strikes, or post selfies in a boob thread. Most peeps have been nothing but courteous.

I post in order to help distract myself from the inevitable necessity of acknowledging the meaningless void and ultimately fruitless endeavor that is the universe and to postpone for even five more minutes coming to terms with my soulless, painful existence.

Oh, and because titties.

I asked myself why I post and I could mention several reasons. Thinking about it they all come down to one thing. We are humans. We need to communicate, to socialize even online. And that involves our need to provide or seek information, our need to persuade, to even express emotions (if any). And group dynamics offer a nice foundation.

Friday. Yes! If it were only Friday night ;)

Exclusivity. I don't think there is very much of that here in Lit. Even in relationships where it is professed, I still think there's action on the side. And my hunch is that it's more prevalent here than in RL. Is that because online just makes it easier to be with multiple partners or is it the type of oerson drawn to Lit is also the type to have multiple partners anyway?

The 'type' of person is an interesting concept because I feel it is split right down the middle, 50/50. There is pretty much an even split between introverts and extroverts here. Not that there is anything wrong with introverts (I suggest Quiet by Susan Cain) but some seek attention and others do not. The battle the quiet ones face is how to be noticed without being noticed.

I think I am more exclusive online than in real life. But that depends on what you see as "partners". Fuck buddies, emotional involvement? Something else?
If I find somebody worth getting involved with then I think they are worth of my full attention. So if I chat with one person I dont want to have to switch mindset and attention to others. But that, again, depends on the nature of the chat. I am not very keen on small talk tho.

If I agree to have an exclusive partner then I would not look elsewhere. That doesnt mean I wouldnt have friends who I still talk to, but i wouldnt expect him to stop posting either.
