So, I saw a post I thought I would reply to and then noticed that the thread OP was someone I am a bit suspicious of so I didn't post. How many of you take the OP or the previous poster into consideration before you reply?

Yeah, I definitely take that into consideration.

I think I look mostly at the flow of the posts. I ignore the "hello I'm horny" personals and really only look at threads that have a lot of folks replying; there might be something of interest going on. In the playground I try not to interrupt folks if they have something going on; but if it appears open to all then I'll contribute. It doesn't matter much here who the poster is, or the OP. I do enjoy this thread which welcomes thoughtful opinions, and fun too.

I take the OP, or the previous poster, into consideration before I post. Some people I prefer to simply not engage with. That decision is usually based on the past content of the poster.

If the OP or the poster is not someone I've seen before than I give them the benefit of the doubt. If that turns out to have been a mistake then I simply move on. I rarely, if ever, take into account what other people say about a poster. Instead, I rely on the behavior I witnessed directly to form a judgment of an individual. We shape our Internet experience in every moment by the conscious choices we make. Hell, that's half the fun.

The other half of the fun of course is the semi-random cock pictures.

I think there are three categories:
1) here everyday, weekend or weekday, makes no matter
2) weekdays only, tend to mostly chat during the day
3) weekends only, the work week is far too busy to get here until the weekend.
My Lit appearances are sporadic, regardless of weekdays and weekends. ;)

I can't think of many Litsters that I might actively avoid (although there are a few that I just ignore), so I don't usually take into account the identity of the OP or previous poster. The exception would be when I clearly smell a troll. As others said, I generally just go with the subject matter and the flow of the posts.

I sometimes do the opposite: if I see a newbie or someone who appears to be struggling to get noticed, then I might make an extra effort to think of something worthwhile to say to them. I don't do that as often as I'd like, though.

Happy Tuesday! The infamous profile. We assume many don't bother to read them. Some are quite vague, like mine, and some are essentially a Lit resume. I'm curious, after it's all said and done, how important is the profile? If we assume a large percent of Litsters don't read them, we don't bother to ever update our profiles, and if we are mysterious with their content, what's their value?

Hm, if they are empty they have no value other than that that person either was bored to fill it up thinking is not important or was intentionally trying to not open up and give a piece of writting. Now, when they do provide information they can sometimes helps you to have a first glance on someone..though its not an idiot-proof guide. Some are fun to read and smart..I smile at times reading some of them...since i am so bad at promoting myself.:D

Had one up at the beginning took it down...too many weirdos.

I always love it when you get a PM from a stranger saying "Loved your profile", when clearly they didn't bother.

Haha Thandi. That yes. Hilarious. ;):D

I love reading profiles. On the rare times that I've initiated a PM, it was due to something interesting in their profile.

I always read a person's profile before responding. I like to get a complete picture of a person, through their posts and the profile. What's funny is how often the two are completely different. What we want people to believe about us (the profile) is sometimes completely different than what they learn through our responses (the threads).

I check them out before I respond also.

i used to have a fully filled out and thoughtful profile.. I had an incident years ago, erased it and never put much back up. If someone hasn't figured me out by how I post on the board, and doesn't wish to write or respond to me... I'm fine with that. I get plenty of attention, and not all of it's bad. :)

Also, I like reading profiles but they don't really sway who I engage with via PM because I don't engage anyone really.

PS. I'm totally taking the piss, slinger. :p

Posting while yer on the toilet? Thats soooooo weird!! :)

I didn't see your post...I meant in general. :)

I always check out the profiles. If someone doesn't have much there, and their start date was yesterday, klaxons go off immediately.

There are some who constantly change their profiles. I enjoy that plus it gives insight to their current mood. I am guilty of not changing mine very much...something I can work on.

I understand why women would minimize their bios...too many drooling male idiots out there. But even providing something whimsical might help the rest of us glean a little of your personality.

I started a thread once called Guess Who because I thought it would encourage people to look at profiles and get to know other Litsters. You were supposed to post someones Profile Pic and others were to guess who it belonged to, which they would only know if they'd looked at profiles. It only got 150 posts before it died. It was not one of my better threads.

One of the first things that I did when I arrived on the Lit forum was to fill out my profile. I had read dire warnings that, if I failed to do that, then I would be ignored or not taken seriously. :D

My profile is rather dull and factual. I don't believe that anyone has chosen to contact me based on its contents alone. I saw it mostly as a way for Litsters to screen me quickly. That's why I created my two minute audio introduction as a way to expand on my flat text and to express my personality a bit more. I'm surprised that more Litsters haven't tried the same idea.

The profile is just one more piece of the puzzle. I don't think they're all that important. Most people's personalities come out quite easily with how they post. If I'm wondering what tone to read a post in, I sometimes check the profile.

Mine is more of a way for people who don't know me already to find out how to.contact me....but there isn't any identifying information in it.

I do read other profiles, sometimes to figure out if someone is male or female....and if they're a stick in the mud. Some people here are a bit......prickly lol

For the record, I miss Slinger's tongue pic ;-)

I have a profile, but I don't really care about profiles. I read it once I guess, but it has no bearing on whether I engage with them or not. The only exception is if someone says that they don’t want a specific kind of PMs. Then a part of me wants to send a PM to them doing that exact thing. I guess I’m a bit of a rebel. Only done it to a random person once though, guess I'm a well mannered rebel.

It was her signature that triggered it not the profile. I did it for my own amusement and titled it random PM and did the opposite what she asked me to. :D Even got a non-mad response. :)

I read profiles, especially if I've rec'ed a msg from someone I haven't "met" yet. I'll read the profile of a litster whose post has caught my eye, too.

Umm. I haven't read my profile lately, guess I should check it.
