Oh how I love a three day weekend. I'm curious, besides it being a National holiday in the States, and many of us not having to work, will you do something specific to honor the day? Or is just a day off and time to go do something fun?

Today is not a special day here, but next thursday is. It is, as most extra days for me, a combination of honoring, fun and often cooking a much more elaborate meal than usual except someone offers (a few days in advance please because said someone won't do the shopping) to barbecue. In which case I almost spent as much time in the kitchen as when I would cook an elaborate meal because someone has to make salads, sauces and garlic/herb butter.

Holiday here in the UK today....I don't really know what it is for, we have a lot in May!

Just did family stuff...was nice!

Nothing more than that!

its raining off and on here - so haven't don't much.
a trip to the dog park early.
working on the RV getting ready to move! 10 days...

Day off here in the UK: did a stack of washing; did some more revision; went for a long walk in the countryside; ironing; watched the Dambusters ( again - so weird that the Wing Cmdrs dog is called Nigger - how times have changed ) Early night. Voila!

Happy Tuesday, although it seems Monday-esque. How good is your bullshit detector? How do you weed out the pretender/players from the genuine types? I realize I am asking you to reveal trade secrets that my jeopardize your "detector" but I think it's one of the hardest things about lit.

Why does it matter?Don't you just suspend disbelief when you start to play and then if the relationship develops it does so because trust builds. Like in real life.

Although its easy to ignore the PMs out of the blue from people who have been here years and have zero posts but are immediately horn-dogging because they've just seen a picture I've posted or my profile and think that means I'm up for sex talk with a complete stranger

Here's a question - what makes you approach people in the first place?

Aha got it :D

I thought you meant my profile meant "hit me up I'm available to amuse you with absolutely no effort from you, complete stranger"

It could indeed be construed as you have put it, baby ... however misleadingly :p

I don't have a bullshit detector.
I tend to take people at face-value. But then I'm not here to find playmates. Mostly I just like to read, see other people's opinions on things, look at the pretty pictures and occasionally have something along the lines of a conversation.

I'd like to say that I'm pretty good at judging a person's character, but the evidence to the contrary is difficult to ignore. You'll hear no advice from me on the subject. :D

I have a pretty good bullshit detector. Mostly, it gets filled up with my own bullshit, so I keep the control switch in the off position. It makes Lit a much more enjoyable place.

This --^^. I tend to trust people unless I have reason to believe otherwise. I don't think that's too risky because I'm not putting much of myself on the line (at least, not initially), so it doesn't seem likely that anyone else would have anything to gain from the time and effort of messing me around.

It's difficult to pin down. Simply stated, it's a sense that I "click" with that person in a way that might work for both of us. All of the friends that I've made in real life over the years have arisen that way, so I don't see any need to change my approach here.

Of course, my initial sense of mutual affinity often turns out to be misplaced, but I'd rather try and fail than be left wondering, and my hit rate doesn't seem too bad.

I am confused. You are saying people aren't being genuine on here? Not everyone is who they say they are??
*sobs*

I pretty much approach anyone. Imma not here for the hookup, Imma here for the...wait, why am I here...WTF.

You're here for the squishy hugs! ;)

I am pretty suspicious about anyone I speak to, as people can be whoever they want online.

It takes a while until I am comfortable enough to trust people, and even then, I am always on edge.

I have spoken to people who are clearly being economic with the truth, and spinning a line. Sometimes I pick them up on it, sometimes I will go a long with it, depening on the level of BS.

In the end, if people want to go with it, then if it isn't hurting anyone, its fine. If it seems a blatant lie, and potentially problematic, then I will simply stop talking to them.

I don' t think I' m good at bs detection. Sometimes I think I'm far too trusting. But then, I also don't care that much in this setting, because I have no intention of bringing my lit life into my real life. If someone has woven a fantasy versikn of themselves, so be it.

I'm a terrible BS detector, at least on here. I like to think I'm good at it in real life, but that's probably just wishful thinking.

I'm very trusting by nature, and can be really naive at times. And the fact that my memory is for shit doesn't exactly help. I like to think it's all a part of my charm. ;)

But, it does occasionally get me into situations I don't like being in. I have one or two friends here who try to help me keep my naivete in check. And I am eternally grateful for their insight. :)

I don't take too many things here to be serious so I tend to ignore most of the BS. If it makes them feel better about themselves then they can go play with that BS by themselves in the corner.

not very good at the BS detector. Too trusting at times though I have learned to back off on that a bit.

I think that's a really good idea! A second or third pair of eyes that are also somewhat dispassionate can be very helpful in spotting incongruities.

I've sometimes turned to Lit friends for advice when I'm unsure how to interpret things, and they've always offered extra insight which I would never have reached on my own. Friends are great, and they deserve to be celebrated. *applauds* :)
