I'd spent a bit of time looking at internet porn but nothing hit the spot as much as written erotica. In the end I must have googled 'erotic literature' and found it that way. I enjoy writing, had some ideas, so I thought I'd give it a go. When I ventured to the forum I couldn't make out wtf it was, because unless you turn off sigs, it's unreadable.
So yea, the literature still draws me and lets my imagination run naked across the fields, instead of the constant disappointment with 'yet another squealing chick and pumped up guy fucking in every conceivable position' *yawnsville*

What brought me to lit ...

It was a long way. Many years ago when we had our first PC I (we) sometimes looked at some porn. But, have you seen one, you basically have seen all. I preferred to read stories. But not all are good. In fact a lot are awful, in my opinion.

About five years ago I started to write stories. Sought a site to publish on after a while. Found a german open site, later two members-only sites were most of my stories are. Some friends on those sites talked about Lit. One of them (who doesn't like to put up the same stories everywhere) had some here.

From the german site I came to the german boards and -as the saying goes- the rest is history.

Before Lit, my only sexual outlet was reading erotica, and I mean actual books. It never occurred to me to look for erotica online. I enjoyed supplementing my "reading" time with toys, and one day while innocently shopping online for some new accessories, a link for lit popped up. Naturally I clicked on it, followed the kinky brick road, and here I am. :D

I think that quite a few people found this site. I was reading the stories two years before I found the forum. I would be all over the different threads. I finally found the playground and have been tormenting people here ever since.

I say we need an answer from Mr. Chains on this one too.... Come on - spill it. ;)

Happy Saturday. As we all know Lit is a sexual theme park. Whatever ride you like, you'll find it here. Many find new rides they'd never heard of or ones they always wanted to try but never did. None of us came here by accident, either. So tell us, what were you doing before you came to Lit? What was your outlet?

I have always read erotica, even before I got here when the site was very young. I still read here, on my kindle, and paperback novels too. I didn't get here by accident, I was led here by the mister who said, "Here ya go. Read all you want. It's free and they just keep posting more."

Sunday, Funday! And who doesn't like a little fun? ;) we enjoy how fun Lit is, and to a person have said we would leave if it stopped being fun but would you make an effort to try and keep it fun or would you simply walk?

On a side note, one of my pet peeves is when someone is unhappy and doesn't make an effort to change their situation. I've always believed that every person is responsible for their own happiness. If you're unhappy, do something about, please, if not for yourself, then for everyone else in your life. Because trust me, your unhappiness impacts them as well.

Steps off soapbox.

Carefully eyes the mighty fine soapbox. Gingerly steps to the top. Clears his throat.

I have to say I agree with you when it comes to the question of being happy. At times of course life can be one rough bastard so happiness and sadness are transitory states. However I see no reason to dwell in unhappiness. One of the fortunate graces of my life has been my default condition is mostly happy. It's not that I haven't had my share of tragedy, my share of heartbreak, my long dark days – is more that after an appropriate period of mourning I've gotten up out of the dirt and dusted myself off and got back into the game. I believe that if you find yourself in circumstances that bring you a great unhappiness there are ways out, there are paths you can take to bring you back to happiness, back to the joy of life. Look for them.

Now for the fun part! I've always felt as a member of an online community I have an obligation to try and better the community. To try and contribute something. The quality of an online community is built upon a foundation of 1000 tiny things. As long as the majority of people are making positive community contributions the community will thrive. When that balance point tips the community dies. I don't necessarily think that people have to contribute fun. Personally I think it's pretty hard to force fun. Fun is a spontaneous thing. But I think you can make those positive contributions that creat an environment where fun can thrive.

One of the big challenges all online community face is how to deal with their negative element – whether it is trolling, bickering, drama, hate speech, or just ordinary idiocy. Every community has people who, lacking anything better to do actively seek to tear the community down. I've been in communities where the weight of that eventually causes the whole thing to crumble. Personally, since I view the Internet as one of many entertainment options, I stay until I stop having fun or until the people I love go somewhere else, then I follow.

Hmmm, I hate when I get called out to answer my own topics. No one will believe if I say prior to Lit I was a quiet reserved man just concentrating on the good works I could do for the needy ;)

My outlet pre-lit was an array of porn surfing, looking for erotica, pics, gifs, movies that fit the need if that particular day. Nothing organized, mostly ad-hoc which, in a way, is exactly what Lit is ;)

Sometimes unhappy people can't see their own way out and need a bit of help. Even though I was brought up not to moan and to pull my socks up, I can see that

As for fun places, when you've just landed somewhere - a new playground like Lit - and you're used to forums (fora?) it can be like being in a sweet-shop and endlessly fascinating how people think and react and interact. That's what is fun. If I make friends I might stay longer, if its not fun I will go elsewhere - it's a big wild Internet and there's lots to still explore.

I guess we all ended up here while looking for porn.. Though it does sound I oversimplify..it's how I see it.
And Chained what you said about people not doing anything to be happy or at least make things as good as they can get mirrors my view also.
Scary enough sometimes you sound like my inner voice. Is it the voice of conscious ? You often ask about things I do not want to admit. Good job! :D

I am having deja vu Chainey? ... maybe it was a different thread. The previous discussion acknowledged that we're excluding clinical depression, which is not something people can snap out of nor have control over.
That said, "yes and no". There is also reactive depression: the result of an external influence on our state of mind. So if a friend has just been run over by a bus, then snapping out of it would be quite odd, but in time they will hopefully recover from the shock. So we've got rid of medical conditions and buses, so what you're saying is that you don't like miserable people affecting your state of mind and you wish they'd cheer up because it's affecting you.
Maybe those people are disposed to being unhappy, maybe they have some undiagnosed but food allergy, say a mild gluten intolerance? Maybe they had a bad childhood? Maybe they only feel miserable around you?
I'd say count your blessings when you are surrounded by positive, happy people, try and avoid situations where you're uncomfortable, but don't judge people too harshly when perhaps all you're seeing is the tip of an emotional iceberg? :rose:

Are you serious? You'd be whining because someone going through a tough time is messing with your happiness? It's nice that you are the eternal optimist living in a wonderfully utopian fantasyland but that doesn't work for everyone all the time. People go through some really difficult times and quite often it is nothing they can change. You expect them to pretend everything is glitter and roses just because you don't wanna see it? What a ridiculously selfish and shitty friend you would be.

I've seen some stupid things posted here, but this takes the cake.

Sticks, I only edited your comment due to length, please don't think I am discounting the rest. In my post I was addressing the people that suck life out of anything. You get a promotion, their boss sucks. You win the lottery, they say they've never win anything. You find a loving spouse, the tell you their second marriage sucks. The people that have never found the ability to happy for another. The people that won't accept that you got to where you are by sacrifice and hard work.

The clinically depressed that have sought help, they are doing something about it. Even if their symptoms aren't improving, they're working on it. Those people I will applaud and support to the bitter end.

At least I'd have some cake :D. Just kidding.

As I replied to Sticks, I get rough patches, a bad break, clinically depressed, but don't sit and bitch to me as you watch golf on TV about these guys only being here because of their privileged country club upbringing. Go pick up your clubs and practice, make yourself better, and be amazed by their talent.

You should have said that first, and phrased your question better....cause your original post made you sound like a real dick. I wonder how much of getting called on it has changed what you have to say. But whatevah..

As for people that always bitch and are never happy about anything, I agree.. I just avoid them.

Maybe I should replace "unhappy" with "bitchy & whiny"

I was trying to ignore this topic. I know that in the past, I've crossed the line between being a depressed person and being a major downer for everyone around me. Cowslinger tends not to like my posts because of this. :D

It might surprise everyone, but I am going to defend Chained here. Because there ARE people who are genuinely soul sucking black holes. Psychic vampires, I call them. It's like they are so needy and hungry for human warmth and life, that they will take it away from anyone who crosses into their path.

There is a BIG difference between someone on the edge and someone who is a psychic vampire. I've been so far down that I knew anyone who tried to save me would get taken down with me. That is something I can understand, it's very human. I'm lucky to not be there today.

But a psychic vampire is never in danger of self destruction. They love themselves too much to ever hurt themselves. They just need to punish everyone who feels alive, because they do not.

Technically, what you are having an issue with was my stated pet peeve, not my question. You didn't answer my question, in fact, I don't think anyone has.

But hey, if you think I'm a dick based on one post that I've clarified, I'm not going to bother to try and change your mind.

OhOhOh!! MeMeMe. I'll answer.

I would hope everyone likes a lil fun.

Lit is fun...it 's what you make of it. Sometimes, it isn't as fun. When it isn't, I tend to make my own. If Imma in a NoFunMood...I stay away.

LOL. Thanks Perky, not surprised you went counter culture there and answered the question

*smiles* I am glad this got cleared up between Sticks, CS, Nevyn and you, Chained, otherwise I would have felt compelled to point out not everyone is always empowered enough to be their own happiness' smith. (Yes, I know I have done so now anyway. I am a bit sensitive to this subject.)

Yes, there is a big difference between being unhappy, sad or depressed and being whiney&bitchy; the "Psychic Vampires" as Nevyn calls them, the "Living Black Holes of Life" as I call them.

Those I can't stand and whenever possible I avoid any kind of contact with them.

I love a bit of fun. If Lit turned to non-fun I feel like Paul, one has a certain obligation to keep things fun and running smooth and I would do my best to do so if I felt things were taking a turn too the worse. If I would run out of patience I would take a break.
