LGBTQIA+ Daily Vibe II

Anyone here watching Orange is the New Black? (I finally got around to it.) What're your thoughts?

I watched the first season with mixed feelings of giddy glee and eye-rolling sarcasm. ;) But I enjoyed it well enough and am looking forward to the next season starting soon.

Also, only tangentially related, every time I read your name I get that silly Internet Meme song stuck in my head. (Which the geek in me has to admit she still very much enjoys.)

To clarify, I find the supporting characters far more interesting and sympathetic than the main character. I think it would be a better show without Piper. But then, I think part of the point is that you're supposed to boggle at her now and then. Maybe. I hope.

I still can't get over the fact that Red = Captain Janeway.

^^^ tell me about it - we don't have cable/netflix :( and my lesbian friends keep blogging about it so all I've seen are gifs and YT snippets.

I feel like I'm being sucked into this cat-fight about RuPaul and Drag Race. Happily, I don't get his show either and I really don't know who the fuck he is, but based on what I've read, I already don't like him. There's been a lot written, with a number of well known Trans names wading in, but I found this little YT and picked up on one phrase amidst his quite sweet piece -
"Nothing negative happens if you stop being transphobic"

HA! :D:D:devil:

Oh. My. Gawd. Why didn't I SPOT that?
I, on the other hand, keep seeing Alex Vause as Donna from the That 70's Show.

And yeah, you're right about the eye-rolling thing, Piper reminds me a bit of Ally McBeal. I kind-of-partly identify with her storyline because I date a guy - but meh.

Oh in case nobody dropped it here yet:
While writing for Orange is the New Black I realized I am gay

Aww - that's a lovely piece from Lauren: thanks for posting!
Jeez - we get so loaded up from birth with societal expectations: no wonder people are so fucked up.

Just checked up on Red - Wow! She lost the nasal Janeway voice!

And added a Russian one! I love how she plays that role.

That is a fabulous video. Thank you so much for sharing it!

I continually appreciate how much I've learned about what it is and means to be transgendered just from chatting with you guys here. I really knew nothing about it before, and now I can help reeducate people around me. It's a really good feeling, and I just wanted to make sure I let you guys know that. You've made my life better!

Oh, don't worry. It took me until the very last episode to realise it. I usually skipped the beginning credits, but for some reason I watched them that day and saw the actress' name and thought... "Wait, what??" Then the first scene she was in for that episode, the bells went off. Mind=blown. (I had SUCH a crush on Captain Janeway back in the day. She can order me around any day.)

Totally, though I've been really impressed with her character in this show, too.

And thank you for the link! I'll read that now. :D

I really enjoyed the article, thank you for sharing, Allyourbase!

And no kidding. It's just so ridiculous. So much insecurity leading to so much hate, and with some of the worst, most shallow "justifications" ever.

I do, too!

And I'm all right, thanks. You?

Thank you Diz :rose: just goes to show how talking helps break down barriers and it works both ways you know? <<hugs>> It's also a secret agenda to try and find places to stay when I come to Canada :) :) I've got Vancouver sorted and that's gonna be party town!!
Not forgotten Europe though and the Netherlands is on my wish list too.

Big thanks from me to Laurel and Lady G for changing a wee typo in Personals. It used to include LGB and transgendered but that has now been corrected to transgender. I wasn't that bothered because I see it made into a verb everywhere but I'm well chuffed that Laurel took the time to change it :rose:

I had a lovely overnight stay with friends that was much needed from a R&R POV. We watched Dallas Buyers Club - well worth a watch if you've not seen it yet. Good food, wine and a vomiting dog: you can't have everything huh? :D

Mood: chuffed ( this is a UK word meaning pleased that something turned out well )
Dress: I so need a shower
Music: Turin Brakes I think is what I need

ETA Paris Lees was on BBC Radio Saturday Live today
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b046j1k2
It's a mixed bag of features but Paris is their studio guest, revealing what a badass teen she was  Getting pimped as a underage boy, which was interesting but not that shocking really. We all gotta find our way and she made it :rose:

Hi Simone, welcome to the thread. I have a couple of friends on Tumblr who are Orange devotees so I get all the teasers but none of the real thing... hmm... just like something else I can think of!! :)

I so want to comment, but nothing I can think of is remotely appropriate. ;)

Fun on the Bun ! Chatting with ...

... guys that are totally hetero, and get all discombobulated when they find out they're "flirting" with a Male, Bi. X-dresser ! SURPRISE! :) This just happened to me about 10 mins ago on AFF. We weren't really having "cyber" just kind of flirting. He asked me what I "liked" and I said, read my profile. He came back and said I SHOULD HAVE TOLD him that I was a guy right up front. I told him, YOU started this conversation. He said ok, that's right. I asked him why he was a little upset and he said he's not a Fag! I told him it was ok, Honey, I am, don't panic! :) He asked if he could add me to his friends list! Which brings me to my question, why don't sites like this and AFF and others offer up a one line tag at the top of your chat box detailing, what your prefernces are right then and there? I felt sorry for they guy. But he was adult about it and I added him to my friends list. He's also into amateur astronomy too. Holy Crow! Think I just may have had a FB experience on AFF! Who'd of thunk ! ;)
