Just the Polls

Lots of threads go off into different tangents and end up overlapping with other threads. Add to that the serial thread starters that create 5 or more new threads every day under multiple alts. It makes for a cluttered board.

The OP was very specific about the purpose of this thread in both the subject line and opening post. Sticking to “just the polls” will keep this thread clean and not waste people’s time reading commentary and arguments. We can still post polls in other threads with added commentary and perspectives.

As a polling junkie, I find this thread useful as a quick reference point for brand new polls and polls that survey less common elections or topics of opinion.

Vanderbilt Poll of Tennessee Voters

  • The majority of Tennessee registered voters consider themselves definitely or somewhat pro-choice, including 93 percent of Democrats, 54 percent of Independents and 30 percent of non-MAGA Republicans
  • Differing attitudes between men and women on key state issues could prove influential on public policy in Tennessee and appears to be part of potentially significant national trend
  • IVF and proposed gun control legislation have bipartisan approval
  • Sixty percent of Tennessee voters favor legalizing marijuana for recreational use

Although Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R.-Tenn, polls clearly ahead of her challenger, State Rep. Gloria Johnson, D.-Knoxville, for the upcoming U.S. Senate election (51 percent to 40 percent, respectively), the Vanderbilt Poll shows a significant difference between men and women voters. While men heavily favor the incumbent senator, women prefer Johnson over Blackburn 49 percent to 43 percent.

Almost half of MAGA Republicans are extreme conspiracy nuts:
More than one-third of Tennessee voters (34 percent), including almost half of MAGA Republicans (47 percent), report that they believe the federal government releases chemicals and related substances into the atmosphere to control the weather, evidenced by “chemtrails” in the sky.

More evidence of conspiracy lunacy:
The Vanderbilt Poll indicates that 43 percent of state voters think it is at least somewhat likely that FBI operatives organized and intentionally encouraged the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Biden's approval rating falls to lowest level in nearly two years-Reuters/Ipsos poll

WASHINGTON, May 21 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden's public approval rating this month fell to its lowest level in almost two years, tying the lowest reading of his presidency in a warning sign for his reelection effort, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed.

The four-day poll, which closed on Monday, showed just 36% of Americans approve of Biden's job performance as president, down from 38% in April. It was a return to the lowest approval rating of his presidency, last seen in July 2022. While this month's drop was within the poll's 3 percentage point margin of error, it could bode poorly for Biden as he faces off with Republican Donald Trump in the Nov. 5 presidential election.

Biden, a Democrat, has been largely tied with Trump in national polls asking voters how they will vote. But Trump has had slight leads over Biden in many polls in the states seen as most likely to determine the winner in the U.S. Electoral College.

The poll laid out Biden's weaknesses as well as a few strengths. The state of the economy was seen as the top issue, picked by 23% of respondents as the most important problem facing the country. Some 21% saw political extremism as the top issue and 13% picked immigration.

Reuters, normally in the tank for Democrats, has a hard time puffing up Joe Biden.

Let’s go Brandon!

Biden is polling even in New Hampshire. Polls tend to favor Democrats, although not as heavily as New England normally does.

True, New Hampshire isn’t Taxachusetts. But it has gone Democrat the past five presidential elections in a row. Give voters a few more months of Creepy Joe and they will be ready to end that streak.

Considering the number of MAGAts in various police positions, that is not too far fetched. But to in fact try to overthrow the Government, not just to catch MAGAts.

There WERE a lot of cops, ex cops and military, including active military.

The Cygnal survey of 1,500 likely general election voters, conducted between May 14 and 16, shows that the Georgia Republican Congresswoman had an overall unfavorable rating of 52.5 percent, comprising 42 percent of respondents who were very unfavorable and 10.5 percent who were somewhat unfavorable.

This contrasts with a favorable rating of only 20.7 percent, including 8.5 percent of respondents who said they were very favorable of Greene, and 12.2 percent who said they were somewhat favorable. Another 11.8 percent said they had no opinion and 15 percent said they had never heard of the lawmaker. The survey had a +/-2.53 percent margin of error.

The respondents were 54.1 percent female, 45.9 percent male; 52.5 percent aged 18-54, 47.5 percent aged 55+; 41.8 percent had at least a college degree, while 57.1 percent had no college degree; and 30.1 percent were rural, 49.9 percent suburban and 20 percent urban.

the poll also revealed mike johnson was viewed by respondents as more than twice as popular than greene
The findings show that Republican respondents had a +31 net favorability rating of Johnson, compared to a +15 rating for Greene. Overall, 45.3 percent of Republican respondents had a favorable view of Johnson, compared to 14.3 percent who had an unfavorable opinion. Meanwhile, 19.8 percent had no opinion and 20.6 percent had never heard of him.
it's amusing, though, to me that out of the republican respondents 19.8% had 'no opinion' and a massive 20.6% had 'never heard of him'!

c'mon, voters, at least know who the big names are in your damned party!

I’d be happy to see MTG sent home and replaced with a better GOP congress member but I’m not sure if the poll surveyed voters in her district.

given the criticism of both candidate's ages and ability to perform, this election may ultimately come down to exactly who's running for VP alongside them. Harris is gaining ground in the swing states, where people are starting to trust her more to be able to step into Pres. Biden's boots if necessary. Now if trump would only choose mtg...

(Bloomberg) -- Vice President Kamala Harris is increasingly endearing herself to swing-state voters, a development that if it persists, stands to neutralize Republican attacks around Joe Biden’s age.

Nearly half of swing-state voters, 48%, say they trust Harris to fulfill the duties of the presidency if Biden were no longer able to serve, according to a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll conducted in early May. The reading marks the highest level of confidence since the survey was first conducted in October.

Warming sentiment toward Harris was on display at a recent stop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a key swing state. During an on-stage interview with the vice president, comedian D.L. Hughley unexpectedly apologized.

“I have to say that I’m sorry,” Hughley told Harris. “I had let a media narrative co-opt my perspective, and I think that tends to happen with women and people of color.”

Hughley, who met privately with Harris in November, explained that he was critical of her time as a prosecutor in California, where he grew up and Harris spent her early political career. But, he said, “some of the things that I have subsequently come to learn about you, not only make me proud of you, but make me be an advocate.”
