interesting virus coming thru MSN messenger..

Here is an actual conversation i had with my 14 year old son on MSN


Ben says: HI

Jennifer says: hello there.. how are you?

Ben says:
hey, want me to send my new pic?

Ben says:
i took it yesterday

Ben says:
good

Ben says:
you?

Jennifer says:
yes.. send me the picture..

Ben says:
alright, here ya go

Ben would like to send you the file "PIC1324(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1).exe" (49 Kb). Transfer time is less than 1 minute with a 28.8 modem. Do you want to Accept (Alt+T) or Decline (Alt+D) the invitation?


Transfer of file "PIC1324(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1).exe" from Ben has been accepted. Starting transfer...

You have successfully received C:\My Documents\Messenger Service Received Files\PIC1324(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1).exe from Ben. Before opening this file, you may want to scan it with a virus-scanning program.

McAfee pops up on the screen with a hand with a really ugly bug in it.. and says "this file is infected with such and such virus. do you want to continue, clean or delete?" I ofcourse deleted it..

Conversation continues

Jennifer says: Ben.. that picture you sent me has a virus on it. DO NOT SEND IT OUT TO ANYONE ELSE.. DELETE IT NOW!

Ben says: What pic?

Jennifer says: The one you just sent me.

Ben says: Huh? where? what picture?

I cut and pasted what my messenger said.

Ben says: Mom, I didn't send you a picture. Why would I send you a picture taken yesterday, when I seen you last night? I would have given you a copy last night.

Jennifer says: OMG, i read about this somewhere on the net.. darnn (can't curse, because i was talking to my son) I wonder where I read about that.

Ben says: I have homework. I love you. Bye.

Jennifer says: Ben I love you too. Bye

Ok.. sorry about the loooooooong ass post.. i just wanted people to be warned.. The reciever of the file sees it happening.. and the supposed sender is totally unaware of it.

The "red" parts of this actual conversation where on my messenger and NOT on my sons.

OMG that happened to me and another BB member on msn about a month ago

When you go to scan for it, you might not find it with a virus scanner. It is in the messenger received files and will have to be isolated that way to be deleted.


Best free way to do it for those who don't have a virus scanner.


Go to zdnet.com and sign up to be a free member. Download AVG virus scanner and let it do it for you.

It will get it and remove it.

Ask the other BB'er if you don't believe me. lol

thank god i run Mcafee in the background at all times..

I didn't think anything of it.. after all.. it was my son that was sending it to me.

I know his dads computer doesn't have any virus' on it, i was there last night to work on it. I downloaded and ran a new virus scan for them..

As soon as she and I began the conversation, that message came from her to me and me to her right afterwards.

The other person I had been chatting with for over a half hour gets that message from me as soon as I send a reply back to him and I again got that message from him.

So both computers need to be scanned for this. Anyone they message on msn will have this happen to them and so on until the person removes it from their machine.

The message didn't pop up on his computer. Because I didn't open it. I deleted it before i opened it. It's gone. I just did another scan.. and so did Benjamin. I called him to explain it to him, so I could make sure he understood what I was telling him.

Both my scan and his came up clean.

Gosh wish I had know that GuyJD I have just paid over £35 for my Nortons virus scan cd. ......I use MSN messenger so will pass this on to my 20 + friends on it ......dont like the sound of that virus at all .........Thanks for the warning .......
