Actually, it takes several generations of continual inbreeding amongst first blood before incest starts being harmful biologically.AlienHunter said:And as far as incest taboos go, I think it's ok (biologically) to bang a stepmother or step-"anything". Maybe even first cousins are ok, although I still hold one foot back on that idea ...
Anyways, I've thought of a couple of incest scenarios, but none of them occurs in the modern day:
-As you may or may not know, Ancient Rome allowed for a suprising amount of social mobility for freed slaves. It is also a well known fact that freed slaves make the harshest masters. So, we have a freed slave who's managed to achieve great wealth and comparitive status. He acquires a highly attractive slave-girl for the obvious use, and after using her for such, too his shock, discovers that they share a highly distinctive birthmark. In short, they're related. Further investigation reveals that she is in fact, his daughter (he'd obviously be a fairly mature fellow, it taking quite a bit of time to climb up the social ladder, and the girl would be rather young, only 18).
-The society of Ancient Sparta was built on the backs of their Helot slaves. Almost every aspect of Spartan society was designed to ensure the Helots were kept down. Obviously, sex between Spartans and Helots were NOT well thought of, but of course they happened. So, what happens is this: a Spartan woman has an affair with a Helot, and bears his child. The kid kinda looks like her and is born in a time when he could be passed off as belonging to her husband. If the truth was revealed, she and her lover would be executed, and quite possibly the kid too. At the very least he'd become a Helot himself. Flash forward a few years. The deception's been working pretty well, not even the kid knowing his true parentage. The kid's in his late teens, and like most boys that age participates in the Krypteia (a Spartan ritual in which young men covertly terrorize the Helots, particularly those who stand out in some way). In the intervening years, his biological father has sired a Helot daughter, one of spectacular beauty. Obviously, this can't go unpunished, and so the kid and his comrades gang-rape and then mutilate the girl.
-In one of those countries (perhaps Eygpt?) were incestual politcal marriages are fairly normal, power is seized by a new clan. By tradition, in order to strengthen the bloodline (and hold the throne), the new king must take a wife from among his first blood as his queen. This naturally causes some trouble for the new monarch, as in his previous relatively lowly status such a thing was abominate.
-In a Chaldean city-state, a coup occurs, the King murdered. Of his two children, one, a daughter, is safely a member of the priesthood. The other goes into exile in the court of another king. Years pass, and the former exile manages to retake the city. Meanwhile, his sister has risen to the role of high priestess. Unfortunately, one of the duties of the high priestess is to publically couple with the king at harvest time, and vice versa.
What do you think? Good? Too elaborate? Stupid?
