There are two "facts" I see to this thread and are the ones I dealt with: JBJ has been caught with his pants down on claims of his writing achievements before (by Stella, not by me) and he has slipped in a claim on this thread on a writing credit that is totally unsupportable.

Them's the facts I was dealing with. No one else has come up with any "facts."

You are an intelligent person, especially as it comes to writing or editing. You know your shit. You're helpful to the new people that come to Lit, and you're knowledgeable about the site. You demand excellence from both your stories and others. You're pretty honest about everything (I have no way of knowing about Broadway plays or whatever people try to expose you for, but I have no reason to challenge your integrity). You write well, just outside of my taste in style, but that's a subjective thing. And you call things like you see them.

No one really has a gripe with that stuff. I mean, except for your nemesis. That's his business.

But it's usually not what you say here, it's HOW you say them. When you respond to someone, you talk to them like they are pieces of trash. Or idiots. Or inferior. The way you say shit is pretty ridiculous sometimes. I dunno. Rude? Inconsiderate? Asshole?

Even when you give sound advice or are simply stating your own opinion, you say it in a way that is just abrasive and snotty towards others.

Which is why usually, like here, you've managed to make an argument out of absolutely nothing. All while managing to do to JBJ what LC usually does to you.

As for letting us know of what JBJ's intentions are, we don't need your help with any of that. We can decide for ourselves what JBJ means, and it doesn't take newcomers long to figure out either.

I disagree with this. You are only one poster and are a regular one. Most readers of the forum aren't going to "get it" when they are being bamboozled by a charlatan or by a well-meaning poster who is going way beyond their capabilities in giving advice on writing. People's stories aren't like their political opinions. They don't really have the latitude to just believe anything they want to and to be getting it right (although I generally give writers more latitude in what they do/want to do in writing than most others giving advice here do). Publishing is about creativity within standards--it isn't an "everyone's opinion" is equally valid context. If I do what I can to protect developing writers from being bamboozled by those talking writing and publishing guidance out their asses, you can sue me. I'll continue to be concerned for the writer not shooting themselves in the foot in their writing endeavors.

As far as rude, it's hilarious that you talk to me about being rude on a JBJ thread. And I give respect where it's given to me.

It's also lots of fun that we get posts like yours trying to tell me how to live my life on the forum. I don't tell you how to live yours here. And, yes, I do write it up to actual expertise not given respect on Internet discussion boards because the whole Internet world is built on the false contention that everyone is equal on the Internet. That's a crock of shit. Everyone has equal access to Internet discussions. Being on the Internet doesn't change their actual knowledge on any given subject, though. And trying to get it right in literary creativity is a whole different, more serious, context than arguing whether the Republicans or the Democrats have a better idea on government or somebody is a better actor than somebody else.

This thread is all about JBJ trying to establish writing credentials cheaply and without foundation. I take writing guidance seriously--seriously enough to wade through all the shit thrown at me here. I called him on it and would do so again, regardless of all the silly shit you and recideva are bringing up to play lemming.

And I told recideva and I'll tell you as well: This is a open forum read by lots of people who don't follow the regular players. I'm not posting this just for you or recideva. If you chose to say you "get it," that's fine, but you're been self-centered to assume that I'm just trying to talk to either of you. If I want to talk just to either of you, I'll send a PM.

The "facts" remain. JBJ has been caught lying about his writing credentials before on this forum and he offers no supportable proof that he has the writing credential he claims he has here. And he's trying to establish himself as a writing guru here.

If you have other "facts" to help the general reader assess JBJ and this thread intent, by all means trot them out. Beyond that, you can believe about me whatever you want. I am a publishing professional and I will continue to give here what I think is the most helpful writing and publishing advice--and I don't care if you want to take umbrage at the thought that this means you or anyone else here isn't Internet "all people are equal in knowledge" claptrap equal.

And then the readers are free to choose whatever "reality" they want to and to live with their own decisions in their writing and publishing efforts.

However, how will they ever get to know him from Adam if there's a human wall of invective that are unreasonably attacking him so that he looks like the sane person in the room? You're forcing people to defend him out of fairness when they might be inclined to argue with him if he weren't already receiving so much trolling.

I don't have to agree with him to think that if you want a moral authority, you behave morally. Which includes not incessantly trolling someone or trying to tell people what to think about him without giving them an actual chance to get close enough to make their own examination.

I don't see a fair characterization of him, I see an attempt to judgmentally sequester him from the populace like some sort of source of infection.

You can't save people from being dumb, and advice really shouldn't be given until asked. It's presumptuous and intrusive and not something that someone with actual manners does while feeling they're on the right of it.
