Hurricane Check In Thread

I am ok!!!

I am outside of Tyler in Dogwood City at the most stupid "hotel" ever. I am trying to line up some possible lit members that may be willing to board me and my "family" for a few days if the asshole hotel owner raises the rates on us, or makes us leave because of the "fishing tournament" that is happening this weekend.

If you are not a psycho and do not live south of Tyler, Texas, and you like cats and dogs and bums, please pm me. I may not be able to check in daily because the "hotel" doesn't have phones in the rooms (wtf???) and I cannot get online when I want to. Thanks.

Come to Vegas!

Good to see more are checking in. Looks like I'm going to have to drive in to work. They're predicting it's going to be the hottest day of the year and Metro has limited service. Instead of every 10-15 min, they're only going to run at the top of the hour. I'm worried about the return trip. I really don't think I want to chance waiting for hours on end to get a bus back home.

On the good side, there are reports of more gas stations opening up. This should be an interesting day.

Here's what METRO has to say this morning:

METRO RESUMES BUS AND RAIL SERVICE ON MONDAY--
SERVICE TO RUN ON SUNDAY SCHEDULE TO TRANSPORT ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL FOR RECOVERY EFFORT

Some Park and Ride service available

All METRO employees asked to report on Monday
METRO is resuming additional bus service on Monday (Sept. 26th) to support essential personnel needing transportation to assist the Hurricane Rita recovery effort.

An additional 34 bus routes will be in service on Monday. These are in addition to the 12 priority routes that reopened on Sunday. A list of all 46 routes is included below.

METRORail service also will resume on Monday. Frequency of rail service will be according to the Sunday schedule.

The HOV lanes on I-10, 290, I-45 North, 59 Eastex and 59 Southwest freeways will remain open 24 hours per day for inbound traffic. The HOV lane on the Gulf freeway (I-45 South) will remain open for outbound traffic until normal operations resume.

In addition, reduced Park and Ride service will be available. Park and Ride buses will depart at the top of each hour during peak morning and afternoon periods only from the following lots. There will be no midday service (9am - 3pm) or service after 7pm.

I just received word from TxCowboy that he's safe, but with limited internet access. He'll try to post later on.

I'm here (never left actually) - my house in Houston and the beach house made it through just fine. I was hoping the beach house would get blown away so I could get my FEMA card and a new house :D

oh darn.

Thanks for remembering me in your list - even though I have been very absent from here.

Back and Forth (again)

Was involved in some Katrina relief efforts in Houston (people from N.O. who were living in motels in Houston) when Rita came along. The people I was with evacuated and I stayed on with a friend. Tried to go up to Austin but, between the traffic issues and bad timing, I stayed in Houston for Rita. One broken window where I was and that was about it. Now back in Austin regrouping with people. I'll be going back to Houston later this week.

Not much happened here!

I saw all the backups and was glad we decided to stay put. This place and the roads that don't connect, the need for people from Galveston to go North before they can go West.....

Just some wind and a bunch of bottled water it will take us weeks to drink! The only outage we had was the DSL.

ON the other hand a 20-something drug rep that visits my wife's office asked her to spend the weekend with him in his apartment downtown.

She told him to come here it was safer.

I told her it wasn't safety he was worried about but her 40 Ds.

Disappointing Rita

I am alive; and bone-dry, though not in the manner which I am accustomed. I was saddened after buying a case of bottled water and some MRE's that the Hurricane became a tropical storm. But I am glad that I have time to repair the motor for my wind-shield wipers.

Thank you for all the smiles & well-wishes for us in Texas!

Like the saying goes: "Someone in Texas loves you... "

:)

Thanks again!

i can't believe Houston has provided some of the worse posters ever. except for me and D.T...and maybe BnB. Karen Kraft, what where you doing in H-Town, aren't you from L.A?

p.s i think i'm getting fired because i took a long evacution break.
:D what alot of boosheet.

My family and I evacuated to my cousin's house in San Antonio. It took us 16 hours to get there......woooo. I am glad it is over. I know some you may have seen the scenes of HWY 146 on the news, well that road runs right behind our house. We live really close to Kemah and were VERY lucky that there was not even a scratch on our home.

Laurel - Thank you for being concerned enough to "sticky" this thread. it is greatly appreciated. :)

I'm fine, back in Houston now. Spent the weekend in a hotel in Amarillo, it was a nice 4 day vacation ;)

Two more ducklings return to the fold! Yippppeee

Mell, how did your little precious one fare through the ordeal?

I got back to Houston yesterday. It seemed strange to fly on a flight that was not even full although every seat had been booked.

My office went back onliine yesterday, so I was there last night.

It enjoyed the visit with my family in Ft. Worth, but as Dorothy said, "There's no place like home."

I stayed close to home, over at my brothers place, just outside of houston. It missed us completely. Got lucky and all is well. Thank you for the thread and thinking of everyone affected by Rita.

Wish everyone lots of luck if you were affected by Rita and hope all is well.
