Yes, yes it was!

I'm committed to Rita clean up that still isn't complete. Damn tree.

Guess who called me today??????

russell!!!! whooohoooo!

I knew he'd been evacuated. Said it took them 9 hours to get to the road-behind-my-house's exit. Twenty-One hours (21 hrs) to get to relatives up near Waco -- said it was gruelling and he nearly fell asleep driving the last few miles.

I told him he should have just pulled over and stayed at our house. "Yeah, and just how would I explain y'all to the family????" "Their light was on?" Nah, guess that wouldn't have worked. Oh well.

He heard that the Beaumont golf course lost 300 trees and was pretty much wiped out. What a shame. I explained the wonders of text messaging and told him he needs to practice.

He said to tell everyone hello.

Hello everyone, I have not had time to read through this thread, but I will as soon as I can. Just now got power for a few hours, and it will be turned off again soon. Thanks for everyones concern and caring. I am north of Houston and we only got some very high winds and thank goodness for no damage to our home. But many trees are down around us.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone that has been affected through both of these terrible storms.I know that the Lord was looking out for me, and that I and my family in Conroe were among the lucky ones. Being without power is the least of trouble compared to what others are going through.

Update on me:

I have evacuated from the entire state of Texas. I am now in Lafayette, LA, where I have unlimited internet access!!!! Still no word on when I can go back home, but I have heard several reports that my home has very minimal damage and my car is ok. Thanks to everyone who showed concern for us hurricane victims/evacuees, it means a lot to know people do care.

You had us worried. Stay safe (and cool) and let us know when you get back home.

I'm home finally.. made the rdrive in from Dallas this evening.. ran 70+ all the way.. Only thing here is tons of limbs in teh yard so word work is in order.. grass has to be mowed also..

After listening to people and their stories I am still glad I stayed put. We still have people straggling in at work.

Made the mistake of going to the grocery store last night. The place still looked like it had been plundered. No milk, though I got 1/2 and 1/2 for coffee. My dad and ex have been affected by the rolling blackouts. I told my step-mom "They're only supposed to last an hour, right?" She said, "They lied! The last one lasted 10-1/2 hours."

Oh! I saw something strange last night. A pickup truck with one of those shell/covers over the back had a 6" wide tree limb sticking straight out of the middle, about 4 feet up. Obviously the tree had crashed into the truck camper thing. The people stuck an American flag into the top of the tree and drove around like that. The scene came across as a defiant "FU" to the hurricane, and made me smile to see it.

Once I got back on Sunday, I went to Wal-mart since it was the only place open and it looked like a mess. Not much to choose from. It will still be awhile until everything returns to normal. But it could have been worse.

I'm FINALLY home! Got home yesterday. I left here last Wed night at 10:00- got to Beaumont at 4:00 in the morning! We slept for about 2 hours, then back on the road for 24 HOURS to Shreveport. It was absolutely miserable. There was nowhere to stop for gas, food or to pee! But everything is ok here. I'm going back to Beaumont tomorrow to pick up my kitty. The person I was staying with didn't want cats in her house. So, I left him at my bf's brother's house in Beaumont. It's been killing me not knowing how he's doing. He's been there all alone with no power. Sigh.

Awwwwww....hope your pumpkin is okay!

Glad to hear you finally made it back!

Barely got enough rain to water my lawn here in Katy. But we are all safe none the less. Thanks for caring and asking. Hope everyone else faired safe also.

We didnt even getthat much rain here.. not that my lawn needed watering.. Need a brush hog to cut it now.. did have tons of limbs down.. least now I won't have to do very much pruning..

Do you recognize any of these? A little hurricane humor...

You know you live on the Gulf Coast when ...

You have FEMA's number on your speed dialer.

You have more than 300 C and D batteries in your kitchen drawer.

Your pantry contains more than 20 cans of Spaghetti Os.

You are thinking of repainting your house to match the plywood covering your windows.

When describing your house to a prospective buyer, you say it has three bedrooms, two baths and one safe hallway.

Your SSN isn't a secret, it's written in Sharpie on your arms.

You are on a first-name basis with the cashier at Home Depot.

Gasoline is a rare commodity worth waiting in line for hours just to get 10 gallons.

You are delighted to be able to pay $3 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

The road leading to your house has been declared a No-Wake Zone.

You decide that your patio furniture looks better on the bottom of the pool.

You own more than three large coolers.

You can wish that other people get hit by a hurricane and not feel the least bit guilty about it.

You rationalize helping a friend board up by thinking "It'll only take gallon of gas to get there and back"

You have 2-liter coke bottles and milk jugs filled with water in your freezer

Three months ago you couldn't hang a shower curtain; today you can assemble a portable generator by candlelight.

You catch a 13-pound redfish. In your driveway.

You can recite from memory whole portions of your homeowner's insurance policy.

You consider a "vacation" to stunning Tupelo, Mississippi.

At cocktail parties, women are attracted to the guy with the biggest chainsaw.

You have had tuna fish more than 5 days in a row.

There is a roll of tar paper in your garage.

You can rattle off the names of three or more meteorologists who work at the Weather Channel.

Someone comes to your door to tell you they found your roof.

Ice is a valid topic of conversation.

Your "drive-thru" meal consists of MRE's and bottled water.

Relocating to South Dakota does not seem like such a crazy idea.

You spend more time on your roof then in your living room.

You've been laughed at over the phone by a roofer, fence builder or a tree worker.

A battery powered TV is considered a home entertainment center.

Your child's first words are "hunker down"

Having a tree in your living room does not necessarily mean it's Christmas.

Toilet Paper is worth more than gold coins

You know the difference between the "good side" of a storm and the "bad side."

Your kids start school in August and finish in July.

You go to work early and stay late just to enjoy the air conditioning

Ya Know,

Those are funny and a whole lot more of them true than I would like them to be.

My favorite was the company walking around with xeroxed copies of the FEMA pamphlet about preparing a hurricane kit Wednesday. uhh...the batteries are already gone boss.

Or the 'Mike, you're a scoutmaster! what do we do first!'

lol

Told them to get cash and leave that evening. Some did. Others spent the night on 45

Thank you!

I got my Pumpkin back last night and he's doing ok. He's lost quite a bit of weight, but he needed to anyway! I'm going to take him to the vet today just to make sure he's alright. It was only a week and it looks and feels like he's lost about 5 lbs. That can't be healthy.

I'm Back

Wheww..what an experience. I was able to get on one of the last flights out of Houston before the storm hit. I count myself and city lucky mother nature's steering currents led this storm to the east at the same time I am saddeded at the destruction and misery left behind.
I went to the store today and it seems most stores are playing catch up as most residents are restocking the household..
Thanks for the sticky laurel and someplace thanks for your well wishes.
I hope as these cold fronts push through that the hurricane season will be over for most of the country.
You may now return to your regular programming.
