How Many Alts Do You Need?

I might add that, taking an objective view of the few stories I've read of JBJ's, he shouldn't expect accolades at Literotica based solely on the writing. He writes well, but doesn't punctuate well. The kicker, though, is that his stories aren't erotic--they aren't anything that a reader would normally come to an erotica Web site to read. They are about the underbelly of society and are raw and gritty and in your face. I couldn't see them as turning anyone on, and that's what a preponderance of readers come to Literotica to receive, I think. An author who writes those kinds of stories shouldn't expect hot ratings on an erotica site no matter how good the story is. He's simply trying to force a round peg into a square hole with each story. This shouldn't change what he writes; but it should prompt him to be more realistic in what he expects as a response to the stories--even if he had started posting stories from a clean reputation slate, which he didn't.

I don't think it's right to bomb anyone for any reason. That's politics at its best. Voting someone low because you don't like them is as wrong as it gets, simply because you aren't voting on the story for its own merits. That's what voting is for. Its the answer to "how good is the story?" Whether or not you like the author or poster or whatever should not be reflected in the story. You're voting on the story, not the person.

Plenty of us disagree and argue all the time. I like to view it as "debating". If I disagree with someone, I never take it all personally. We can still respect one another even if we have different views or beliefs. We shouldn't have to sink to hating each other and holding grudges because "he don't like gays" or "he doesn't agree with this writing style."

Children do this. Not adults. I've had several disagreements with posters on this forum, but that doesn't mean I keep some personal grudge against them. It just seems that if the world would quit picking black and white sides against each other, we'd all benefit from it.

Your personal opinions will never change my score for your story.

That's fine. But sort of a "so what" in this case. This isn't a question of what "should be." JBJ lost out on that being a legitimate part of the discussion by his own posting behavior. This is a discussion of reality. The reality is that JBJ's stories are going to be bombed in natural retaliation when he posts under the JBJ name. If he wants a fair reading/rating of them, he needs to post under an alt (taking the discussion back to his original question--he has every reason to run an alt account at Literotica). He claims he already does that. So he's just spinning wheels with his whining on what happens to him in his JBJ story account--complaining about ratings and comments being an nontopic in his case, anyway, since he has those turned off, I believe.

Hmm. I guess so. If you stomp a lot of toes, I guess you shouldn't be surprised when people react in hateful ways.

And I have to say, pilot has a point about the voting and comments being turned off. The few stories I read of JBJ's a while back were like this.

As far as the boards being the source of one bombs, this seems to make sense, but how do you guys really know who's doing what? Do you get in a big disagreement and say "I bet that mutha fucker is bombing my story! Ive got a low score! Bet it's him/her!" Or do you actually let each other know you just took a dump on one another's story?

Yes, but it doesn't justify feeling sorry for him when he whines about his scores under the JBJ name--especially when he's opened up a thread that shows why he is better posting stories under an alt--at least now when he's finally established that he does write by posting some stories under the JBJ name. For years he told people they wrote shit and that they should listen to him on how they should write--citing writers he's read--without demonstrating he could do it himself. Now he's done that--shown that he can write well enough the type of story he writes--so any further usefulness for him to post under the JBJ name is gone, unless he wants to accept reality and just not whine about the retaliation he's brought on himself.

I'm not speaking without experience on this. I choose to be myself on the forum and get attacked on my stories for it too. I'm not going to pretend I don't recognize the cause and effect, though. When I post about ratings of the stories under my sr71plt name, it's in response to a single asshole poster who uses my ratings to denigrate my writing here on the forum.

I also have alts I write under to escape what's going to happen to my sr71plt account stories (which is just enough to keep most of the stories under hot--three quarters of my stories were hot before I started posting to the forum. I accept they aren't going to be that now as a result of trying to post no nonsense on the forum). I've found that my non-GM stories do much, much better under alts than under the sr7plt name but that my alt GM stories don't do as well. So, I accept that I have a fan base for GM under sr71plt that makes enduring my personal trolls worthwhile. Of course I don't post what I think are my better GM stories under alts anyway, which may have an effect on their scores--although I find my readers' tastes in what I write are necessarily matched by my view of what is better).

The bottom line is that you've got to be real about what happens to your stories here depending on how you want to play your life on the forum. JBJ is just reaping what he himself has sown--and, as I noted, he's not posting stories--or, in his case, mostly vignettes--that have great erotica reader potential anyway.
