How do you like your erotic stories? On a scale of 1-10, where 1 is light and "clean," and 10 is as raunchy and dirty as it gets, where do your erotic story tastes lie? Do you have clear limits on how far you'll go in one direction or another, either as a reader or an author?

On a scale of 1-10, I'd say my tastes range from around 3-9. I generally like it at least a little kinky and dirty, but I can enjoy a lighter, more romantic, less sexual erotic story if it's well done. I can enjoy it very dirty, too, but sometimes balk when it gets so crazy I feel like I'm not reading about plausible human beings.

I love stories that spread wide open and share the range. I like them to get well over 7 at some point - and I equally enjoy those that dive in around 8 and stay above that level the whole time, and those that meander around 1-3 for a long time before getting to the hot stuff. What brought me to this conversation was enjoying Xarth's fairy story Analella, which kind of bucks this scale.

That's because it is about some seriously wild butt stuff, but a lot of the tone is well below 5 in raunchiness. Even though the content is beyond "polite company," the tone is light, playful and romantic. The particular delight of this story is to treat deep anal pleasure as completely normal, something that fits right into a cutesy fairy tale. I love that! I salute Xarth for making it normal and plausible for dozens of nubile young things to dance around with bare butts in front of a crowd of hundreds, squabbling over who gets to go next in sitting on a massive anal dildo. It's hilarious and it brings the joy of sex and desire from secrecy into the public arena.

On the other hand, similar topic but much more hard core from start to finish: AlexBarton2's deep-in-the-butt story Welcome to the Family which celebrates anal sex in enormously raunchy and graphic detail that I enjoyed just as much as Xarth's romp. (Leaving aside for the moment the incest dimension that comes in later to the Barton story.)

My point is that both stories meet aspects of my wish to bring out the pure joy in all kinds of hot, kinky sex with a minimum of shame.

As a reader I'm about 1.5 on kink but 11 on dirty.

As a writer, I'm about 2 on kink and 3 on dirty. I'm trying to write porn and I keep getting distracted by my damn stories.

Depends, but if I'm reading a story on Lit, there's a very definite reason I'm reading it. I want an eventual, 8-10 level payoff, though I'm very happy if the rest of the story simmers down around 5.

Your stories do well at that, IMO. There is a lot of non-sexual action, but the sex gets quite nice and dirty.
