nope, that's not 'til later...right now it's a spitting image of the first guitar that i ever owned. a friend of mine has a barbecue rest. here in town and he had it hanging on the wall as decoration and when i told him it was just like my first one he gave it to me. i'm trading him some old iron ice tongs to hang on the wall in it's place.

what's it worth? absolutely nothing. i can't date it but it's just like the silvertone archtop that i bought brand new from sears by-god roebuck in 1960 or '61. the strings are so high off the fret board that it's only good for slide guitar but that's cool.

this makes the third silvertone in my collection now.

I am only slightly jealous. I am playing my rig. New amp is the tone I have always been looking for. Plus nothing is broken in so it gets better. Now if I can get this other one fixed in the next couple of weeks...

lay that silvertone on your lap and bottleneck it hell:D

yeah, that'd still be cool if you can get the other one up and running without too much expense.

i'm anxious to hear what phoenix sounds like with the new rig though i can't imagine how much better it could sound than on the old one.

Then you are gonna be WAY shocked when you hear it!!!!
The other amp sounds horrible compared to this one. Even if it was in perfect order it would be relegated to being a door stop. Yes, I know it sounded good. But now...
The only thing it did better was TOTAL clean, this amp won't do that past "3" on the volume.
Imagine Phoenix played through a vintage Fender Blackface amp. The natural all tube distortion...

well, i know it sounds great and someday we'll figure out how to do another gig together.

that's just what i'm doing eagleyez...i don't play it lap style though. my favorite slide guitar is a little 3/4 size silvertone flat top that a student gave me. it sounded real funky anyway and without a truss rod it was unplayable as anything but a slide. anyway, i rigged up a beat up old single coil in the sound hole and a volume and tone knob. a buddy of mine hooked it up to an old, old epiphone tube amp at a gig the other night and turned the place out. made you feel like you were sittin' on the front porch with freddie king shellin' peas and drinkin' moonshine.

Think "Freddie King" as far as this new tone I have. I am doing an open mic tonite as a matter of fact.
BTW I have some used pick-ups that are quite nice. A Hotrails bridge for the Strat, and a Seth Lover humbucker for the bridge also. Should you run across anyone that wants them.

i'll make a note of the pickups. you never know when someone might wander in looking for one of them. were they in your strat? if so what'd you replace them with?

well knock 'em dead at the open mic.

The Hotrails was in my Strat. But it is more of a metal type pick-up.
The Seth I never used. It is a PAF type pup. Both are very nice. In perfect working order. Just were not what I needed at the time.

i'll bet a dollar and a half that's not what you were thinkin' when you opened the thread though.:D

Don't know if you folks are into Crowded House or not, but on their album 'Wood Face' Neil Finn used nothing but old catalog guitars, Silvertones, Teisco Del Rays, Harmony's, etc.

There's also an acoustic Guitarist by the name of Ed Gerhard doing the same thing on his new album (not sure if it's finished yet), but supposedly he's playing them as is, no adjustments whatsoever. Sounds like a cool idea.

hey, thanks for the heads up alvin. (or is it brick?) i'll have to check that out. i love the old one's. i've got a '72 silvertone thin hollow body with triple pickups and a bigsby that's one of the smoothest jazz type guitars i've ever played. my '72 yamaha is one of the richest sounding accoustics i've ever heard no matter what they cost.

is it just men that get into all the technical stuff....amps, guitar types, those boxes that...well, those wahwah things...
the guys are always talking to me about that stuff...i just nod and act like i understand
is it wrong to just want to be able to play without having to know all that technical stuff?
is it wrong to just want a bass that looks good?
is it wrong to not even care what kind it is?...or know...lol

I want to sound good. I have found that for me, knowledge of what makes the tones I like helps tremendously. I don't care what my gear looks like, just how it plays and sounds.

The bottom line to me is if you have chops and tone then you are doing well.
Your approach is fine if it works for you. How long have you been playing if I may ask?

no ma'am it's not. in fact, even though i make electrics i don't play them much. i'm a rhythm player and a little reverb is about all i ever add when i'm giggin'. it's your lead players like blues boy that get chubbies when they're talking about all that other stuff.

me, i'm a much more sensitive, caring sorta guy that's really into pure tone and soft strumming and...ok, i ran out of bs but i had you going for a second didn't i?:D

time to close up the store and head for the house. see you kiddies later.

have fun tonight bb.

i'm partially deaf to low tones, lol, half the time i can't even hear what i'm playing (certain notes..the lowest)

I bet as you continue playing you will decide that you want a certain sound, you will need to know how to achieve that...
